Suzanne Somers: “Patrick Swayze Was Poisoned”

Suzanne Somers in 2007

I love it when celebs pontificate on complex issues such as Middle Eastern politics or life-saving medical treatment, as if being able to cry on cue makes them an expert in every field. Suzanne Somers is particularly adroit at this method of putting her perky little foot in her perky little mouth.

Recently, Somers — whose oncological experience consists of one season of Three’s Company and stage kissing Patrick Duffy —  asserted that Patrick Swayze died not from pancreatic cancer, but because his doctors poisoned him with chemotherapy.

“They took a beautiful man,” Somers said, “and put poison in his body. Why couldn’t they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins?… I hate to be this controversial… but I have to speak out.”

Of course! Everyone knows that the cure for aggressive pancreatic cancer is organic veggies and squeezing out a few rounds on your ThighMaster.

It’s too bad Ms. Somers has not yet discovered a cure for leather neck-itis

  • Shut up, Suzanne. You should focus on how not to look like a drag queen instead of talking about something you know nothing about. I’m sure you’re not trying to be controversial at all…you’ll say anything to try to stay relevant.

  • What’s so wrong with believing in alternative medicine? It’s no secret that the health care industry focuses more on treating conditions than trying to cure them… there’s no money in the cure, there’s ridiculous money to be made in chemotherapy and medicine.

    • Well I believe in traditional and alternative treatments, but what benefit does her statement provide to Patrick’s wife, Lisa?

      • As for Lisa: No matter what Suzanne says, he isn’t coming back so there’s no real way to console her. So why not make light of an issue you believe in while it’s relevant? If she says it now, she’s an insensitive bitch and if she brought it up in 2 months people would accuse her of bringing up old news in an effort to stay relevant.

      • Well, maybe the same passion that fueled her to write the book was the same passion that made her want to speak up now. She may feel really strongly about this and want to get a different opinion out there.

    • Those in the alternative medicine field are also out to make money. There’s virtually no evidence that any of it actually works. In fact, there are plenty of studies that show that this or that alternative medicine or practice doesn’t work. At least traditional medicine has to be approved through the FDA as being beneficial, and when you buy something, it has to contain what it says it does. There is no regulation of the alternative market.

That’s my problem with it, anyway.

      • Just because something is approved through the FDA, though, doesn’t mean it’s the best solution.

And there are many times when a product really does help but for whatever reason it can’t be approved by the FDA, or is taking too long to get approved because of the ridiculously long wait time that critical patients can’t afford to lose.

      • and don’t forget that sometimes medicines are tested and the results are published but they will leave out the fact that people did just as well on the placebo- except without the terrible side effects…

      • Drugs are routinely tested on white men and the results are touted as being for the average person. I am not a white man and that makes the tested medicines inappropriate for me. FDA stands for Federal Death Administration. If you think that FDA is out to save you get your H1N1 and backup flu shots and shingles shot and take the FDA drugs for all your separate ailments and see how long you remain “healthy”.

      • Drugs are tested on cancer patients through clinical trials. the DISEASE has to fit certain criteria, in order to decide which drug the person may benefit from. I know this because I am a female who has helped the researchers, and possibly helped save someones life, by volunteering for a clinical trial. None of the questions that was ever asked is “what color is your skin” You, sir are a hater, and evidently will use any forum out there to show the world just how racist black people really are. I like it. It shows the truth. black men are the most racist beings on the planet. Why do you think you are so entitled to every thing, because your great, great, great, on and on, grand parents were slaves? Get over yourself. Every society has enslaved someone all through history, whether paid a pittance, such as the early Irish that came to this country, and the children were worked twelve hours a day, and regularly paddled by the boss to the point of bleeding, and facing signs in the big cities “No Irish Allowed!” Did you know that the Japanese imported more Africans to Japan than the “White Devil” ever did? (Of course you didn’t know that. By your post, I am certain that you rarely open a history book) The Japanese thought thoroughly about it, and decided to castrate every man and boy from Africa the minute they stepped off the boat. I really suggest you stop hating white people, and try to get along. Take a shower, buy a suit, type a resume (if you don’t have any education, get one!!! It is easier for the black man to get a grant or government help than it is for the white man, and you know it.) If you are too undisciplined to do that, at least get a real-estate license and do that. If you can’t do that, try to be a teller in a bank.) After you get your suit and give out your resumes, you will get a job, just as easily as any white man, because, regardless of what you think, we give everyone equal chances.–it wasn’t just blacks that voted for Obama, you know. Speak clearly. Walk with your head held high, learn how to pronounce words, expand your vocabulary, keep your mind and body clean. Be responsible. And mostly, stop hating white people. Think about it; if not for the sacrifices of your ancestors back during slave days, you would still be living in Africa, either waring with a rival tribe, or starving to death in a camp. You, in fact , wouldn’t even be here. Your ancestors probably came from distant lands in Africa, and none of them would have met, had they not been brought here. therefore, Mr Bigot black dude, you wouldn’t even be here. Get a life, bigot. You proved my point. to bring up race in a cancer forum is the epitome of bigotry. You really have a problem.

  • From Wikipedia:
In 2001 Somers announced that she had breast cancer, having a lumpectomy to remove the cancer followed by radiation therapy, though she decided to forego chemotherapy in favour of alternative treatment.

I don’t think her “oncological experience consisting of one season of Three’s Company and stage kissing Patrick Duffy” was her only reason for speaking out…

    • Ifeel what ever the out come those who have sufferd with cancer. Have looked in to the best way to cure there self. Cancer is a tribule to deal with some cancer can be helped like breast/colen if found in time. Every one has a right to there opp . Mine personly i would try herpes.

      • Hi, Elaine: I have genital herpes. Discovered it in 1992.–Nice, i have only been with 4 men in my whole life. I have a friend that is kind of a slut, and she has NOTHING! Nothing in this world is fair.

At any rate, I discovered metastatic breast cancer in 2002. I have often wondered about a connection. One time I broke out in Shingles on my back, and took some potent anti-virals. For two weeks. I was hoping the anti-viral drugs may help to kill the cancer, or just the fact that I have a virus that hangs out in the spinal cord area might just kill the cancer–NOT–In fact, somehow, I developed a rogue tumor in my vertebral sac at t6-8. Now I am wondering if the herpes didn’t help to promote the cancer, since this is where it stays in its’ dormant state.

    • Sure, So she had a very early form of breast cancer that only required a lumpectomy and radiation. Many women ( and a few men, don’t forget) fall into this category, and it is particularly effective in the early stages of the disease. I wish that were the case for everyone. Unfortunately, many of us are not so lucky. My back hurt in 2002, and I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, that had spread to my bones and liver. This was four months after my mammogram. I was 44. All I can say is, thank God, and all the geniuses that come up with these new drugs–yes they are poisons; very strong poisons. These poisons saved my life by shrinking the tumors in my liver. I look ugly, don’t feel very good, and my doctors have told me outright that either the cancer is going to kill me or my body ill not be able to take the chemo any more. Thank God, this poison has kept me alive long enough to watch my ten year old turn into a very independent young woman. It has bought me time with my family. I have had the opportunity to take small trips, and seen things in whole new light. I might just live long enough for them to find cure, you never know. As for the conspiracy theorists out there, don’t you think that cancer reserchers and their loved ones get cancer also?

Yes, Suzanne Somers got very lucky. There are over three hundred types of breast cancer alone. She got a cncer that was easily treatable with a common, standard treatment. I was hoping that would be all I needed, too. It wasn’t. Oh well. Each of us has our turn the minute we come into this world. Ms. Somers knows nothing about oncology or about gene replication, genetics, or anything else. She knows how to make money off womens’ misfortunes and I think it is criminal that she should be giving advice as if she is a doctor. The last I heard she actually used the phrase “The doctor said I have full-body-cancer”. There is no doctor that would describe any cancerous infection as being a “full body-anything”. They might say something like “extensive metastases”, but not the other. I think she is an evil person for leading people astray from chemotherapy, if a doctor recommends it, and I don’t trust a word she says. I think she cannot tell fact from fiction, nd should somehow be stopped. Thank you

    • Dear Anonymous:

There are over 300 types of breast cancer, alone. The cancer she had was a very, extremely ,early form of the disease, very easily removed with a lumpectomy, and cured with a few rounds of radiation. They did the same treatment for my mom in 1989. She is fine. She only has a dent in her breast as a reminder. Oncologists, by the way are extreme scientists. they are constantly working on new formulas of different elements, compounds, and natural ingredients to come up with life saving drugs.

Suzanne Somers has NO ONCOLOGICAL experience. The chemistry is mind-boggling

Also, what kind of cancer did you have? I didn’t see that here.

  • Not to say that Ms. Somers is right in her opinion or that it was even appropriate to make such a statement so soon after the death of Patrick Swayze, but she is a breast cancer survivor who pursued alternative means of treatment as opposed to traditional chemotherapy. I would say that her personal experience with cancer gives her a bit more credibility on the issue than just any celeb wanting to make a comment. You could have at least mentioned the fact she’s a cancer survivor in your little article.

    • Yeah, I think going through that definitely gave her some insight, even if it’s just one person’s experience.

    • Amanda, Please read above. Ms. Somers had breast cancer, yes. She had the earliest-EARLIEST form of breast cancer. I know maybe thirty or forty women who have had the same treatment Ms. Somers had. Forgive me, but I hardly put her, and those other women, in the same class of cancer survivor as a later stage cancer victim who has to go through months of grueling chemotherapy–because this thing, if fueled by the right genetic make-up—spreads just like wildfire through the body. She has no credibility. She had a simple lumpectomy, instead of a double mastectomy, and did radiation, instead of needing a bone-marrow transplant, or stem-cells-or suddenly had to fight with a distant metastases to the liver, or brain. Scary sounding to you, maybe, but me, and many like me roll on the floor laughing at what twits these women are, running around with their “Survivor” tee-shirts, thinking they have really been through hell, because their breast “now has a dimple in it” and “the radiation left my breast tender and warm to the touch for six months” Yes, she is a cancer survivor, but she doesn’t have any credibility. Someone who reads the postings on the internet from advanced cancer victims has more credibility–read some, by the way. You will see the difference.

    • Breast Cancer in early stages is curable the majority of the time from what I have read. I have Lung Cancer and have chosen traditional chemotherapy AND radiation and the Holistic approach. Last time I looked Radiation therapy is NOT a holistic approach. They all worked for me.

  • I love how she considers chemotherapy poison but all the fillers she has plumped into her lips and face are perfectly acceptable!!!

  • That was freakin’ hilarious Kelly. I do agree that mentioning she’s a cancer survivor would have been appropriate, but overall really, really great post!

  • Breast cancer, especially when detected early, is a whole different realm of survivability. Pancreatic cancer is usually a death sentence no matter what treatment you go for.

  • Maybe Suzanne is trying to get publicity for her book, and maybe people should just keep their opinions to themselves, but chemotherapy is not particularly effective. There are many articles, meta-analyses in fact, published on the effectiveness (long-term). I’m no pancreatic cancer expert but I do know that when researching the best treatments for my son’s brain tumor I found that in his case chemo was not very effective. Like someone else said, just because the FDA approves something does not mean that it’s the best, or only, treatment that will work. Come to think of it, the three people I know who had cancer all died from complications of chemo and radiation, and were unable to enjoy whatever life they had left because they were stuck in the hospital. Cancer is sad and maybe people should just pick what treatment they want without having to hear everyone else’s criticisms for it. As an aside, DAMN people on here are mean. You don’t have to crucify those with different opinions!

    • Try Johanna Budwig’s Protocol. There is a 90% success rate in curing cancer since 1950’s in Germany when her research began in Quantum Physics. The statistics don’t lie and it’s totally natural. I had two tumors, one in each lung. With chemotherapy, radiation AND holistic diet (Budwig), one tumor in the right lung is currently dead and the other will be removed with surgery making me “cancer free”. I was given 6 mos to live in January 2008. Suzanne Somers mentions this in her book and it works because I am beating Lung Cancer which is almost ALWAYS fatal! It is a fact that Dr’s Medical careers are chiefly funded by pharmaceuticals. In addition, they receive kickbacks for prescribed chemicals for chemotherapy given to patients. This is no secret. They have 6 weeks of nutrition during their medical training. The facts speak for themselves. We must be our own advocates in our Medical care and do what we all think is best and based on knowledge, research and common sense. Dr Keith Block, Oncologist, suggests diet that compliments chemotherapy and believes that in years to come DIET (without animal proteins) will be changed and perscribed as most important and vital along with medical care given by the “traditional Doctors”. Common sense, right?

      • Hi! Even though I don’t give Ms. Somers’ book much credence–she is also trying to make money–she has been an entrepeneuer (did’nt spell it right) since the advent of the ‘Thigh Master” You are, however, talking about some pretty interesting stuff, here, regarding nutrition. We all know that every cancer is different, and I am really glad this regimen is working well for you. I have seen too many people pass away during chemotherapy treatment, and I am really interested to know more about this Budwig lady’s therapy and Dr. Block. I, due to some mitigating circumstances, have been off chemo for six weeks now. It feels like my body is stronger and feels better than it has in six years. I still had tumor growth during my chemotherapy treatment, and I felt like crap. Right now, I feel good, except tor fatigue, and wonder if my tumors are growing, or, somehow, it doesn’t make a difference. I am very confused and frightened. I don’t want any more chemo, but this is a really aggressive form of breast cancer, as I found my tumor over-night, and also, I had a tumor on my spinal cord that paralyzed me (WHILE I was on chemo). At this point, I feel like throwing away all the chemo drugs, and letting my body and diet handle it, but, I am afraid to. Anyone have suggestions?

  • I don’t think that any of us can make the chemo decision for another-including Suzanne Somers. Somers never gave out the details of her pathology report so we have no idea what stage her particular cancer was in, or how aggressive it was.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the worst, and I honestly don’t think PS would have lasted as long as he did without treatment. I am pretty sure he did pursue alternative treatments as well.
Many of the big cancer centers include alternative therapies, and chemo is always your choice. Nobody forces a patient to undergo chemo. They make recommendations.
Bottom line-if you or a loved one is diagnosed, educate yourself and do your research. Get second opinions and ask every question imaginable. Don’t rely on the wisdom of Suzanne Somers.

  • Free speech and opinions are still a freedom we enjoy…that being said, it still should give pause to voice an opinion with the proper knowledge. Alternative cures are readily available to those interested. Also note that “alternative” methods were used for thousands of years with proven results unlike western medicine. Of course one must remember that they alone should be responsible for their own health. Do your own home work or just blindly believe your MD, ND, or the internet. Allopathic medicine only offers symptom relief at best. (with a heavy dose of side effects to sell more meds)Naturopathic medicine offers real cures. You choose your own path. FWIW, over 70% of oncologists refuse chemotherapy due its inabilty to cure, only poisen our bodies. Yes, there are numerous vitamin and supplement pushers selling in-affective pills. It requires hours and hours of research to find the real truth.

  • 1. Suzanne, you are not a doctor, and even if you are, you are not Patrick’s doctor, so STFU. It’s called practicing medicine without a license, and you can be sued for it.
    2. Breast cancer and pancreatic cancer are two different animals entirely. Breast cancer is survivable, at this point, pancreatic cancer is not.
    3. How does Suzanne know what Patrick tried and didn’t try? He was a private man, maybe she should practice being a private woman.
    4. She mentions this now, did she ever try to reach out to him, or is this just another case of hindsight being 20/20?
    5. Maybe Suzanne should concentrate on herself, she looks like a clown. She picked the wrong man to fuck with, Patrick Swayze was phenemonal, she is not and never has been. In fact, all she is is a has been….

  • It is so sad to read/see such ignorance, immaturity and small mindedness. Do yourselves a favor and do a little research before you put you pen to paper or open your mouth. You people have no idea ….you are the same people who think vaccines are great and have not done one ounce of diligence to research them yourself…nor any other thing. You sheep waist your time doing mindless shit and not one minute of your time is spent searching the truth….not what BS the media and institution feed us! All you know is to, watch TV, text, twitter, myspace and save face….fuck facts, reason, scientific method, and diligence….if you think Suzanne Somers and her theories are silly then explain DR. Max Gersons research and finding;

“The Gerson Therapy is a safe, natural treatment developed by Dr. Max Gerson in the 1920’s that uses organic foods, juicing, coffee enemas, detoxification and natural supplements to activate the body’s ability to heal itself. Over the past 60 years, thousands of people have used the Gerson Therapy to recover from so-called “incurable” diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and arthritis.”

    http://www.gerson.org/

WAKE-UP PEOPLE….STOP BELIEVING THE BS WE HAVE BEEN FED THROUGH THE INSTITUTIONS AND MEDIA…YOU NEED TO USE THE INTERNET TO ACCESS ALTERNATIVE MEDIA SOURCES (E.G. INFOWARS.COM, PRISONPLANET.COM, ETC….NOT SITES LIKE THIS)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I can’t believe someone else knows about the Gerson therapy! Anyone who doesn’t know should check out these two movies, A Beautiful Truth and The Gerson Miracle. They will answer a lot of questions, raise new ones, and benefit everyone who watches. If Dr. Max Gerson didn’t cure cancer he wouldn’t have been poisoned TWICE! Curing a disease hurts the profits of the drug companies whos’ only LEGAL obligation is to INCREAE PROFITS FOR SHARE HOLDERS. Big Pharma and the fda and the ftc are putting the screws to the american public, and uncle scam is raking in the profis. Keep on schooling these cattle, Arden!

    • Dear Arden:

the problem is, that many people have spoken in this forum without ever having a personal journey with cancer. These people don’t understand the fear and anger involved with every aspect of every-day life because of this dreadful disease. When I found my lump, I immediately knew what it was. My head spun around and around. I realized, right then, that my whole family’s lives was suddenly going to change. I knew there was a slight chance that it was not cancer, but he biopsy confirmed it the next day. Since that time, we have become broke, when we were doing well before that–even though we have good insurance–I have undergone six years of chemotherapy–which I am sure that on at least one occasion saved my life, from a fast growing tumor on my spine. I am literally sick and tired of being sick and tired. the tumors in my liver and bones are growing, even though I am on chemo, so now they have to change the cocktail, I pray to God every day to go into remission, but I just have to keep battling this wildfire, as it is, as it has been for the past six years. I have studied the Gerson diet, even going so far as to check out the facility just south of the border. Well, that made me more confused, because their positive outcomes seem no greater than anyone else’s. It is odd, however, that the facility, modern, gleaming and Huge, is south of the border. I have to ask “why”? Is it because this works for real, and the FDA cannot get its’ claws into the treatments, and that it won’t be controlled by the U.S. Government. I do know some breast cancer victims that went there, and they are “cured”. They rave about the treatment, but these were women with very early cancers (stage I or 0) who, in this country, would still get on just fine, with a lumpectomy, and maybe some radiation, if the doctors think they need it. That is an outcome as good as the Gerson program. I, on the other hand, am a stage IV, diagnosed at the time of biopsy, and am afraid of taking a chance on something as non-toxic as the Gerson Therapy. Coffee enemas aren’t going to help the two inches of missing rib on my left side. I just don’t buy it. i think, but I am not sure, that the Gerson center, is doing so well, because of the “cure” rates of these early stage cancers, which would be cured anyway in this country using minimal therapy (if any) It certainly didn’t help Linda McCartney, or my dear friend Beth, who had melanoma, and followed the Gerson diet. She would have been just fine, if she had followed an M.D.’s advice two years earlier, and have a surgery to remove the cancer. Instead she went for natural herbs, colonics, and other protocols. She, as a last ditch effort went to M. D. Anderson. They said she would be in perfect health, if she would have had the surgery, as first recommended, She died a couple of years later, at the age of 36. The melanoma had metastasized to her liver, the tumors interferred with the function of her liver. She died while waiting for a donor liver, and she told me that going with naturopathic medicine was the worst mistake of her life.

My big problem here, is that if you don’t know about cancer, you will never know what you will do until you get it. It is all scary, and none of us really trust ANY of the treatments.

Please, if no one has had to ride the cancer “bucking bronco” please don’t assume that we victims don’t study our options and know quite a lot about different treatment options. We know infinitely more than you do, because, you see, OUR LIVES are at stake, here. I personally think that this forum should be for cancer victims and their families, and people that just want to talk about it, to see their writings, and feel like an important blogger should find a less sensitive subject to blog about. I think Ms Somers is a whack job. There is no doctor that would ever describe a cancer as being “full body cancer” There is no phraseology like that in med-speak. They might describe a cancer as being “highly metastas
ized”, or “involving the entire body” or something like that. this makes me wonder more about her credibility. I think if she put in the book some of her actual medical records, or pictures of CT, MRI, Bone, and PET scans, then she could have a chance at proving that she does have a serious cancer. Otherwise, she is , in effect, distributing medical advice to some of the most emotionally vulnerable people in society. Many victims of this disease also suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Did you know this? That is how deeply it affects us.

      • Ms. Darla:
Sorry to say but part of your problem could be that you see yourself as a victim, why not a survivor? I am the spouse/caregiver of someone who has MRCC (metasticized renal cell carcinoma) that is in the liver, adrenal, bone and lung who was given a few weeks to live in October 2008. Through nutrition, supplments, energy work and other alternative approaches, my spouse is still alive and doing well. My spouse is also a survivor of APL leukemia diagnosed in 2006. As the oncologist told us “Whatever you’re doing keep it up because we’ve done all we can.” There are alternatives that work other than slashing, poisoning and burning. My spouse is living proof.

  • You know what’s legitimate? Suzanne Somer’s legitimately looks like Janice from The Muppets. Check it out, the hair, the eyes, the lips…it’s all there!

  • Suzanne is half right
chemo only helps 2 of all cancers.
99 % of medical field would not use chemo them selves
chemo is like giving your self the aids

check out this web site it is not mine I know of at least 4 people that were stage 4 cancer victims and are now cancer free. With Poly MVA
    http://www.polymvasurvivors.com/our_inspiration.html
there are many of out there that don’t know of this and million have been saved but when you hear of people like patrick there is no way to get them to this site.
A doctor from Neveda sent this to me. Only I received it 1 year to late to save my husband . that is a nother traggic story that didn’t have to happen.

  • I’m with Suzanne. Usually chemo is no solution at all. You’re far better off swearing off meat and watching what you eat.

Does anybody really doubt that the medical community is run by people who would rather make money treating your cancer than preventing it?

    • And,Pancho, what kind of cancer are you and your family affected by? I think I missed that part. by the way, Suzanne isn’t trying to make a profit. She is doing this from the goodness from her heart.

  • Of course chemo is a poison. It is meant to poison all the bad cells in your body in the hope of good cells being able to grow. The problem is it also kills everything good in your body too and surviving that is the hope. People ususlly end up with damaged heart, intestines, and kidneys or more. I would go with holistic treatment myself cuz at least I would have some kind of quality of life.
All the hate and attack on Suzanne is just mean spirited. She studies health and nutrition with a passion and knows more than all of these hateful people. Who knows how her statement might have been taken out of context.
Some of you people have a heart problem cuz out of the heart the mouth speaks. You may need a heart clean-up.

    • Right on Donna. Chemo is a poison. It inhibits our bodies ability to heal itself, not helps. Our bodies do have the ability to heal themselves from anything if we know how to properly take care of our bodies. That would be the kind of knowledge that Suzanne seems to have acquired. Natural medicine is based on this knowledge. Natural medicine is all about helping the body heal itself. Our drug companies are only treating symptoms and making big bucks. They never “cure” anything because they are not treating the cause of the illness. If Patrick would have stuck with the natural cures instead of the chemo and other crap I firmly beleive he would have made a full recovery. If I could have told him I would have. Since it’s too late for him I hope you readers will take the message to heart if you are in a situation with a family member or friend. Our bodies can heal themselves of anything if we follow the right path. Natural medicine is regulated too. Legitimate practitions are licensed under the same regulations as your MD. Want to do a little research? Check out a book called “4 Ways to Eat For Your Blood Type”. It all starts there.

    • Donna:

You may say that you will take the holistic approach if ever affected by cancer, but you really never know what you would do until it gets YOU. It got me. The pain I was in from a tumor that grew in my spine rather rapidly –within a week–rendered me in so much pain, I wanted someone to kill me. The pain was like a burning ache from the hips down. Just horrible! It had been slowly getting worse for about a week, but I thought I pulled my back from putting a leaf in the table. I woke up out of my sleep a few nights later, screaming in pain. The ambulance came, and I begged them for pain relief. When I got to the hospital, they gave me a shot of “fenergan” for pain, and immediately started a chemotherapy infusion. I could feel the chemotherapy drugs slowly alleviating the pain, over a period of about 36 hours; the time it took for the chemo to kill the main cancer cells that were pushing on my spinal cord. Please be diligent about taking care of your breasts

  • Treatments are just that, treatments, not cures. Cancer, particularly Pancreatic, Head & Neck, Liver, and Lung Cancers are virtually incurable. Prognosis is rarely promising, and any amount of 2nd/3rd opinions won’t save your ass. Treatments for these visciuos disease occurances are capable of prolonging an individuals’ life, but are far from cure. The quality of that prolonged life rests entirely in the choice of treatment modalities, and the overall health of the patient at time of diagnosis. Preventative Medicine, traditional or alternative is more of a factor than treatment, be it radiation, chemo, or surgical. These are all useful tools, but none can promise cure.
Healthy life choices, diet, exercise, not smoking, are also tools to be considered in fighting cancer. You/we should all be careful not to rush to judgement or criticism, as we, our children, and grand children may very well be facing these same challanges if researches don’t find “cures”. Cures can also be profitable.

  • I’m all for exploring other options when it comes to diseases like that. I’ve had a family friend swear their brother was cured from colon cancer by taking a B vitamin that the FDA has banned in the states, but regardless, no one responds to the same thing the same way and the fact that Swayze survived as long as he did is amazing. Pancreatic cancer is generally the fastest and the most painful and no one can say if he would’ve lived longer without the chemo but odds are slim taking 60+ vitamins a day (no joke) like Somers would’ve kept him alive as long.

Seriously, actors are paid to regurgitate scripted lines and hopefully put some emotion into it (try moving your forehead people, I’ve never yelled at anyone without my face contorting… granted I don’t have Botox), they are not paid to think. They need to realize that most of society doesn’t want to think for themselves and will take most things as fact without question. Please leave the science to the scientists and go back to your spray tans and over priced dresses.

  • Suzanne is absolutely right, PATRICK WAS POISONED, only it was self inflicted, as any half dead smoker victim will tell you. I was at Patrick’s house in the summer of 1984, a week away from the Olympics, and told him straight to his face when he asked someone for a cigarette, “Buddy, maybe now is the time to quit smoking, I feel pretty strong you’re about to cut a budding career short.” He didn’t like what I said and replied, “Well, we all have our vices.” I walked away, maybe that was a mistake on my part.

  • I’ve had many health problems the worst being R Arthritis which has bothered me for 14 years and the doctors have put me on many drugs which then give me other health problems..like a kidney disease, which gave me ten years to live. Then I got breast cancer not only once but twice. First time I only had radiation and said no to chemo. Second time I did both, but at the same time did alternative medicine to. I didn’t loose all my hair like they said I would and didn’t get sick. I’m sure the doctors are still scratching their heads. Also I got rid of the kidney disease and shingles!! Don’t knock alternative until you try it. Doctors aren’t god and don’t know everything.

  • I think Americans have gave millions of dollars to cancer rearch they could care less about finding a cure same treament we have had for years we need peole to speak out for the sick and dieing we all have had family or friends to die from this disease any hope is good thans Suzanne for speaking your mind Terry P.

  • Omg everyone is a f-in expert aren’t they? Bunch of egotists on here. I think I will trust my doctor over Suzanne Sommers OR any of the people on this board…..

  • Deepak Chopra and is just as motivated by the financial yields of the auyurvedic market as Andrew Weil is about alternative medicine and Dean Adell is about Western medicine. Actuaries will tell you that what it comes down to is two factors: case studies, and delivery. My crystal-worhsipping, purple-plate loving, entity-channeling mother loves to say these words: “They’ve done studies!” Who’s they, and who funded the studies? What was the control? How was the data manipulated? Who participated in the population sample. Look, the FDA isn’t G-D, but I’ve seen my nurse practitioner curse out my gyno that he didn’t know jack about women’s or fetal nutrition. I trust Scientific American because they seem to have the balls to denounce even the companies who pay them to advertise below an expose. That’s authority! And good, call; Suzanne does look like a drag queen, and her jewelry is crap. But my dad says she pays the Union musicians scale when she throws parties. I guess that’s good…

  • Dont Believe the Hype

Well, I thought about it, and I realized something–my bad–you may not be a black dude at all. You could be Indo-Pak, or Asian, or Latino, or one of any other cultures that have so rapidly immigrated to this great country. Now you feel like you want to say something bad about white people. I can’t wait for the time that you are in dire need of a white man or woman’s expertise to save your life. That would be a joyous day for me. Because, you and your ilk have a lot of nerve to come here and say anything bad about the white men who wrote the Constitution, welcoming you in. If you are an immigrant, I bet you loved the day that you got your green card. If it was your parents, it is time you make more of an attempt to assimilate, and spend less time being jealous that you are not white.

  • Darla wtf are you talking about? I dont know who u were responding to with ur post but the entire thing was completely malevolent and racist. Learn to assimilate??!!! White men may have written the Constitution but it was a diverse group of people that shaped the country into what it is today. I know that the anonymity of the internet makes people feel comfortable enough to say whatever they want, but the world would be a much better place if u just kept these hateful words to urself. Btw im white (which I’m sure makes a difference to you).

  • Okay, Mike. Did you read what the jerk wrote to set me off? He is bigoted and paranoid. And totally wrong. Read his post again–attacking YOU, the white man. Clinical trials are a blessing to get into, I have been trying to get into one regarding PARP inhibitors for quite some time. The guy has no idea what he is talking about, but he is using this forum to spread his form of hatred for white people, and to expand a broad agenda of “white guilt”. Especially “white male guilt”. The amazing thing is , that you have fallen into this snare, blindly; You probably have some form of continuing education under your belt, and are naive. I bet you are in a certain demographic: raised as a suburban kid, with two Democratic parents. You are from an upper middle class background, resent your parents a little, for having more wealth ,than a common bum who has his hand out ,but has always been able to work ( the current economic situation of the country notwithstanding) because you feel that he is entitled to something from the government. As I said, you are probably at least somewhat educated, because you probably got most of your ideas from your professors, who are very respected on campuses, no matter how plain stupid they are. You are between 23 and 29 years old. Am I right? Please, take a look a his e-mail comments first, THEN look at my rebuttal. Then, as a white man look again at who you are attacking.

I stand behind everything I have said . I have said nothing mean. I have told the truth. Until more people are willing to tell the truth, of all colors, this country will never advance. BTW, what is wrong with suggesting someone learn how to speak properly, take a shower, and hit the streets with the intention of getting a job.—Okay, go ahead and think ” she doesn’t even realize that everything is done over the internet, anymore.” Well, that is the fist assumption that the youth of America are so wrong about. We (The employer) still want, and appreciate a personal appearance, with resume in hand. Again, don’t buy into “white guilt” You will be the first one without a job, and not understanding why, will be happy about it. Odd concept.

  • Lol Darla, you make a whole lot of assumptions. All of which are wrong…..I went back and read that guys post and nothing that he said warranted any of your slandering. Now YOU may think your opinions are valuable and valid but they are quite the opposite. So please stop sharing them with us……
