Lily Allen Defends Britney Spears

“You can not compare Britney with Lady GaGa. Why? You are putting Lady Gaga at the same level of Britney Spears?  I really cannot believe it. Lady GaGa is good, but she’s a new artist, Britney Spears is a legend. They are two different artists, two forms of entertainment but very different, is like comparing Picasso to Dali.”

– Lily Allen says what we all should be thinking in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

As if I needed another reason to sing Lily Allen’s praise and dog on Lady Gaga, but when you bring in the fact that we’re talking about the legendary Miss Britney Spears and Dali, too?! Pssh. Forget it. Not only is this quotable, but I’m having it tattooed on my lower back.

  • I love Lily – she makes GREAT music – but think she needs to get a new set of ears.

Britney is no Madonna. It’s too early to tell on Gaga – but she at is at least her own person.

    • Britney may not be Madonna for you, but she is the Madonna for my generation.

It’s not about being an incredible singer with a great voice. Personally I don’t think Madonna has that great of a voice. It’s about being a legend, creating an empire, becoming the icon of a generation, and for my generation Britney is certainly the icon.

      • Agreed! I’m probably ten yrs to old to understand the Madonna hype but all I know is she doesn’t have that great of a voice, isn’t that great of a dancer, and her songs don’t have that much meaning, but she was still able to dominate the music charts. Much like Ms. Britney Spears (minus the dancing part).

Actually, Lady Gaga’s probably more talented than the both of them. But like other poster’s have said, it’s her staying power and ability to continually create enjoyable music that will determine whether she’s on the same level as these icons.

      • Go crawl into her ass moron. I hate you bandwagon bitches so much

Look up “Let Go” by Britney Spears and SHUT THE FUCK UP.

      • She doesn’t sound that good on “Let Go” and for the love of all that’s good PLEASE stop telling people to SHUT THE FUCK UP.

      • I absolutely agree with you, wpolochick. I feel the exact same way about Lady Gaga. I hope she can have staying power as well. She’s raw talent.

      • What it says about your generation is that you have no ability to recognize anything that actually has artistic value. Madonna and Lady Gaga write their own songs and direct their own creative visions.

Britney is a lip-syncing pole dancer, not an artist.

  • Finally someone who fucking gets it.

Gaga is a fucking newbie who’s an attention whore and a fad. Brit’s been in the business for over 10 years and has broken many many records.

  • i love that you love lily. ive been a fan for a while and i get a lot of crap for it because of her antics, but you know what, bitch calls a spade a spade.
i agree with you all, britney is a legend, gaga makes catchy music but only time will tell if she actually has staying power. personally, she kind of weirds me out, but nothing makes for better drunken sing-a-longs than “just dance”

    • I love Lilly as well, she has the most amazing voice. I get so much shit for it too. Shes insane so I see why people don’t like her.

  • I agree with Lily, that Britney is an icon, but I think that Gaga has just as much of an opportunity to achieve that status. She’s entertained the hell out of people thus far, and obviously, only time will tell with her, but to date, she’s kept it freakin’ real and I completely look forward to seeing her continued success.

  • Totally disagree! Lady Gaga has more talent in her pinkie finger than Britney Spears does. Britney is basically a pretty face with decent dance skills and a weak voice. The only reason she shot to superstardom was sex appeal. Lady Gaga is actually bringing something new and interest to the music industry.

  • Yea, take 2 bitches who do overproduced tracks, one of them can’t even sing for real, and compare them to 2 of the greatest artists in history. Goddamn ppl need to crawl out of the asses.
For the youngsters who don’t “get the Madonna hype.” Don’t think of her NOW, go back and listen to her stuff from before ’91. Her stuff was original and had MELODIES in it. Now they just throw a bunch of bleached hair and exposed asses to drum machine beats. Ech.

    • I love you. Marry me.

and NO, lady gaga will NEVER be anywhere near a legend. she’s a talented chick. PERIOD.

  • sad to say Madonna and Janet both are past their prime and poor Britney couldn’t keep it together long enough to begin to write her own material or make her own decisions. Gaga already seems to be her own creation and can only GROW as an artist, if she so chooses. think maybe this lilly allen chick is just looking for press? only time will tell just how lady Gaga is going to affect the culture. why do so many women have to talk shit on each other? knock it off lilly. just because someone asks you a leading question doesn’t mean u should take the bait and throw a sister under the bus. Lady Gaga is probably bustin’ down doors lilly didn’t even approach, yet.

  • Britney seems like the type of artist who is controlled by managers, accountants, and even paparazzi.
An icon is someone who will still have the drive they had as they did when they were 16 or 20 or however old they were when they first entered the industry.
Britney’s stage presence has gone down the drain.
Lady Gaga seems like when she turns 90 she will be in a wheel chair decked out in diamonds and will still be fierce.

I hate it when people say Britney is “Back”when any Brit fan will tell you that all she does now is walk back and forth on stage…she has no drive anymore.

  • Brittney is cool and all, but I don’t agree with the statement in the article saying Lady Gaga cannot compare. In a sense Lady Gaga made Brittney what she is as she used to write songs for her.

  • Comparing either one of those pseudo artists to Salvador Dali or Pablo Picasso is such a faux pas. Why am I even reading this article?
