Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal’s Son Arrested On Drug Charges Again

Remember that pretty face? The son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal, Redmond O’Neal? Well, I guess being behind bars while his mother died wasn’t enough to shake him straight, because he’s been arrested yet again on drug charges. Worst part? He left court ordered rehab to go score. You know that’s going to buy him some more time in lockdown.

From People:

The troubled son of the late Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal was busted on a drug violation on Dec. 29, a Los Angeles DA spokeswoman said Tuesday. He had been undergoing in-patient rehab since September.

At a hearing Tuesday, Judge Michael Tynan ordered Redmond, 24, into a 30-day jail rehab facility pending a Feb. 2 sentencing hearing for violating probation.

“It seems to me you haven’t got a clue as to what recovery means,” Judge Tynan lectured Redmond, who was nervously shaking his leg while wearing a blue L.A. County jail jumpsuit. “It’s a lifetime commitment. It’s grinding, hard, painful work.”

Is anyone else really sick and tired of seeing rich kids screw up on their parents dime? Sure, he’s paying the consequences, but he’s not learning any lessons and that’s why he keeps winding back up in jail. If anything, he’s just costing tax payers money at this point and it’s a real shame because if anyone could afford to go to rehab, it’s a celebrity’s kid. I have a feeling that Redmond is either going to straighten out on his own and go Born Again on us or he’ll just die. The courts aren’t getting through to this kid, so I’m thinking those are the only options, unfortunately.

  • I feel like you’re showing a lot of ignorance here. For someone like Redmond in the depths of a drug addiction, it’s not roses and butterflies trying to kick the habit and it’s almost expected that he’s going to relapse when he’s been in rehab for less than 30 days. Also, drug affect people of all socioeconomic levels – not just rich kids on their parents’ dime. We just hear about them because, you know, they’re famous and this is celeb gossip. Perhaps you should become more educated on drug addiction before you write another just-clean-up-your-act-you-scuzzy-slimebag posts. Try http://www.na.org.

    • I don’t know about his specific issues, but I’d damn sure hit the crack pipe if I had to wake up looking at that face in the mirror every day.

    • I heard he was out on his first 24 hour pass after 9 MONTHS of rehab / jail and managed to return all buzzed up.

What an idiot. After 9 months, he can’t go 24 hours unsupervised. Looks like jail may be next (hopefully).

      • The problem is that he was probably “supervised” by his addict father when he went home. And he’s had drug problems for at least six years and been repeatedly treated and jailed.

Griffin O’Neal said in an interview with Larry King that Ryan constantly supplied Redmond with money for drugs and refused also to pay for his seven-day detox programs because Redmond kept dropping out after six days. So Redmond was no longer welcome in Los Angeles detox centers.

But where was Farrah during Redmond’s battles with drugs? Were her efforts undone by Ryan? It’s amazing that Farrah somehow stayed in a long-term relationship with a violent, drug abusing narcissist like Ryan – why?

Redmond hasn’t got a chance unless he separates himself from his father, and having just lost his mother, finding the strength to distance himself from his father, who is on probation for drug violations, means that Redmond essentially has no family to turn to, unless he goes to live with Griffin or Tatum, each of whom has had serious addiction problems of their own.

And now that Redmond has inherited a multimillion dollar fortune, if he gets control of that money without being sober, he’ll probably either end up with a long jail sentence or dead.

Looks like having rich, famous, talented parents can be as much of a liability as an asset.

  • If anything, I think being in jail when his mother died would fuel his drug addiction, not avert it.

  • Another Molls post flaunting her ignorance. Money has nothing to do with whether you can kick a drug addiction, or how strong a hold it has on you. Or whether you have the strength to deal with it. Get a clue.

    • I would argue otherwise. Money is option and opportunity. His family has the money and connections to get him treated by multiple detox centers and so forth. Money has nothing to do with one’s strength to battle addiction, but it does provide a lot more support and options for those who choose to fight it.

      • All the money and connections in the world are useless if you don’t want the help. If you don’t have that will, no matter how much rehab you go to, it’s useless.

Given his parent’s particular histories, this kid has a LOT of rebuilding to do. It can be so overwhelming that in his mind, it’s probably easier to be high. Especially if he is haunted by his thoughts day in/out in rehab/jail/wherever he’s been.

  • All the money for the best treatment and detox centers don’t mean a thing if you haven’t decided you WANT to get clean and sober. Money means nothing without the will to stop. Believe me I know! My ver

  • I find it heartbreaking situation. I am tired of these narcissistic celebrity parents being such horrible parents that their kids turn to drugs and alcohol as a way to self medicate. As another poster commented; he really never had a chance.

  • I had a friend who worked two jobs putting herself through college. She had upper middle class parents who felt that once she graduated from high school, she was responsible for herself. One Christmas Eve, after working from 6 AM to 6 PM, she was falling asleep on her parent’s sofa at 10 PM. Her mother woke her and asked her if she was on drugs. She responded, “Mom, I don’t have enough money to be “on drugs”.

Maybe if more Hollywood parents and ‘heir to fortune” parents, acted like parents and gave their kids some responsibility instead of money, we wouldn’t have to read about the dead Johnson & Johnson socialite or Ryan & Farrah’s mess of a child.

  • Hey Redmond, I love ya man….I was cheering for you guy. I really thought you might try to pull it through as an ode to your mom…sorry you don’t have the balls to do it.

Here’s a little song I sing when I hear of someone not being able to make it — take note Steven Tyler—:

    Another one bites the dust
    Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
    Another one bites the dust
Hey, I’m gonna get you too
    Another one bites the dust

Have your Dad measure you up man.

  • so he’s taking drugs. it’s nobody’s business. who the hell cares. leave him alone. he’s got ryan oneil for a father and farrah fawcett for a mother. of course he takes drugs.

  • I’ve had first hand experience of seeing someone who was addicted to drugs. My friend started taking drugs at the age of 12.
Its a life long battle, not just a matter of giving up once. I know that if my friend saw his mum go through what Farrah endured, he would feel tempted to return to the drugs to hide the pain.
Drug addiction is like having the devil follow you around waiting for you to trip up.
