Billy Bush scored an interview with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts on last night’s Golden Globes red carpet, but the two A-listers had an agenda. After Julia got her obligatory “Happy Birthday, Michelle Obama!” out of the way, Tom realized that he was being interviewed by an NBC reporter. NBC. You know, that network that’s been in the news for sucking and being jerks a lot lately. “Yeah, we got great information from another network”, says Tom. Julia took a moment to realize what he meant by that and then says “Another network? Yeah! NBC, you guys are in the toilet right now.” Bush laughed it off, but you could tell he was unprepared to be sass talked by Tom Hanks and a seemingly buzzed Julia Roberts. Pretty funny.
Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Remember that we’re living in a country where we’re still striving for equality. This holiday isn’t just to remember the work of a great man and the positivity of his message, but to remember that we still haven’t completely realized his dream.
The New York Times is going to be implementing a new system on their website: The first few pieces you read are free, but after that, they want you to pay up. That’s right. They’re going to be charging for news online because ain’t nobody buying their papers. I thought it was a pain to read the Times online when you had to use your free log-in, but paying for it? I doubt that anyone I know who’s not already a news junkie will be down to do that. In fact, the Times should know that too. Their previous attempt to charge for stories with TimesSelect was a complete failure, as subscribers quickly became unsubscribers and the project was abandoned.
My own opinion on this is a sad sign. I am a writer who finds it annoying that other writers need to get paid. That’s kind of repulsive, I realize that… but that’s also why I’ve found my home on the Internet and intend on staying here. Bloggers are used to getting paid off ad revenue, and if The Huffington Post can offer me an adequate summary on a NYT article for free, you can believe that that’s what I’ll be reading that and linking in my work. Yeah, I value and want to save print media too, but my friends and I can’t do that on our blogger’s salaries. You see the dilemma? What about you? Would you pay a subscription fee to read the Times online and what, if any, publications do you read offline?
Ashton Kutcher went solo to the Golden Globes last night because his wife, Demi Moore wasn’t up for attending the event. Granted, it’s 100x more difficult for a woman to prep for one of these events than a man, but it’s not as if the Golden Globes are every weekend. Or like they’ll be at the Grammys, Tonys and Oscars. It seems like part of the job to me. Demi told Twitter she was “feeling sick and having a bad hair day”, but it really looked like she she needed to put on some bronzer and brush out her bed head.
Eh, I’m just jealous because I think deep down I want to go to the Golden Globes and be married to Ashton Kutcher (for sexual reasons, duh) and be mad rich. It’s probably just that side of me that’s annoyed by this. I can’t hate on Demi. I heard she collects dolls obsessively, which is so weird that I like it. Also, she posted these photos of Ashton looking real nice before the show:
Pretty Pretty Girl Mischa Barton was up and at ‘em early this morning in NYC where she’s filming a guest appearance on one of my favorite shows, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. She’s playing a prostitute, which is typical for SVU, but her outfit is outrageous. Usually even the hos are a little refined on SVU, but wardrobe went to town for Mischa. She must have been pretty fascinated by her look too because she snapped a photo of herself alone and then a moment later with a cop (he could be an actor, but I’d like to pretend that he’s not.) Also, I’m pretty sure that’s the same leopard coat she was seen wearing while coming back from one of New York’s most exclusive shops.
I would like to tell you that the term “retard” is very offensive to me. I am not offended because I ASSUME it would offend someone who has mental retardation. I am offened on how the word came to...
I am not offended that Rosie has a fear or anxiety of LP. I feel that when someone knows very little about things and or people they tend to be anxious. Think about it if you had never been around someone...
