Courtney Love is Seriously Blowing This Whole “Being a Mom” Thing

Courtney Love

I told you the other day that Frances Bean has legally separated herself from her mother by requesting that the courts change her guardianship over from Courtney to Kurt Cobain’s family members. Today we’ve learned that things have gotten a bit more serious, as a restraining order has been put on Courtney to stay away from her daughter. That means that Courtney can no longer contact Frances, directly or indirectly, which I suppose includes random late night Twitter and Facebook rambles.

In fact, it could have been Courtney’s poor Facebook etiquette that got this restraining order slapped on her in the first place. From ONTD:

Courtney Love has lashed out at daughter Frances Bean Cobain after the 17-year-old girl was placed under temporary guardianship of her paternal grandmother and Kurt Cobain’s sister. (No reason was given for the guardianship.)

“I hate to sound cold but any kid of mine who pulls this s**t has lost her position…” Love, 45, rants on her Facebook page. “She was deceptive, she lied and she’s lying to herself… My daughter is not always honest.”

Love also says her daughter isn’t as rich as she thinks she is, adding that she is “clearly deluded” if she thinks she can buy her grandmother a “small house in L.A.” Says Love, “I’d love to see how that works … She thinks she has all this money. The point is, I have all the money she has.”

Love insists her daughter “is a wonderful kid,” but she has “bad people around her and wants it both ways.”

She then names several of Kurt Cobain’s family members. She even tells her daughter that her grandmother “killed your father,” Kurt Cobain.

“You could’ve asked for emancipation…” Love tells her daughter. “You realize this will put you in juvenile family circus three times in your little life?”

Before signing off, Love tells her daughter, “I love you and always will unconditionally.”

Ewww. Ranting on Facebook about personal details of having lost your child publicly? Talk about the ultimate Lamebook entry. Sure makes any time my mother ever embarrassed me in front of people seem like small potatoes. Can you imagine the game that’s going on here? Courtney is humilated because she’s lost custody of her child (which obviously speaks to her ability to mother), so she strikes back on a website read by thousands of her fans and calls her daughter a liar.

Courtney doesn’t seem to realize that this whole thing is completely her fault. I know plenty of 17 year olds who lie to their mothers, but I really can’t think of too many mothers who would do this to their child. Thank goodness for Frances that she’s out of there finally.

  • Courtney certainly has love for Frances, but Frances can’t be happy that mom is spilling the beans.
All this talk of beans and potatoes is making me hungry.

  • Ugh, she is so wretched. She seems to be incapable of personal growth or self-awareness. Even when she’s off the crack.

  • There is absolutely no way that this woman is off drugs and has been clean for 2 years or whatever it is that her manager is claiming.

  • bahaha, i knew there would be 80 million outrageously angry comments about the kirk thing. what’s the deal with evil beet? all the writers are so cool and chill, but so many of the commenters are assholes. i know the internet brings that out on people, but geez! not even youtube is this bad all of the time. i feel like people need to learn to pick their battles and be more positive. it’s frustrating reading so much intense negativity over silly things like typos! there’s actual bad shit going on in the world, i recommend checking out some news sites as well as gossip blogs to gain a little perspective.

    • Ordinarily I completely agree with you, people going postal on grammar and spelling is a tad overkill. But shit, getting a name wrong IS sloppy.

    • sweetheart, it’s not a typo. this is a celebrity gossip blog and kurt cobain is one of the most talked about, written about, KNOWN about famous celebrities to have ever lived. if you are writing on a gossip blog and do not even KNOW what his first name is, that is just embarassing. i’m not outrageously angry about it at all, just kind of.. shocked. i haven’t really seen any outrageously angry comments either, just corrections which are absolutely called for in this case.

    • Actually, I LOVED Courtneys band, Hole, when they were together. I think she held her own with many of the bands out there in her time, and totally blew away the women. It’s too bad she’s so fucked up, and I wish she could get it together. I feel that way about Amy Winehouse too.

      • Ugh. You are so annoying. You make me feel like a teenager and you are my mother. Your kids will hate you, if they don’t already.

      • The fact that I make you feel like a chastised teenager by pointing out that Courtney Love is a terrible mother says waaay more about you than it does about me.

And for the record, my 17 year old daughter fucking loves me. She likes me a lot too.

  • @team moll Mistakes are expected, but this is a biggie. Getting names right is only the first thing they pound into your head at j-school…..

  • Confusing ‘Kirk’ with ‘Kurt’ is not a little mistake, it’s just plain shameful. Not only does it refect sloppy journalism (did you not read what you were copying and pasting? His name is right there!!), but it’s also just WRONG. You don’t know who KURT Cobain is? Where the hell have you been?

  • Isn’t his name just Dirt Cobain by now? Really—do we even care at this point? It’s not like he was Elvus Prisley or Funk Sinutra or the Beedles.

  • CrabtownUSA rules.

Kirk? Kirt? Or we could also spell it “Kurdt,” as the dude often spelled it. I don’t think it matters too much to Kurt Cobain at this point.

She is promoting herself as Courtney Love Cobain: that seems odd. Her husband died approx. 15 years ago but she’s still playing professional widow (all apologies to Tori Amos).

I was a huge Nirvana and Hole fan but I don’t think Courtney has done much to attend to her daughter; it seemed that she was more interested in public appearances, movie roles, etc.

Yay for Frances. I honestly think Kurt’s side of the family is less toxic than Courtney’s.

    • What silly, ignorant commentary, from both you and Crabtown. Journalistically, it’s just plain wrong to get names incorrect and it does call for a correction and/or acknowledgment of the error.
Additionally, just because someone is dead doesn’t give us carte blanche to call them a proper name that isn’t what they had in life.
Can we refer to someone’s dead grandma as Sally when no one knew her as Sally and her real name was Lisa? Or more still, how about we just call her Dead Sally, because it’s not like it matters much to her at this point.
Kurt Cobain’s first name was never Kirk. The point isn’t about whether it matters to Kurt Cobain at this point. If that’s your argument, you’re drowning under sewage water.

      • Since when are gossip blogs known for their journalistic integrity?

The more interesting story is Frances, not Courtney, who seeks to sensationalize herself wherever and whenever she goes out.

I agree that (duh) probably sources should be checked (also spell-checked) before they’re sent to print.

I think this has been blown way out of proportion. Let’s not lambaste blog writers. I appreciated Crabtown’s comment as I think the readers were flipping out.

No, certainly I wouldn’t appreciate if my Grandma Sally was actually Grandma Lisa.

However, this is an entertainment blog. Lighten up, people.

  • Ugh I feel sorry for Frances. Courtney isn’t all there and barely seems able to take care of herself. Frances seems like a good kid. This is just sad.
