Poor Whitney can’t get a break. The Internet has been all over her about her weight gain, though it looks to me that her body’s just getting used to not being addicted to crack. I think she looks way better in the above photo than when she was all skin and bones and drugs. But according to the National Enquirer (so reputable, I know), Whitney’s now at around 175 lbs., and there’s “no sign of slowing down.”
On top of the talk of her weight, there’s also that whole issue of Whitney not being as good as she used to be. At a recent show in Copenhagen, several fans left the concert because she was just not doing well, and local newspapers ripped her to shreds for her performance. One critic wrote
She looked and sounded like a person who doesn’t have many years left to live. At the end of the show she looked like she was ready to explode.
Pretty harsh, but by comparing Whitney’s recent performances to what she used to be, it’s easy to see how people can be so disappointed in her. I mean, I still cry every single time at The Bodyguard and Prince of Egypt, but whatever she’s doing now just makes me feel uncomfortable and kind of sad. Of course you have to give her props for overcoming her addictions and getting back on that horse, but at what point do you just admit that you irreparably fucked up your talent and throw in the towel?
