Or, as I fondly remember him, the monk from 1996′s William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, a movie that, like, defined my teenage years.  And I’m not going to lie – a little bit of brief sadness sort of took my breath away when I heard the news.

Though Postlethwaite has a long, long repertoire of acting in television, theater, and movies such as the aforementioned Romeo + Juliet, and which recently included The Town, Inception, and Clash of the Titans, he also appeared in other major roles in films such as The Usual Suspects, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and The Constant Gardener. Even Steven Spielberg once referred to the man as the ‘greatest actor in the world,’ and I mean, it doesn’t get much better than that. You don’t need to win any awards whatsoever if Spielberg’s touting your on-screen talents for directors and producers to hear ’round the world.

Postlethwaite passed away earlier this weekend at a hospital in England, where it was said that he battled a lengthy bout with cancer that, obviously, in the end, won.

May your family be blessed with fond memories of your presence, and may you rest in peace, Pete.

In a completely surprising move of ‘not surprising,’ estranged husband of Courteney Cox-Arquette has packed his bagging, sagging ass up and dragged it to rehab, where it’s said that he’ll spend time for alcohol abuse and, according to his family, ‘other issues.’

A rep for Courteney released a statement claiming that she’s happy that David decided to give up the ghost and go for treatment:

“I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life. I love and support him.”

Great.  I think Courteney’s got something here:  I, too, think it’s great that little Davey’s gone and manned up to his inadequacies, but the papers and tabloids are talking about this story like it’s all surprising or something. The man hasn’t been sober in public since his marriage split months ago.  If that isn’t an indication of something bigger and worse than, you know, a mere ‘poor me’ bender, what is?

David definitely needs all the help he can get, and who knows, maybe – just maybe – those two crazy kids can work their marital problems out from scratch. I believe Courteney that a lot of their issues stemmed from problems with David’s general maturity level, but I also think that full-blown, rehab-caliber alcoholism isn’t diagnosed after just a few weeks of drinking.  It’s apparent that his issue has been a common theme in their marriage, and if it wasn’t worth working out for his marriage, he should at least try to take himself seriously and fix it for himself – and his kids. He’s got a couple of them, you know, in case he forgot in his most recent gin and juice-induced haze.

You know, “Monster,” the one with Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, and Bon Iver?  I wouldn’t want you to be the clueless one when all your co-workers are talking about the thematic elements of the video, the effects of Kanye’s hubris, and his sweet diamond teeth tomorrow morning.

The only artist in this big musical orgy I listen to regularly is Bon Iver, and even then it’s just one song, but I can’t stop listening to this damn song.  I caught this video right before I went out on Friday afternoon, and you best believe I was telling all the cheap champagne bottles at the Kroger that “everybody knows I’m a motherfuckin’ monster” under my breath while browsing.

You can go ahead and start the scholarly analysis of the themes in the video in the comments (I’m going to get started on my essay on Kanye’s role as the tragic hero with strong references to both Aristotle and Joseph Campbell), but first I just wanted to point out that Kanye solidly rhymes the word “esophagus.”  If anyone was doubting his skills, I’d go ahead and stop that talk right now.

A photo of Lindsay Lohan

“Today is the first day of the rest of my life “The future depends on what we do in the present.” -Mahatma Gandhi… One step at a time….”

- Lindsay Lohan, tweeting wise words of Gandhi’s.

If you just take a look at what we’ve said about Lindsay, it’s clear that we wish nothing but the best for that lovable hot mess.  That being said, I think Lindsay’s continued sobriety in 2011 is a little questionable. What about you?

How do you feel about Lindsay Lohan?

A photo of Michael and Lindsay Lohan

Remember that one time that Michael Lohan wrote that touching, heartfelt ballad for Lindsay?  Well, that was just the start of his musical declarations of eternal love for his daughter, because another one’s coming.

The song’s called “My Rose” (I know, did your heart just skip a beat too?), and here’s how we know it’s going to be a hit: Michael commissioned Delious Kennedy to write and perform the song.  What’s that?  You don’t know who Delious Kennedy is?  Oh, he’s just a member of the Grammy Award-winning band, All-4-One.  Delious says that “My Rose” is definitely a club song, and he even gave TMZ a snippet of lyrics from the chorus:  “The girl is like a rose garden. She falls back, springs forth and grows stronger with thorns.”  As if your hearts aren’t already warm enough, here’s what Michael himself had to say about the song:

“[It's about a] talented and beautiful young lady who has grown in our hearts, she is badgered by paparazzi, cut down by the media … She will wilt, but when she falls, I will always be there to pick her up and put her pedals back on.”

I’m not sure if the typo about the rose “pedals” was TMZ’s or Michael’s, but I am sure about one thing – this is going to be Michael Lohan’s year.  With such an obviously solid hit song as this, how could it not be?
