Susan Boyle’s Album Makes UK Chart History

Susan Boyle’s dream is officially realized. Although she didn’t win Britain’s Got Talent, she clearly captured the hearts of plenty of people who didn’t bother to vote, because her debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, sold more than 410,000 copies — the biggest first week sales for a debut album in UK chart history. (For comparison, Britney Spears’ Circus sold 505,000 in its first week.) This month, the record became the largest global CD pre-order in the 14-year history of Amazon.com. It’s expected to top the US charts as well. Congratulations, Susan!!!

Above hear Susan singing her hit cover of “Wild Horses.”

  • I got totally sick of her over-exposure a few months ago (and whole heartedly supported Diversity winning Britain’s Got Talent), and I forgot what a wonderful voice she has.
As long as she’s handled with care, her voice is beautiful. I’m just know I’m gonna end up getting her album.

  • “…her debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, sold more than 410,000 copies — the biggest first week sales for a debut album in UK chart history. (For comparison, Britney Spears’ Circus sold 505,000 in its first week.)”

    Statment FAIL.

    • I cannot understand why Britney was given as a comparison either. Her figures were for an established performer in the US sales charts, in the UK Circus sold substantially less.

A better comparison would have been first week sales in the UK ever, in which she was 4th in the listing. The others were in ascending order, The Circus by boyband Take That, X&Y by Coldplay and Be Here Now by Oasis, with 420,000 sold on it’s first day alone, and nearly 1 million by the end of that initial week.

  • Thats the point of using Britney’s stats as an example! Britain’s tiny! America’s HUGE! And Brit (huge superstar with ten years of fans) sold 505,000 copies and lil Susan has sold 410,000 in just the UK (the size of Florida!!) Thats why Brit was used as an example! Any prat could see that!

Cannot stand Susan B though! Her voice is good, but she’s the most annoying person in the world! Her interview techniques suck worse than *incert really sucky thing here*!

    • Susan has not been groomed and packaged from childhood or adolescence to be in the spotlight. She has no parents or family to travel with her and support her. Clearly it’s a huge struggle for her to handle this level of fame. I just hope that someone close to her can help her manage all this, otherwise she may be destroyed by it.

  • Bah. She’s definitely not bad, she has a nice enough voice and can hold a note… but she is by no means brilliant. I don’t know what the hoohah is all about. Maybe it’s a just sad testament to the fact that there’s a lot of stuff out there that’s worse?
