Today Gets a Dose of Bush

Presidential (or presidential hopeful) daughters moonlighting as morning talk-show hosts are totally the new Chihuahuas.  On the heels of Meghan McCain being announced as the fill-in host over on The View, Jenna Bush has accepted a part-time position as a Today show correspondent.  Bush, who also works as a teacher in Baltimore, will be covering human interest stories and will be based out of Washington D.C.

I know we have lots of smart and opinionated young Republicans out there and I’d love to hear your thoughts.  What do you think?  Do we even know enough about Jenna Bush, beyond her affinity for underage drinking, to form an opinion?

  • I don’t know enough about her, honestly. And I definitely don’t hold underage drinking against her. She doesn’t seem to demand attention because she’s the former President’s daughter, which is nice. I’ll have to wait and see how she does/what she says before I pass any judgement…

  • Really? I’ve always thought she looks more like Laura.

In any case, she obviously got the job cause of who she is. I will reserve judgment until seeing her in action. Here’s to hoping she doesn’t follow Hasslebeck’s FoxNews-talkingpoints-memorization-dimwitted- footsteps.

    • Look at the girls and their parents together. Jenna has her mother’s face shape but her father’s facial features. Barbara is the opposite. Dad’s face shape, mom’s features. It’s weird.

  • So I suppose you don’t think her work with UNICEF is worth mentioning? Or the book she wrote about a single mother with HIV?

    • I didn’t know she did those and I’m going to have to say most people probably didn’t either.

Everybody is not plotting against her.
They just really haven’t cared about her.

      • It speaks volumes that a big deal is being made of her underage drinking from years ago, when she’s done so much growing up since then. Two minutes of research would have given Wendie material to write something intelligent.

  • underage drinking is such a serious no-no? i know it’s illegal, but come on, i was getting drunk out of my *** when i was 16, and it doesn’t seem to mess up my life. so give her a break, she doesn’t look alcoholic to me. i’m pretty sure the prude writer of this piece was engaged in underage drinking as well.
we’ll see what she has to offer on the show.
and i really hate it when people are being judged on the basis of their family lineage, isn’t it some sort of racism?

    • *rolls eyes* not getting drunk at 16 does not equal prude….sometimes it can mean that you’re busy actually doing something valuable with your time and getting into prestigious colleges, and NOT acting like an immature Gossip Girl character – wannabe.

      • I know PLENTY of people in prestigious colleges and they drank way the fuck more than some other people I know who didn’t even go to college. And drinking underage doesn’t mean you’re a gossip girl wannabe. I drink underage (19 and gasp in college) and we don’t go to fucking clubs and pretend to be socialites. We drink at small parties. That’s what high school and college kids in the real world do. I first drank when I was 15 but the drinking parties started when I was about 13. It’s just what kids do now. Nothing better to do.

      • Key word…”sometimes”. Not everyone who under age drinks wishes they were on Gossip Girl and not everyone who doesn’t is a prude. And anyways, college vs. high school are 2 different things. 18 year olds who are adults vs. 15 year olds who still have a bedtime are two entirely different things.

  • I have no idea what she’s like (besides her family) but I have to say, it’s pretty silly to say someone has an affinity for underage drinking. It seems just about as damning as saying someone has an affinity for staying up late or for consistently driving 10 miles over the speed limit. I don’t know ANYBODY whose drinking experience corresponded with the dictates of the law. Not saying the law is bad, just saying the law is arbitrary, and enough people ignore it that it is pretty moot to point fingers at those who do.

  • I went to college with her at UT at Austin. I didn’t know her personally, but my encounters with her from working in the physics lab and seeing her at the gym were that she was a nice, mild mannered and really just an ok person. She let me take the machine first that we were both waiting for and she always said thank you. As is usually the case, her friends were a different story. They were really bitchy and snobby… more so than regular sorority girls. Anyway, give her a break, she seems like a nice smart person.

  • My mom actually wrote a letter to the Today show when she heard about this. I guess her position will be as an “education correspondent” or something along those lines. My mom was more upset that they would have someone so young with such little experience in the education system act as the go-to source for news about education laws and topics. Then she started raving about no child left behind and if they really want someone to talk about education reform and hot topics then they should try talking to our friends who have been a teachers for decades, many of whom deal with kids with special needs…blah blah blah

I am not exactly sure what her duties will be but if she is going to act as the resident Today show education expert, I’m sorry but I will just have to laugh at that. She is 27 with limited experience in the field, and just because she has “written” 2 books does not make her an education expert IF that is what they were looking for.

      • Except that Presidents tend to surround themselves with experts to help them make decisions. They usually don’t claim to know everything, just how to lead a country towards a brighter future. I am saying that is they are using HER as an expert it is ridiculous.

  • Gag me with a spoon….god I miss that line…okay..its just too soon! I mean her war monger/ retarded father ruined our country and to have to even see his spawn on my television could really make me sick. Yah yah…its not her fault that her father sucks ass more than any other President or person for that matter..but like I said…too soon. Not ready to see that ugly mug…Elizabeth Hasslebeck is bad enough! If her hidious cheek bones were any higher they’d be attached to her forehead…and you can never trust those squinty eyes and thin creepy lips that we had to deal with for the last 8 years!

  • Perhaps her first interview could be with the young boy in Iraq who had both of his arms blown off (for his own good, of course)at the start of one of her father’s international wars of aggression.

  • Why are we even talking about her? You know why she got the position. Just another occurrence of the Media grabbing for attention and the spot light. Her father did more harm to this country than any other person alive today. Lets talk about his dumb ass and get ready for the investigation into his terroristic actions while in the White House. She is just a young woman that will take advantage of every leg up she can get.

  • My guess is opinions are already formed along political lines because thats the way it is these days…..

  • Clean a whore up, she’s still a whore. She spent most of her college years on her knees giving bj’s and being a falling down drunk, now try trotter that one out on the campaign trail and we’ll have more sex photo, sex tape and drug taking action than every before. If her husband married her for a future politician’s wife he was lied to, because she can never be married to anyone who runs for office and not expect her lurid past to come up, I would love to see her try it though.

  • Wow. Would you listen to the horrible things y’all are saying? You know very little about the girl. Her father was the President, that doesn’t make her the same as he. You’ve never spoken to her (with the exception of Mary, who gave quite a nice testimonial), so how in the woooorld do you know anything about her?

Jinxy–for all that whore talk, seems to me you’ve got a guilty conscience. She’s married, is a teacher, lives a quiet life, doesn’t go on about her father being the former President, I don’t see what’s so terrible about her.

Alan–Really??? That soldier VOLUNTEERED to go into the military. Bush didn’t tie him up, poison him, and send him over there. Not saying that what happened to him isn’t terrible, it is, but it is neither Jenna’s fault, nor her plight. Lay off the girl. Attack her father all you want, but the children of officials should be completely off limits. Lay off. She’s not running for office.

  • She has cleaned up well and seems to be an intelligent young lady. She has accomplished more than you would think she would. I know if my father were the Pres I would just hang and mooch off him all the time. Why not? Oh and also regarding No Child Left Behind (horrendous) – it was co-authored by Ted Kennedy and he worked with Bush on getting it passed. You people need to read and do research on your own. The press is stupid and if that is the only place you get your info, then that makes you the same.

  • I couldn’t care less if she’s on Today or not.
Her opinons or no better nor worse than any body else’s.
    Go Jenna!
