there’s nothing wrong or unromantic about this story- but as i said before it’s a story for friends or your future offspring- they will find it special and romantic and all that- strangers looking to read THE WINNER of a “most out of the ordinary proposal story” competion aren’t going to be bowled over. The people who comment on blogs or gossip websites etc are, like myself, bored and anonymous, which leads us to compare everything posted to the ultimate possible in entertainment value, and if it falls short of our expectations, we slip a few half-thought-out phrases from the comfort and safety of our computers. Don’t take it personally- just think, if you were to read a story that won the “most embarrassing story ever” competition, and the winner had walked around for half a day with tp stuck to their shoe, you would be sitting going “ho hum, I expected someone to have peed themselves or been caught having sex by their parents or something”. It doesn’t mean the tp incident wasn’t embarrassing, but it could have been so much worse….

Wow,
Some people are really cruel. From the above entries I have found out that my wife and I are headed for divorce, our life is uneventful, and my proposal was neither funny, wacky, or bizarre. I am very appreciative about Liz winning and still in shock. My point was just an attempt to catch her off balance and throw the best curve that I could. Too bad their was not a contest about how we met or the “big-day”. Now those are some good stories. Anyhow, we have decided to go to Napa Valley and are very excited! Here is to a great marriage, fine wine, and even some good cheese!

It was an okay story – I’m surprised it won, though. Congrats to the couple, but I agree with anonymous above me. Tell-your-friends-funny, but hardly the best one out there. I was looking forward to a wonderful, romantic story!

Yep, that was really disappointing! I didn’t enter my story because I’m outside the US but I was kind of hoping the winner would have something good. I thought the judges didn’t get a single entry that wasnt funny or wacky or bizarre… so why did this one win? I mean it’s tell-your-friends funny, but not funny or interesting to anyone who doesnt know you. YAWN

yay! i saw the word “asshole” in unintentionally skimming and thought i wasn’t going to like it, but i totally did. we don’t know what happened in the past with them and it sounds like they can be both funny and romantic with each other, which is definitely great.
(and by the way i like that his motivation was finding a way to surprise her. that was cool beans.)

Seriously? My story didn’t win? That is a completely ridiculous story and just plain awful. To pick someone that had a break up already with this person? They’re obviously headed for divorce at some point. Way to go.
