2005 Songwriters Hall of Fame

Les Paul, the pioneer of the electric guitar, died today at the age of 94 from complications related to pneumonia.

In addition to developing the first solid-body guitar, he also invented multi-track recording.  This allowed different musicians and artists to record their part of a song without being present at the same time.  Revolutionary, really.

Les Paul guitars are still one of the top sellers with an original 1952 model selling for as much as $250,000.

Paul and his innovations helped shape the sound of music as we know it and hear it today.

Hayden Panettiere

“It’s very, very difficult and people have no idea what they do to peoples’ relationships. They destroy them. The paparazzi and the public. The public wants to read about your personal life, and the paparazzi give it to them by nosing into your personal life and saying things that are just not true and horrible.”

Hayden Pantyline Panettiere blaming the paparazzi for ruining all her relationships.  Because an 18-year-old hooking up with a 30-year-old was destined for such success had it not been for the presence of cameras.

Jon Gosselin

Please, someone stop the bleeding!  This week’s episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 lost another four million viewers this week.  The experts are weighing in on what could possibly be causing this once popular show’s demise.

“I don’t know if the show can make that new transition [from two parents raising eight kids to one parent raising the children],” said Robert J. Thompson, founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University. “It’s like if The Cosby Show, mid-season, suddenly became Married With Children.”

Added Marc Berman, senior television editor at Mediaweek: “Once all of this dies down and Jon and Kate aren’t in the news anymore, this could be a problem for the show. They divorce, they move on with their lives and so do the viewers.”

The Gosselin’s need to call it a day.  Once Kate became nearly unrecognizable and Jon starting hanging out in St. Tropez, their audience (which I suspect was largely comprised of mothers) couldn’t relate to them.  They are no longer the harried parents — a stay-at-home mom and an IT guy –living in a chaotic existence that so many people can identify with.

Seth MacFarlane

Yep, according to Family Guy star Seth MacFarlane, Stewie is conflicted now, but hopefully he’ll come to grips with his truth.  Despite the fact that FG is an animated and therefore fictional show, we should all brace ourselves for the protests that are sure to follow this bombshell outing.

“We had an episode that went all the way to the script phase in which Stewie does come out,” MacFarlane,  the show’s creator, says in the September issue of Playboy magazine. “It had to do with the harassment he took from other kids at school. He ends up going back in time to prevent a passage in Leviticus from being written: ‘Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind. It is an abomination.’

“But we decided it’s better to keep it vague, which makes more sense because he’s a 1-year-old. Ultimately, Stewie will be gay or a very unhappy repressed heterosexual. It also explains why he’s so hellbent on killing [his mother, Lois] and taking over the world: He has a lot of aggression, which comes from confusion and uncertainty about his orientation.”

I only have one thing to say to all the right-wing Bible thumpers that will most assuredly arrive in droves after learning of this immoral, animated character:  What are you doing reading Playboy interviews?

All the Disney kids — The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez — have gathered together to sing “Send It On” in hopes of making saving the planet seem like a cool thing to do.  Because a sofa at the beach is just … cool.  You know, if Jamie-Lynn Spears didn’t effectively end her career by getting knocked up, she so would have been in this video.

Thoughts on this modern-day “We Are The World”?
