Jay Leno Wants You to Hear His Side of the Story

Jay Leno is awfully sick of playing the bad guy. Ever since he’s been accused of kicking Conan O’Brien out of his seat at The Tonight Show, Jay has been persona non grata in the press, most notably on the Internet, where Team CoCo seems to have been born. Last night Jay took a few moments at his desk before getting in to the day’s headlines to address the situation. It wasn’t exactly a perfectly executed letter addressed to The People of Earth, but Jay definitely got his side across. According to him, it was simply an issue of the network coming to him after being disappointed in Conan’s ratings and that he had little/nothing to do with the decisions that have been made.

This clip is worth a watch (at least to say you’ve heard the other side), but I’m Team CoCo to the death.

  • I watched Jay on the Tonight Show. When he changed to prime time, he changed his show and I thought it wasn’t good so I stopped watching. I also watch Conan, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson, David Letterman. It really is all about the network big wigs and contracts and MONEY.

I believe Jay and I believe Conan, both have said it was their bosses at NBC. I will stand by and wait for Conan to pop up on another network. I don’t wish failure to any other talk show. I choose to ‘change the channel’ if I don’t like someone or something. It’s great to live in a country where we have so many choices of shows that make us laugh!

    • I have to agree, although I felt like Jay wasn’t being totally honest. I think the network didn’t want to lose them both, and chose Jay as the strongest one to keep. They should actually have fired the team that designed Jay’s new set, as it was a disaster from day one. When I saw the fake plants and terrible colors on the walls I thought that I’d had a flashback to the shitty 80s.

  • I understand that Jeff Zucker’s dog blossom is now being used to create diamonds as he realizes he has single handily destroyed billions in NBC’s valuation.

  • I can’t wait to have Jay back on. Everybody was on this site saying what a back-stabber he was, and look at you now, “oh, I guess it was the networks fault, but I still perfer Co-Co”. Jay is a stand up guy, I give him kudos for taking the high road, unlike Conan who aired everybodies dirty laundry on national T.V. Good riddance Conan.

  • Meh, he could have turned down the slot, asking the executives to give Conan more time and reminding them that his ratings weren’t good the first year either. Nobody put a gun to his head and made him take the Tonight Show back. Unimpressed.

  • I always watched Jay Leno, he probably could retire, I hardly ever watched Conan, but obviously there were a lot of people who liked him. Hey he’s in California, and he moved from New York. He will make it 45 Million. Well. That Is Not Bad.
