The Wait Is Ova, and So Is Rihanna’s Participation in the Hollywood Spelling Bee

rihanna

Ri-Ri’s ass would get slammed in a spelling bee by Fergie. That bitch can spelling anything, even hard words like “glamorous,” and Rihanna can’t even spell “over.” That’s probably because she got hit in the head earlier this year. Rihanna took to her brand-new Twitter to announce her new album’s release date, stating “The Wait Is Ova. Nov 23 09.”

Glad you’re back on your feet, kiddo, and I’m looking forward to the album.

  • There’s some song that Fergie sings that has annoyed me for a long time because of the stupid words that she uses.

“Like a child misses their blanket”

If she’s talking about a single child, then “their” doesn’t work because that implies more than one child! WTF!? I notice it every time that song comes on.

    • does no one know grammar? it does make sense. whats the alternative? ‘his’ ‘her’ or ‘its’ and it isnt a very good representation of a child. children miss their blankets and one child can miss thier/his/her blanket.

and plus “That bitch can spelling anything, even hard words like “glamorous,” ”

that bitch can spell anything maybe?

and saying she got hit in the head? take one more look at that picture and take away the desensitization you’ve gotten from running it so many times. now joke.

      • Ummm… using ‘his’ or ‘her’ would have worked just fine. It isn’t proper to use a plural form to describe a singular subject! Now it is becoming more acceptable due to people using it incorrectly, but the proper way is to just saddle up with a specific gender and go for it.

Do you see how you said “children miss their blankets”? That’s what she needed to do. She just needed to make it plural for that to be correct. One child can only miss their blanket if they are multiple children in the body of one child, which doesn’t make any sense as it is.

Here’s a usage note from the word ‘he” at dictionary.reference.com that further illustrates my point.

        “Usage note:
Traditionally, the masculine singular pronouns he1, his, and him have been used generically to refer to indefinite pronouns like anyone, everyone, and someone (Everyone who agrees should raise his right hand) and to singular nouns that can be applied to either sex (painter, parent, person, teacher, writer, etc.): Every writer knows that his first book is not likely to be a bestseller. This generic use is often criticized as sexist, although many speakers and writers continue the practice.
Those who object to the generic use of he have developed various ways of avoiding it. One is to use he/she or she/he (or he or she or she or he) or the appropriate case forms of these pairs: Everyone who agrees should raise his or her (or her or his or his/her or her/his) right hand. Forms blending the feminine and masculine pronouns, as s/he, have not been widely adopted, probably because of confusion over how to say them.
Another solution is to change the antecedent pronoun or noun from singular to plural so that the plural pronouns they, their, and them can be used: All who agree should raise their right hands. All writers know that their first books are not likely to be bestsellers. See also they. ”

  • Beet, I think that that “hit in the head” joke was in poor taste. What one might think is just a trivial, witty comment, might not be for another.

      • it is in poor taste but considering how rih rih seems to have forgiven chris lets all laugh at her and her stupidity, that bump never knocked any sense into her.

    • I CAN’T believe you guys aren’t getting it!! Clearly — she’s hinting at pregnancy here. “Ova”? “The wait is OVA”? And the supporting (heh) evidence is that she seems to be wearing a nursing bra. Granted, a black satin, demi cup nursing bra, but I’m sure someone makes pads for those too.

And – hit in the head — funny :D

  • Hmm…just curious how you guys are able to get outraged into righteous hysterics every time a picture is snapped of Chris Brown smiling, yet you can apparently crack a joke about Rihanna getting hit in the head if it compliments your snark. I think your moral compass is in serious need of adjustment.

  • As an editor for a scolarly journal, of course I don’t write much slang. However, I am African American, aka Black, and an avid speaker of African American Vernacular English. Therefore, I think that she’s not exhibiting stupidity or lack of education, but only tweeting in the language that most Blacks in America (and those of other races as well) use. Make sense? And Beet, you say some pretty off-the-wall things sometimes yourself. Do you, my friend, have a personal editor?

    • wait, you’re an editor for a “scolarly” journal? perhaps you should work on editing your own posts first.

  • Southerner’s have the darnest time spelling those tricky dictionary words.. revolutionary.. y00u spell as you speak people!
