Harry Potter actor Jamie Waylett pled guilty last week to charges of growing marijuana.  In a move that assures me that special celebrity treatment is a practice that exists both here and across the pond, the actor, who could have been sentenced to 14 years, received a punishment of 120 hours of community service.

Apparently you don’t get as harsh a sentence if the drugs you grow are for your own personal use.  Or, if you’re famous, natch.

Yes because when i read this the other day, like on the 19th, I didn’t grasp the whole picture. Thanks for the reprint. FAIL

    Salad dodger.

I think thats the normal sentence for this crime, actually.

How sad. And he’s so good looking, too. He kind of has that “I stay down in the basement all day eating Cheetos and playing X-box” kind of look.

Yup, it is pretty normal… The jails are full, they keep letting out people convicted for stabbings & rapes, they really wouldn’t lock this guy up for 14 years for smoking…
As for teh being famous, I don’t think it has nothing to do with it. I know a handful of nobodys who have gotten away with just community work for drug possesion…

Yeah, it’s less of the ‘celebrity’ status and more of crimes involving cannabis being treated considerably less seriously over here. We didn’t have Nancy Reagan, don’tcherknow!
