Rihanna’s New Song Cures a Nation of Insomniacs

The wait might be ova, but I’d be fine if it wasn’t.  Rihanna’s new single “Russian Roulette” dropped — take a listen.

It’s no coincidence that this song is titled after a game that’s all about potentially shooting yourself.  It’s that boring.  Like, you don’t want to be listening to this song if you are driving because you could end up on someone’s lawn Billy Joel style before you know it.  It’ll put you to sleep …a melodic Unisom, if you will.

Overdramatizing?  Probably.  And I know it’s not cool to criticize Rihanna, but why do all her songs sound the same?

  • Yes this song is a little on the sloooow side. I think it’s fine as an unreleased album song. Why the heck drop it as a single?? No radio station is going to play that until it gets remixed…if then.

    • Actually heard it on the radio on the way to work this am. It’s a dark song, but I liked it.

  • So… why is it called Russian Roulette? I thought it was going to be another song like Disturbia or something.

    Disappointed RiRi, verrry disappointed.

  • There is no point in trying to dissect what this song meant for Rihanna since she didn’t even write this song….not that she’s ever written any songs in the first place.

  • couldn’t bear to listen to this artistic statement, but i am inclined to think that Rihanna herself knows it’s a snooze since she is trying so hard to distract with being semi-nude. the henna hair color looks nice on her though, from as much as i can see of it in front view. but is that ‘do a nasty blond tipped of comb-over? her barbed wire computer game character outfit looks mighty desperate. not gonna watch.

  • Lol. Wendie, you are my absolute favourite writer on the internet. I also think that it is ridiculous that we cannot say anything bad about Rihanna.

  • while i was out in retail world yesterday i had the misfortune of being tormented by a bleating droning dull monotonous “song” in the store that i was sure was by beyonce, due to how boring the song was and the obviously limited vocal range of the singer. turns out the perpetrator of this nuisance was rihanna, doing a song that keeps repeating “the mewzik, nothing but the mewzik, nothing but the mewzik.” the end of the song audaciously contains a rendition of a michael jackson songclip for no good reason, as though a desperate attempt to polish rihanna’s turd of a song. if she wants a career in entertainment, she’d better show some talent and fire her team.

  • another day, another masonic song from rihanna. She doesn’t write her own crap because she’s not supposed to. her job is to sing what she’s given by the big guys and reap the rewards of versace etc once she hits number one with it…having brainwashed half the polulation. i honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the suicide rates go up this year…probably nto from the message of the song either…more from how shyte it is.

  • I think this is a very real problem and I am glad to see that Harvard is covering it. I think images are the biggest threat, especially on social media sites like Facebook. It’s an even bigger problem now if Facebook profiles have become searchable in Google…oooch

  • Thanks very much for this downright website;this is the kind of thing that keeps me on track through my day.
