Roman Polanski Finally Arrested

Filmmaker Roman Polanski showed up in Switzerland to accept an award at the Zurich Film Festival, but wound up getting some cuffs slapped on him instead. For those of you who don’t know, Polanski has been running from the law since 1978 after he drugged and raped a 13 year old girl at Jack Nicholson’s house in 1977. The 76 year-old director was picked up at the airport once the Swiss police were made aware of his arrival and  is facing possible extradition to the United States to be tried for his crime.

  • Damn, imagine running for more than 30 years. It must be exhausting, having to watch your every move.
But what goes around comes around! Filthy raper! I hope you die in pain, lots o’pain!

  • You might find the victim’s reaction quite interesting:

In a 2003 interview, Samantha Geimer said, “Straight up, what he did to me was wrong. But I wish he would return to America so the whole ordeal can be put to rest for both of us.” Furthermore, “I’m sure if he could go back, he wouldn’t do it again. He made a terrible mistake but he’s paid for it”.

In 2008, Geimer stated in an interview that she wishes Polanski would be forgiven, “I think he’s sorry, I think he knows it was wrong. I don’t think he’s a danger to society. I don’t think he needs to be locked up forever and no one has ever come out ever – besides me – and accused him of anything. It was 30 years ago now. It’s an unpleasant memory … (but) I can live with it.”

      • actually, she didn’t have to say anything at all. She admitted she was a “wild child” & had done drugs & had sex with men as old as Roman before & after. I’m not saying what he did was right & yes she was underage, but there are FAR worse crimes comitted against children that I think people need to be focusing on.

      • “She admitted she was a “wild child” & had done drugs & had sex with men as old as Roman before & after.”

One of the many warn out excuses straight from the book of excuses used by those who promote adult/child sexual relationships. Much like the “some people are immature at 40, while others are mature at 13” argument.

      • Thank you Dan the Man! People will always make excuses for pedophilia. Sickening isn’t it? There is NEVER an excuse to drug and screw a 13 year old CHILD.

      • ummm, it had been an excuse had I followed it with “so he isn’t at fault,” or, “he shouldn’t get punished.” All I was saying that he didn’t force her to take drugs and drink, this doesn’t mean that what he did was okay, nor do I promote adult child sexual relationships. You obviously like to hear yourself talk.. er type, not only without actually reading what someone says or doesn’t, but also like to twist words to fit to your own written agenda. Very nice.

      • “Yet, he did NOT drug & booze the girl. She admited she did that before & long after the incident & that she never said no.”

Whether or not he forced her take alcohol and drugs or gave them to her, it was illegal.

She said no, repeatedly to his sexually advances before and during the rape. It was not consensual sex, it was rape. She repeatedly said no and asked him to take her home.

Even if she was ok with it, 13 year old girls can NOT give consent. If she had sex with older men before this, it just shows that he preyed upon someone who had been previously abused.

He does have a history of sexual relationships with teens. Some legal, some barely legal but he does have a pattern. I assume you’re aware of this?

“also like to twist words to fit to your own written agenda.”

I don’t have to wonder what your agenda is; it just depends on whether or not you believe what you’re saying. If you believe it, than I think you should review some of the original source material, as opposed to a documentary whose filmmaker clearly stated was not about the rape (it’s too cut and dry to make an interesting case on his behalf) but was about the legal proceedings that followed the rape.

If you don’t believe what you are saying, then your agenda is clear but you would never admit to it.

      • oh my god man…. as for “Whether or not he forced her take alcohol and drugs or gave them to her, it was illegal,” & the rest of your response, NO SHI!T, Dr. Obvious!
ALL I said was that she did drink & take drugs before & after the incident which I guess in your small mind means that I “promote adult child sexual relationships.” I never said it was her fault, I never blamed her, I never said he was innocent & not at fault. So have fun on your extreme obvious statement soapbox, I’m done.

      • So what is your point, Pea? YOU’VE ALREADY LIED AND SAID SHE NEVER SAID NO. You’ve said disparaging things about the 13 year old victim. You’ve said that Woody Allen is far worse a man for having consensual sex with an adult (yes, a very creepy relationship), than Roman Polanski is for raping a 13 year old child.

Do you have a point? I’d love to hear it. All I’m hearing is a lot of deflection of criticism of a guy who raped a child and name calling aimed at the people who would like to see him do time.

      • oh dear god,
yeah I read an interview with her years later where she said at the time, she didn’t say no. That does not mean I think he is innocent & she is to blame. Woody Allen had pictures of Soon Yi naked before she was 18, but that’s ok, right? And don’t even get me started on R. Kelly.
Saying she was a drug user is not disparaging, it’s a fact that she said herself. Finally, my point was just that she had done drugs before and after & was not plied with them by him (which by the way is not disparaging, it’s a fact) & NOT that he is innocent or she is to blame. But I guess in your, again I say small mind, me stating a simple fact means I LOVE pedophiles & “promote adult/child sexual relationships.” Get over yourself.

      • oh wait, & where exactly did I say that what Woody Allen did was “far” worse? oh yeah, no where. What I said was that is was just as, if not more. NOT far. I think that a man talking nude photos of his own stepdaughter when she wasn’t yet 18 is pretty bad, b/c who knows what else happened, but it is in now way far worse than having sex with a 13 year old. So where did I say it was? oh yeah again, no where. Just more of you twsiting things.

      • & I guess you conveniently missed the post where I said that it is reprehensible to have sex with minor… probably b/c it goes against your labeling of me as a pedophile and a promoter of adult/child sexual relationships.

      • finally for real this time, as for name calling, I called you Dr. Obvious b/c you state the obvious. I did not call anyone names like, oh I don’t know a
        1) pedophile lover
        2) loser
        3) promoter of adult/child sex
        4) pervert
        5) liar

nor did I wish death on anyone.

      • Referring to her drug use and possible sex with/abuse by other older men is the kind of disparaging talk used by attorneys who defend those accused of rape.

I did not say you promoted adult/child sexual relationships, I said you use the same arguments as those who do.

I did not call you a pedophile or any of those other names (except liar) or wish death on anyone.

The name calling from you I’m referring to was stuff like small mind, juvenile, psychotic, etc.

As far as calling you a liar, either you are a liar or you believe the victim lied originally but told the truth AFTER Polanski paid her or you’ve never even bothered to look at the actual testimony.

      • to call someone a dirty whore cokehead is disparaging. To say they admited drink/drugs when they did, is a fact. I was going by what the victim, NOT the DA said. When I read interviews time & time again that she was pressured to say that she said no by the DA, then court testimony doesn’t matter. Just b/c he paid her off doesn’t mean she has to say these things, she could stay quiet.
Lisa’s reaction & what she said to me is slightly psychotic in my opinion, so if it walks like a duck & talks like a duck, I’m going to call it a duck. Had I called her a loser or dirty bitch, that would’ve been name calling.
Now tell me again, where did I say that Woody Allen was far worse? & how about those times I wrote that what he did was horrible & should’ve faced his sentence. Nice job avoiding those questions.
Really, please, continue to stay on your soapbox & blatantly omit things I’ve said that go against the point you are trying to make & twist things so they fit what you are. I spent way too much of my time on you already.

      • “…but there are FAR worse crimes comitted against children that I think people need to be focusing on.” you sound pretty lax on the pedophelia.

      • here we go again….

so b/c I think to murder a child, beat them on a dialy basis, or to kidnap & repeatedly rape numerous children every year is worse than what he did, WHICH I STATED WAS REPRENSIBLE, that makes me a bad person?

  • Pedophiles! May they all rot in hell. It is about time he got caught. These pedophiles are lower than pond scum in my opinion.

  • Only in Hollywood are these types celebrated and feted, awarded, and worshiped and ultimately — walk away free. Say hello to OJ when you leave the Courthouse, Mr. Polanski. No one is punished in Hollywood.

    • Perhaps you missed those details about Polanski being feted and awarded and worshiped throughout the world in a way that the US authorities weren’t willing to allow to happen with him in the United States. Polanski hasn’t been in the United States in over 30 years and he has received US awards (and awards from other “extradition friendly” countries) in absentia for eons, for fear of arrest by US authorities.
Your contention about “only in Hollywood” is specious, at best. Also, OJ is currently in lockup (no, not for what the masses believe he should have been sent away for, but for a long (delayed) sentence, nonetheless), so OJ’s a poor example of your point.

  • I’m certainly not making an excuse for him but let us not forget that he lost his wife Sharon Tate and their unborn child (along with others) when the Manson Family brutally murdered them in their home.

    That probably changes a person.

    • Who the hell cares about his past? I do not feel sorry for him. He drugged, boozed, and raped a 13 year old girl. Throw the book at him. And, I hope they add charges for evading the law.

    • there are plenty of criminals who have terrible past stories, but that doesn’t justify what they did. and he has used his past, i.e sharon tate and holocaust story to gain sympathy for his crime – how manipulative. he also has talked nastily about the young girl he drugged and raped.

also, someone doesn’t just suddenly have impulses to rape. it probably has manifested itself in him for a long time and even after this incident he would be around young girls. i think he met his current wife when she was about 15 years old, and then got married in her early 20’s.

    • Oh, you’re almost as bad as Molly. I’m surprised she wasn’t waxing on and on about how ‘sad’ and ‘tragic’ it must be that someone was held accountable for their actions.

    • I agree with you for the most part. It is reprehensible to have sex with a minor & I think the Manson murders aren’t an excuse. Yet, he did NOT drug & booze the girl. She admited she did that before & long after the incident & that she never said no. She also said she knew, as well as her mother, what kind of was going to happen, but she really wanted a modeling career. There are interesting documentaries about this topic. He shouldn’t have ran & faced charges like a man and I am rambling…. damn cold medicine.

      • Uhm, she has CLEARLY stated in interviews that she did say no. Pea, are you a pedophile? Or, do you just like playing the “blame the victim” game? Even IF she wanted the drugs and sex, that does not excuse Roman. She was a CHILD, he should have said NO and taken her back to mommy. But, no, it is SO MUCH EASIER to say she wanted it.

What fucking planet are you living on LOSER? Go and kill yourself. Yeah, I just said that. I don’t want YOU anywhere near my child. Pedophile lover.

      • While it’s fair of both of you to have your opinions – Lisa shame on you for even saying “go and kill yourself.” You should never EVER wish that on anyone. Grow up.

      • oh Lisa Lisa…. funny you telling me to grow up. You obviously missed your morning meds, hopefully the nurse remembered & they kick in after you read this. As for the girl & what she said, we obviously have read different accounts & seen different things. Ok, that happens a lot in the media. Where am I blaming her? Where am I saying she deserved it? Was it before or after I said “He shouldn’t have ran & faced charges like a man.” No run along & paint a picture in the arts & crafts wing, & leave the name calling where it belongs, among 10 year olds.

      • ok come on, I doubt she does much else in life, let her have her moment, as juvenile & slightly psychotic as it may be,

      • She may or may not have been drinking and taking drugs previously, but at the time of the rape, he did indeed give her the alcohol and drugs which incapacitated her.

Read the grand jury testimony transcripts.

    • I’ve read Helter Sketler so many times. The crazy thing is that in both the Tate & LaBianca murders, Manson actually didn’t kill anyone, yet he could convince so many people to carry out so many horrid acts for him. I wonder what would’ve became of the 4 people that actually commited those murders had they never met Manson. I find cults so interesting. Like on the one hand the members obviously have something missing, but also like with Manson, David Koresh & Jim Jones, I don’t know. What was is about them that made these people listen & carry out their wishes??

  • What’s almost as sick as his actions is that many people to this day defend him. Many high level people in Europe are concerned and upset that he was arrested.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.”

  • I don’t really think they should lock him up for raping the girl when she was 13. I think they should lock him up for making shitty movies these past 30 years and wasting peoples time and money. Now THAT’S a fucking crime.

    • Actually, I HATE him as a person, but I LOVE his movies. I’ve never bought one because I didn’t want to support his freedom, but I have seen them on cable. He is truly a brilliant filmmaker, too bad he is such a piece of shit. Once again, there is NO EXCUSE for drugging and screwing a 13 year old. EVER.

      • Ha Ha Ha Ha…I love people that take stands like you did! Like it really fucking matters whether you ‘bought’ one of his movies. I’m sure that showed him. He probably had to fucking fly coach instead of first class.

  • Watch Roman Polanski: Wanted & Desired. As this documentary makes clear, a corrupt and publicity-hungry judge presided over the original disposition of the criminal case. Polanski actually served some time at a psychiatric facility in Northern California. Polanski ran when the deal his attorneys made with the DA was revoked by the court. He was also a Holocaust survivor who finally found love, comfort, and a feeling of safety with Sharon Tate, only to have her tortured and murdered by the Manson family.

    • Just because someone had a horrible and troubled past does not give them the right to do horrible things to another person, especially a child.

    • Yeah, I watched the documentary, too. No one has a stronger hate for predators that harm children than I have, but I have to admit that when I watched it, my outlook on this particular situation changed. I’m not condoning what he did, but the situation is not black or white, either.

      • watch what you say in here, SNK. It seems if you don’t think he should burn in hell, it means you are a pedophile lover & excusing what he did while blaming the victim among most commentators.

      • I agree with you on this Pea. Most of the comments here strike me as bloody self-righteous. I find this guttural, thoughtless damnation of the man regrettable. None of us has the right to decide on who should “burn in hell”, or rot in prison for that matter. The victim’s [notice how I am referring to her as “victim”, i.e. I do think Polanski committed a very regrettable crime] response, one that has undoubtedly changed significantly during the years, is infinitely more important and last year, if I’m not mistaken, said victim asked for the charges against Polanski to be dropped. Also, simply acknowledging that the case is a very peculiar one, and one ridden with contradictions, does not make one a pedophile or pedophile lover.

      • thanks Ida, it’s just proof that certain people love to hear themselves speak & will twist and/or completely omit things that others say in order to try to make their own point work and have a reason to tell someone else that they are a loser, should die, as well as promote adult/child sexual realtionships.

    • I saw a program about Tate once. It said that he cheated on her repeatedly and he made her feel like crap when she wanted to keep their baby. It also said she basically had to “convince” him to marry her. I think its important to realize that sometimes people with lots of talent are total jerks and sometimes they’re great people–just like the rest of us.

  • Does anyone else find it a bit….odd…that around the same time Polanski was arrested Susan Atkins (of the Manson family and if I’m not mistaken the one who actually murdered Sharon Tate) died? I’m not implying it means anything- it’s just weird timing.

  • Until the law captured and arrested him, who knows what else he did to others.. Time to face the judge and plead for your life Perv..

  • Some of the comments here are scary… it was a 13 year old girl that he raped… can care less if she was “wild” and I’m sure she would rather have it all go away; every time this freak makes a movie, I’m sure she gets unwanted attention. Glad they caught him, he can now be judged for what he did.

  • only in America do the still give a fuck about a crime a billion years later.
lay off the guy and arrest people who still pose a goddamn danger.

    • So, as long as you run far enough and enough time goes by, you never have to serve your sentence, as a court has ordered? Nice logic.

The part you neglected to mention regarding America, especially California, is whether he now hires an expensive lawyer / team of lawyers and squirms out of this somehow.

  • This arrest could turn out to be good for Roman Polanski. If there’s one thing that’s been missing from his film resume, it’s a good family-friendly Disney movie. Returning to the states might open up the opportunity for him to finally make that Disney movie.

  • Posters on this board are just too much sometimes. People are threatening each other, calling each other pedophiles, and just being ridiculous in general.
    Relax people.

    • Geesh, you said it Anne, people are out of control. Are we really that mad or angry? I think life is way too short to argue with strangers online, LoL but thats me. Now gather ’round the peace pipe and chill it out.

  • Why doesn’t anyone harp about Jack Nicholson? It was his house she got raped in. Doesn’t he have owner liability??

  • I read the film directors like Pedro ALmodovar have signed a letter askig for his freedom, saying stuff like that it happended “a long time ago” and taht we should forget and more bullshit

I am happy that he is caught, I dont f* care how talented he is as an artist, he drugged and rapped a 13 year old and that deserves punishment!!

    • There was no “tracking down” of Roman Polanski. The United States needed to find a willing international partner who would arrest and possibly extradite him. France, where Roman Polanski has lived for the majority of the last 30 years, was unwilling to do so; as was Switzerland, where he had visited before during his time on the lam from the US, but for this visit Switzerland arrested him, for some reason.
Despite what some may wish to believe, the world is not the US’s playground.

  • What people tend to forget is that he and his victim settled a suit out of court, and that she has tried repeatedly to get the criminal charges dropped against him. Basically, she’s said that the DA dragging the court case on and on and revoking the plea deal has messed her up a zillion times more than Polanski ever did.

    • I doubt that, seeing as there would not have been any “dragging out the court case on and on” if he hadn’t raped her.

  • WTF?! doesnt even the VICTIM dissagre with his arrest? and doesnt the fact that the victims mother DELIVERED the girl to his door and said she was 18 count?

  • Roman Polanski drugged a 13 year old girl, performed fellatio on her while she said no, raped her vaginally while she said no and then sodomized her while she said no. The victim stated in the court documents that she was afraid of him and that he ejaculated in her anus after questioning whether she was on birth control or knew when her last period was.

If this does not strike you as heinous then perhaps you should disqualify yourself from making any comments on this blog topic. This rape was clearly premeditated and is so incredibly disgusting even after 30 years.

I support his arrest and conviction and I hope that he sees justice for this horrible act.
