Alice In Wonderland Trailer

The first trailer is out for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.  The fantasy flick with major special effects is set to arrive in theaters March 2010.  Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter are set to star with relative newcomer Mia Wasikowska who will portray the title role.

  • I can’t wait for this movie, but I admit I’m a stickler for details after spending my graduate school career studying Lewis Carroll. The rumors of a romance between Alice and the Mad Hatter I find disturbing (and not in a good way) and I have to point out that they once again mashed Through the Looking-Glass into Wonderland (as did Disney). And why Alice is running around in a 19th century hooker dress is beyond me.

But I love the idea of Helena Bonham-Carter as the Queen of Hearts and Ann Hathaway as the White Queen. I thought the Cheshire Cat kicked ass. And the film in general looks wonderfully creepy.

But it all lost steam for me when Johnny Depp appeared. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Depp, but his Mad Hatter seems so bizarre (in the books he was a madman, not a freak) in an Elijah Wood crossed with a Raptor playing Willie Wonka kinda way.

    • I find myself in complete agreement with jeneria, particularly regarding the romance between Alice and the Mad Hatter, as well as filmakers’ tendency to mash the two books together. I’ve always been a serious fan of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and while I’m very excited to see Tim Burton’s interpretation of the story, this trailer makes me a little apprehensive. It didn’t really blow me away and I have several complaints about the casting of Johnny Depp. I have a funny feeling that he’ll end up taking the Mad Hatter role far off the deep end . . .

      • I know. Tenniel drew the Hatter like a normal person, but one that has gone mad. Bonham-Carter’s Queen of Hearts looks closer to how Tenniel originally illustrated the characters. I don’t know where this strange, alien Hatter came from. And the Hatter was kind of sweet, albeit strange, especially at the trial of the Knave of Hearts (the dude with the eye patch in the trailer, I’m assuming). Anyway, I think this movie runs the risk of being too much Hatter and not enough Alice. It’s Alice’s story, she is the centerpiece of it all.

  • ooo looks good, love tim burton movies, Mia Wasikowska was really good in Defiance im sure she will make a good Alice

  • I am intrigued but feel that the 1985 version of Alice in Wonderland can’t be topped. I agree that Johnny will turn this into his movie……I guess we truly have run out of original ideas!

  • Looks awesome! I just wish we could have gotten a glimpse of Alan Rickman voicing the caterpillar.

7 months is so far away…

  • Actually, does anybody else get a message from this video that says “unsupported format”?

  • I LOVE J.D. and Helena Bonham Carter!!! Is it just me or does Wendie kinda look like her?
