Michael Douglas’ Son In A Heap O’ Trouble

Cameron Douglas is one of those celebuspawns that I’ve been stalking watching for years.  Even when he was twelve and attended movie premieres with his parents, he looked stoned.  Always.  Stoned.

A few months ago, I read an article in Daily Mail about how Cameron was clean after years of drug arrests and rehab, coming to terms with his often-absent father, and building a movie career.  It appears that his plans derailed.

Cameron was arrested at the Gansevoort Hotel in New York City  — he’s been living there in a room that his dad pays for — on July 28th, as part of a sting operation that was busted open by the DEA.  It seems that the youngest Douglas was the middleman in a plan to transport and sell a half-pound of meth and was “very strung-out” at the time of his arrest.

Now, when you lose half a pound, it’s not even noticeable.  When you are in possession of half a pound of drugs, it’s super serious.  I’d be surprised if he doesn’t actually serve jail time (especially considering his past record).  Addiction sucks.

  • Addiction does really suck.

Now, I don’t really know much about meth, but I do know that half a pound is a lot – but is it enough for the DEA to have a ‘sting’ about?

Aren’t there more serious drug criminals out there making the meth that he was selling? I mean yes – he definietely deserves to get arrested and be in jail but it seems as though he was targeted because well.. he is an easy target.

I just don’t get this Zero tolerance policy. Did anyone see Stephen Colbert last night with the chick getting suspended and almost expelled because she took the Pill at school?

    • 100% agreed Nadine. The zero policy is putting drug users & dealers in jail for much longer then child molesters, sometimes even murders and rapists. How about a zero policy on those convicted of violent crimes? Not saying drug dealers & users don’t need to do jail time, I just think the violent criminals should have stiffer penalties then those who deal in drugs.

  • Ok, so can we now please get heaps of comments NOT talking about what actually happened but rather discussing how he is “unfortunate looking”? Seeing as that’s all people have to say about Rumer Willis I thought it would only be fair.

  • Lot’s of people have parents who travel to work, they are fine. While his father may have been gone, when he wasn’t making movies he was home for extended periods of time too. That’s just a bullshit excuse – daddy didn’t eat dinner with me every night… tough. Meth is highly addictive but this wasn’t a simple drug bust for possession, this is probably going to be a stretch in prison it’s for transporting, sales and distribution. If the feds pick it up he could get 10 years with his past arrests.

His father pays to keep him away from his new family, he’s 30 years old, didn’t finish college, has no job and doesn’t want one either – best thing for him is to cut him loose, and let the chips fall where they may. They’ve tried to help him and so something else needs to happen. Notice his mother isn’t paying for him to stay at a 5 star hotel?

    • It’s hard for any parent, sibling, friend to cut the addict off. But, it seems like addicts need to hit their own rock bottom, whatever that may be, to want to change. Wendie has got it right, “addiction sucks.”

  • Nadine–yeah, a half pound is a lot, but I don’t think that’s the point. The point is that a half pound is what he had on him at the time. If he really was distributing meth, a lot more probably passed through his hands, and a lot more would have later passed through them if the DEA hadn’t conducted the sting. Also, if the hotel had any idea what was going on, they probably called the cops themselves–some dive motel out in Queens isn’t going to call the cops if they suspected one of their tenants has drugs, even a half pound.
