Quotables: “Don’t Kill the Superstar.”

“It’s really devastating and I think it’s a lesson to the world – don’t kill the superstar. Take care of her. Take care of her soul. I loved her and I just remember feeling like I wasn’t alone because she was so different and she was so special.”

That’d be Lady Gaga on the death of Amy Winehouse.

While I totally dig the “take care of your brethren” thing that she’s trying to get across here, she also sort of makes it seem like the general public is responsible for other people’s actions as a whole, and you just know that can’t be right. Plus, the entire putting the “superstar” on a pedestal thing? Come on. “Superstars” are just like everyone else – they’ve just had a different set of circumstances or opportunities presented to them. Let’s maybe stop doing that and the same “superstars” will stop feigning invincibility.

RIP Amy Winehouse. I miss you, girl.

And Gaga? Just … I don’t even know anymore.

  • Honestly – what I got out of this, was yet another self-advertisement. GaGa does nothing but talk about herself.

  • Gaga loves her fans and being famous and she’s got a gift for it.

Maybe becoming famous brought up all sorts of issues for Amy. And maybe just maybe she didn’t actually like being famous (a la Kurt Cobain) or really have to stomach for it.

Maybe she hated touring. I was in a band and all I wanted to do was play in my home town…

Maybe she felt obliged to go grind herself up in the fame machine. Maybe she was pressured.

  • But yes, Gaga is being pretty abstract here. What kind of soul taking care of is she talking about?

Mass group prayer meets to send positive energy to Amy?

    Elaborate Gaga!

  • Anyone who loves Amy should watch Lady Sings the Blues with Diana Ross; it’s awesome… Watch it in memory of her…

  • Amy Winehouse was not “just live everybody else”. Once you step into that glare of the celebrity life you are no longer like everyone else. I’m not sure how young you are, Sarah, but we all have to go through life trials, life ain’t easy. And it’s all the more harder when you have unlimited resources, lack of support and vultures everywhere you turn.

It’s not as simple as you or Gaga try to make it seem. Btw, that’s jus a snippette from Gaga anyways; I’m sure if you actually sat down with her in a full conversation she’s elaborate as opposed to what this is…a snippette, a comment.
