America may hate Katherine Heigl, but her husband Josh Kelley has yet to give up on her. The twosome were spotted shopping on Robertson this weekend, alone with Katie’s mom, Nancy.

Katherine was sucking on a lollipop with nary a cigarette in sight. IMHO, she looks like she’s put on a little bit of weight, too. So … maybe she’s quit smoking and the weight gain is a result of that. Or maybe she quit smoking because she’s pregnant and the weight gain is a combination of those two factors. Or maybe I need to stop speculating on people’s weight gain and pregnancies — but then what fun would gossip be?

Here’s some nice news for the day — Amy Winehouse made a surprise appearance at The Specials’ performance at the UK’s V Festival on Saturday night, and you can actually watch her performance without wondering the whole time if she’s going to die mid-note. She’s standing on her own two feet pretty well, and she sounds as good as can be expected. I’m far from convinced that she’s completely better, but this is a nice start. Here’s hopin’ for ya, Ames.

It’s not the resolution I was hoping for, but it’s a resolution. Ryan Jenkins, the VH1 star accused of murdering his wife, model Jasmine Fiore, was found dead in a hotel room in Canada. He hung himself.

Ryan’s crime against his wife was especially brutal — he had extracted her teeth and removed her fingers in an attempt to keep her from being identified. Police eventually ID’d her using the serial numbers on her breasts.

I don’t have much to say here. This is heartbreaking and horrific, and it reveals an aspect of human nature on which I have no grasp.

VH1 immediately pulled the show he starred on, Megan Wants a Millionaire, after he became the prime suspect in Jasmine’s death. I’m pleased with them for making that decision. Here’s hoping we can all stay classy here and not try to profit further on such a fucking horrific tragedy. I’m not even going to run a pic of him here because I can’t find one in which he doesn’t look like a smug and disgusting asshole.

Brad Pitt carries a sumo wrestler while a Department of Eagles tune plays in the background of this new commercial for Japanese cellphone company Softbank. Spike Jonze, who directed the commercial, had said that he wanted to make the actor seem “prissy.” I think he succeeded.

American celebrities will often endorse Japanese products or film commercials that air only in Japan. The companies are either paying them a hefty sum, or they don’t mind pimping themselves out if its for a commercial that will (hopefully) never see the light of day in the U.S.

When I was there, Tommy Lee Jones’ haggard, disapproving face was plastered all over billboards advertising BOSS coffee. Brad Pitt has also done his share of coffee endorsement, although he prefers Roots brand coffee. If you’re interested, you can watch Kiefer Sutherland scream at a train full of Japanese school girls or see California’s current incumbent governor attempt to speak Japanese then fly through outer space in a red and gold tuxedo.

You should definitely watch that last one. Really.

Leonardo DiCaprio in April of 2009

I find this particularly ironic since I saw a trailer for this movie when I went to see District 9 today. (Incidentally, I have never seen more people walk out of the theater during the first 20 minutes of a film than during District 9. But I digress…)

The release date of Leonardo DiCaprio’s new thriller, Shutter Island, has been pushed back from October of this year to February of 2010. Leo was getting ready to head out and promote the Scorsese film when the Paramount pulled the plug.

Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey says, “Our 2009 slate was green-lit in a very different economic climate and as a result we must remain flexible and willing to recalibrate and adapt to a changing environment.

“Leonardo DiCaprio is among the most talented actors working today, and Martin Scorsese is not just one of the world’s most significant filmmakers, but also a personal friend. Following a highly successful 2009, we have every confidence that Shutter Island is a great anchor to lead off our 2010 slate and the shift in date is the best decision for the film (and) the studio.”

Paramount has had some huge Summer box office successes this year with Star Trek, Transformers: Revenge of the Horrible Movie, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. But huge Summer blockbusters require equally huge budgets, and the studio has spent a pretty penny promoting them.

Taylor Swift in London

Taylor Swift pairs a floral headband, sky blue peep toes, and a distressed brown leather satchel with a bright blue and green taffeta silk party dress outside the Radio 1 studios in London.
