Love It or Hate It?

Who needs designers and stylists?  The ever-resourceful Cate Blanchett just grabbed an afghan off the back of her couch, wrapped up in it and was ready for her appearance at the Screen Worlds exhibition in Melbourne, Australia.  See?  This is the type of frock I’d like to get Taylor Momsen into!

So, love it or hate it?  Actually, I just want to know if there is any one person willing to claim that they love this thing.

  • My grandma made the exact same afghan. She did not, however, wear it.

Maybe that bump to her head knocked the style part of her brain loose?

  • When I was little (in the ’70s) my mom made me a vest that had one square on the front. It was different shades of pink and white. I think I would still think that was pretty cute. This is too much. Too many squares, too many colors, and what is that ruffle at the cuff?

  • The ruffles are horrendous. And if it was some type of fabric it might actually look pretty nifty. But it does look super comfy. : )

  • I actually like it. I for sure don’t love it but i kinda actually like it. if it had a more similar pattern then i would like it more. but its different so i like it

  • It’s a bit unusual but I like it… or maybe I just feel Cate can do no wrong. One or the other for sure.

  • I love it. LOVE IT. The bloke standing next to her is John Brumby, by the way. He’s the State Premier of Victoria. (I live in Melbourne.) My Nan gave me a rug just like that when I moved out of home, to “keep my legs warm while watching telly.”

Woot. She can do no wrong.

  • I LOVE IT.

I love everything she ever does. However, I find it awesome that she has no shame in wearing things like this or silver metallic suits.

However, I honestly do think she looks badass.

    Love love love.

  • I think those frilly black things..the ruffles.. make the entire ensemble look kinda ridiculous….but then its Cate Blanchett after all…I cant think of any other woman who’ll look better in it than her ~

  • She’s one of the few people in the world who can actually act in such a way that you don’t even realise it’s her until you’re told so…

Maybe she’s in character? and John Brumby is playing the evil old lech who is looking down her knitted tea cosy?

  • I love how it reminds me of coziness and being little.

She’s a great actress, and she rises above any clatter about her clothes. That’s a feat (and i hate to say it, because I am one) for a woman. Good on y’er.

  • Cate Blanchett knitted that entire dress on the car ride over to that event. Great actress; but she doesn’t get enough credit for being a brilliant knitter.

  • That is the ugliest piece of crap I’ve ever seen. The commenters here are usually pretty bright: what is wrong with them on this one? They can all just run over to the Goodwill store and pick out the afghan of their choice. I saw about 50 of them over there last week in an array of colors and designs. They were only a little smelly.

  • The ruffles are bad. But I like the fabric because I crochet afghans… I probably wouldn’t wear them like that. Whoever designed that could have made it cute and fashionable but this one was just a miss.

  • Sorry, even Cate can’t make that work for me. She is wearing every poncho ever crocheted in the 1970s, plus the frilly ruff from everything I owned circa 1989. It might be good for the sofa but not the red carpet.

  • its like an afghan snugli dress! i bet shes comfy and warm, so it looks kind of weird but its fashion. at least its different and i would wear it around the house …maybe not to a movie premier…then again shes been to so many maybe for once she just wanted to feel like she was at home with a nice afghan draped around her.
