August 17, 2009: Tyra Banks pictured on location in Union Square filming for ‘The Tyra Banks Show’ in New York City today.
Of the series, Tyra said, ÒThis season on The Tyra Show weÕre taking it to the next level and getting more real than ever before by encouraging women everywhere to own and rock what theyÕve got and be proud! For the Season 5 premiere, I will be doing just that – no fake hair, IÕm rocking my REAL hair. This will all be going down on September 8, 2009, which weÕre declaring National Real Hair Day! We welcome everyone to go natural with me!Ó

Well, seeing as how almost every female black celebrity wears some form a weave: lacefront wig, regular weave, extensions, braids, I actually think it’s rather funny.
I can’t wait to see this hair of hers she’s always going on about.
Most of the white celebrities wear extensions as well, so race is irrelevant in this case…
Ok, let me explain. In the black community, weaves or any fake hair for that matter are an integral part of the culture. Yes, white female celebrities may also have extensions but believe me when I say it is not as huge of a deal in the white female population/culture, or even a norm.
The black hair business, which includes products like relaxer is a $7 billion a year business, so maybe for a black female this would be interesting or even funny to watch. Because very rarely do you see a Black woman who has not relaxed her hair in the last 3 months or who has braids or weaves.
Why else would HBO fund Chris Rock’s movie “Good Hair” if it wasn’t important or integral to the black community?

is that armpit hair sticking out a little from her shirt? i can’t tell!
I was going to say something about that too, Livia. It is indeed her armpit hair. Maybe it will be an ALL NATURAL ANTM this cycle….lol
I actually really like the idea. I have mixed feelings about Tyra, but she is always trying to get women to love themselves as they are. Maybe when she gets up there sans weave, everyone will take suit. Maybe were looking at au natural coming back. Doubtful, but maybe.
Does this mean she isn’t going to relax it either?
