I was just browsing Twitter and I noticed that Shanna Moakler posted her condolences to DJ AM’s family and friends. At first I thought that her account must have been hacked, but then a spin over to TMZ showed that apparently it’s the awful truth. Adam Goldstein escaped death when he was in a plane crash with drummer Travis Barker last year, but this morning he was found dead in his NYC apartment. Details of the story are still developing, and we will update you with the news as it comes in. In the meantime, our thoughts are with his family and friends.
UPDATE: According to the NY Post, his death could be drug related. This is especially tragic as AM already beat a crack addiction once before.
MORE UPDATES: TMZ is reporting that AM’s friends did not hear from him for several days prior to his body being discovered by NYFD. One friend stopped by to check on him after not hearing back from him and their knocks at the door were not answered. It was then that friends called the police out of concern.
UPDATE 3: Los Angeles club The Viper Room (formerly owned by Johnny Depp) has posted this memorial on their marquee:
UPDATE 4: The Associated Press has now reported DJ AM’s death. That makes it official.
UPDATE 5: According to TMZ, AM was found around 5 PM EST, face down wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt. Next to his body was a crackpipe. Prescription pills were found in the kitchen. What a terribly sad way for a great man to go.

Is it me, or I’d his life seem pretty ‘Final Destination’ish? He survived the one crash, then another flight he was supposed to be on crashed as well..
My preliminary guess is that when he was in the hospital, he had a relapse due to the medication he was on (I bet high-dose pain killers for the skin grafts he had). He seemed so clean the past few years.
How sad. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy. I bet Nicole and Mandy are beside themselves right now.

Damn. I always thought he was one of the good ones.
I think he was one of the good ones, but that doesn’t make him exempt from tragedy. The events of his past year or so have been so traumatic that anyone would have caved under that pressure. Stack on the fact that he dealt with drug addiction in the past and it’s really understandable. I don’t think all drug addicts are bad people.
I did not mean to say he was any less good because of his drug addiction. I jut wanted to express that I belive he really was a good person.

DJ AM was awesome and a gifted DJ who could actually spin rather then plug in his ipod! He will be missed.

This is sad and all, my prayers go out to his friends and family, but it’s not so surprising when someone’s involved with drugs. It really is the worst way to go.
