These People Need to Be Done Having Kids

Michelle Duggar gave birth to her millionth baby this year, a little girl named Josie Brooklyn, and this birth did not go as well as planned. Michelle went in to labor early due to complications with her own health, and baby Josie’s health has been suffering as a result.

From People Magazine:

The micropreemie was rushed from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Ark., the hospital where she was born, to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, her parents at her side.

“She developed a spontaneous bowel perforation,” explains her physician, Dr. Robert Arrington, co-director of the neonatal intensive care unit. “She responded to placement of an abdominal drain, plus antibiotics, and did not require an open operation.” It was wonderful news for her frightened parents that their tiniest baby would not require surgery. “Dr. Arrington knows how to think outside the box and come up with different creative solutions,” says a grateful Jim Bob, 44. “Josie is walking a daily tightrope to keep her vitals stable and the nurses and the whole team here has been wonderful.”

“Having reached this point in her hospital course, she should continue to gain weight and develop,” says Arrington of Josie, who now weighs 2 lbs., 3 oz. He expects her to be discharged several weeks before her original due date of March 18.

Discussions of religion or how “normal” their family situation is aside, Michelle Duggar no longer seems like she’s in good enough health to deliver healthy babies. And when you think about it, considering she’s had over nineteen children, it’s simply a miracle (or damn good luck) that there haven’t been serious complications for Michelle before. It doesn’t matter that they can afford it or that this is their chosen lifestyle in my opinion. Jim Bob and Michelle need to lay off poking each other if it’s going to result in a potentially sick baby.

  • This kind of stuff happens with 1st babies, too. My cousin is in the hospital right now with the same exact issue (preeclampsia), and she’s only 28. It’s just a crapshoot, and Michelle’s just been lucky enough to have healthy babies up until now.

    • That is true but the risks for both mother and child only go up with age and number of pregnancies. If they want more kids maybe they should adopt some from Haiti. They seem like they have a loving household and can obviously afford to have more children and though I may not agree with many of their religious beliefs, an orphan could do a lot worse for adoptive parents.

      • adoption doesn’t suit their purposes, they continue to procreate for religious-political reasons (she said something once about having babies to raise and army for g-d or something like that)

  • Oh hell. Most women’s births don’t go as planned. With a track record like hers why would she think this one would be any different. M Duggar has proven that her parts work just fine.

I think she should have MORE just to prove that this one was a fluke.

    • They’re not people, they’re fucking monkeys.
Humans are distinguished from other species by their ability to make right and wrong choices and thinking about the future instead of just being victims to primal urges and following whatever nature has set up for them. These people clearly do not have that and need to be put in a zoo like a regular animal with all the males castrated once they produce a couple offspring.

  • My first child was born just about as early as Josie. It doesn’t mean it will happen again. We had tons of people tell us we shouldn’t have any more babies because of the risks. After consulting with 3 experts in the reason for our son’s premature birth we decided the risk was small enough to be worthwhile. Our daughter is absolutely fine. She went 4 days past her due date.

Perhaps the Duggars should be done having children (I’m not them so I don’t know), but Josie’s birth story shouldn’t be a big part of that equation. Especially since everything I read was that preterm labor began because of gall bladder issues–not any commonly recurring condition that leads to premature birth.

  • Mrs. Duggar had some miscarriages early on, should she have given up then? It’s their life and if they want to have a million kids and can care for them without government assistance, then that’s their choice and their business. Maybe the Duggars should tell Molls she shouldn’t have any kids because at any time, something could go wrong no matter what age you are or how opinionated one is when supposedly writing gossip verses personal feelings.

  • I’m pretty sure the “it’s a vagina not a clown car” shirt was designed specifically for Mrs. Duggar.

      • Hmm. True. But in the circus, clowns keep popping out of the car unexpectedly, not all at the same time. I stick to my original thesis. *g*

  • i don’t think that we have the right to tell this family how many babies they can and can’t have. They are good parents with financial stability who are dedicated to thier religion and their faith… i think we should leave them alone.

    • We are not “telling”. We are “expressing opinions”. We have a right to express opinions, as you clearly know, since you have expressed yours that the Duggars “are good parents with financial stability who are dedicated to their religion and faith.” See? That’s an opinion. You expressed it, and I’m okay with that. You don’t need to worry about Molls telling the Duggars family what to do. I guarantee you she has neither Michelle, Jim Bob, nor their doctor on speed dial.

    • i don’t doubt that they’re good parents, but how can two adults care and give proper attention to nineteen children? it’s obvious the older ones get stuck caring for the younger ones and that’s not fair. have you ever seen their show? i was watching it the other night and the kids were running around unattended doing whatever they wanted to. one of the boys was using upside down crutches as stilts. not safe.

  • What is sad is if this child has severe mental and developmental challenges one of the older girls will probably be forced to give up their life to become a lifetime care giver for her so Michelle can continue breeding like a drugged up rabbit

  • I want to know who is paying the zillions of dollars it took to keep that little thing alive. I’d like proof that billybobjim has all of his family insured, otherwise it’s the rest of us caring for the brood, and that is certainly not good.

  • Molls, you never seem to amaze me. Once again your facts are incorrect. Baby number nineteen was born in early December LAST year. Not a big deal to me, but I don’t write professionally for a popular blog site either.

  • Granted the TV shows never tell you this.

But ask any GYNO/OB and they will tell you without hesitation. That l the simple fact is, having a healthy pregnancy over the age of 35 drops drastically for anyone female.

It goes double for anyone over 40.

Having a baby over 40 is hard on the Mothers body. And there are so many health related issues that come with it that should not be discounted.

    Michelle is 43.

I do hope that Josie gets better and does not have life time of health issues.

So I agree with the comment above that I truly hope Jim Bob has insurance on his brood of kids. As long as you are financial responsible for your kids, I could care less how many you decide to have as long as the state is not paying for them.

But if it is proven that the state is having to pay for this preemie care, I will be greatly annoyed. I suspect it will be well over 100,000.00 worth of care by the time she is released to go home.

  • My son was a 26 week preemie born at 1.6 lbs. There are so many complications with these preemies. Breathing problems, possible brain hemorrhages, feeding tubes. My son went home from the hospital on oxygen and a heart monitor (at 4.5 lbs). It saddens and disgusts me to see people who all ready have over a dozen happy healthy children pop out another one for their (selfish) religious beliefs. I would love to give my son a brother or sister but I would never risk and innocent child life and health on my own selfish dreams.

  • On a personal level, the Duggars creep me out making so many babies. But apparently Michelle is built to not only get pregnant at the drop of a hat, but she hasn’t gone crazy raising her kids (I think). Women are born with all the eggs they will ever have. Maybe the eggs will run out soon and she’ll hit menopause.

  • Wow, you people on here really have no clue. You are very good at twisting things around to somehow make your ownself feel better about your own sorry excuse for an existence.

These people are living their life right. No debt, everything paid for, great kids, great marriage and obviously a pretty darn good sex life. That being said, these are all things you must not have because that is all you are whining about. See, in the bible it says that jealousy is envy and obviously you all are full of envy.

If you believe in God and you cannot see that God is blessing these people then you need to open your eyes.

Also, have a little bit more respect for a family that is going through a tough time. My guess is, you would not want somebody telling you what you are doing wrong if you are in a tough situation.

  • I love it when bible thumpers use hateful, unkind words to prove how good they are or to correct others. You are no different than the posts who criticize the Duggars because you are criticizing the posters. I bet you have no idea how to communicate to others who don’t think as you do without being negative. It’s got nothing to do with God. If you follow your religion, God gave us free will. Judgement comes by how you used your free will.
