Christina Aguilera addresses the constant whispers that she’s trying to emulate Lady Gaga in music and appearance.
Akon recently states that there’s nothing new about the singer’s attempt to copy Gaga’s music and names her upcoming album, Bionic a “junior” attempt at trying to be like the Lady herself.
When Akon brought his copycat accusations to the table earlier this month, Christina retorted by saying she wasn’t going to … retort:
“It just comes with the territory. That, in particular, is not even worth wasting the breath to comment on. I’ve been around for over a decade and I think my work speaks for itself … I probably would have engaged, and been a little upset. It’s not even worth the time anymore, there’s a bigger picture out there. There’s too much good to be pent up with someone else’s negativity.”
So what do you guys think? Is she a little, let’s say, “similar” to Gaga with her latest album or has Aguilera just been ’round long enough to know that even when cut-throat innovation fades, talent and reinvention rule?
She knows that “talent and reinvention rule”. Girlfriend’s got talent for miles – no one can tarnish that.

You write as though GaGa is original, which is a total joke. Talk about your derivative talents. GaGa is nothing more than an amalgamation of every female popstar from Cher to now. So I side with Aguilera. If GaGa is still kicking it and still stealing from everyone in ten years, then I’ll consider her a real talent.
AGREED!!! And while I can respect both for their “artistry” GaGa cannot touch Christina and her vocals!
It’s all about reinvention. Madonna does it all the time. It’s how you stay in the music business. I also don’t think she is copying GaGa. All these pop artists sound the same and Christina has always been a stand out because of her talent. After all she has been around longer than GaGa. What I think is funny is Grace Jones saying GaGa is copying her with her. I’m sorry but I really don’t like GaGa anyway. If I wanted crazy antics I’ll go back to the 80s.
An amazing voice AND she’s articulate…who knew? People wish they could sing/imitate Miss Christina. She has become wise in her ‘old’ age. I’m liking her more and more. I like Gaga, but I’d like her more if just once, she’d wear a pair of jeans. Now THAT would be an original outfit for her.
oh come on. as much as i love gaga she is just a rip off of roisin murphy. it sucks, but there are very few genuinely original people anymore in hollywood.

Gaga on the other hand, even the mere stage name irritates me, every time I hear her on the radio I can swear I’ve already heard that in the 80’s early 90’s.
Gaga is a gimmicky rip off.
Besides, her lyrics are dreck – the acoustic version of ‘Poker Face’ made me burst into uncontrollable laughter.
It’s funny how the first time we (the missus and I) heard “Just Dance” we thought it was a weak new song from Christina, and then low and behold it’s a completely different person.
Pop music is for the untalented, non-musical folk in the world. No redeeming value at all.

I remember thinking that Lady Gaga was Christina too, a little over a year and a half ago. They had the whole blunt blonde bangs going on. But as time has passed, Gaga has really come into her own voice- sometimes raspy and rough, sometimes higher and more feminine. I like both of them in very different ways, but I hope that I will like Gaga for her longevity too, years from now.
That people think Christina is copying Lady Gaga is amazing to me…if anything it should be the other way around. And does anyone remember Lady Gaga’s hair bow? And that Allison from Project Runway a few seasons ago did the exact same thing with her model and I’m pretty sure got kicked off the show for it? Gaga annoys me.
christina’s got a great voice, so I dont think she imitates Gaga. I would have used another wording for what she said though, she sounds bitter.
I loved stripped and Back to basics, but her las album (cant even remember the name) sucked a lot, I hope this one is better

However I just found out a couple of days ago that she doesn’t have an album after Back to Basis hehe :) This new Bionic thing is the only one after that. You’re probably talking about that single “Keeps getting better” that she released for her Best Of, and yeah, it pretty much sucked. I was really certain that she had released an album with that single and that simply, no one had cared about it.

Christina Aguilera has changed her look and style pretty much every new album, she may be playing to popular trends at the moment but I’d hardly say she’s coping a hack like Gaga.
I bet if this was Madonna no one would be trying to say she was copying her.

Lady Gaga in my opinion is one of the most amazing artist there is, but I have always loved Christina ever since I was four and used to listen to her music on the radio. She is talented and has a great singing voice, but I have to say her reaction to other people’s accusations was surprising to me. She tries to pretend like she has no clue who Lady Gaga is and just bashes the chick all the while trying to make people think she’s original. She’s not, but can we say any new age pop star is. No. I understand that, Lady Gaga, understands it. It’s Christina that doesn’t and most of you don’t either. You don’t have to tell the world how much you hate one or the other, because I personally think they are equally talent. (But I’m a Little Monster all the way.)
