Rachel Weisz Calls For Botox Ban

57465781rachelweisz78200990535am

Rachel Weisz, the 39-year-old actress from the Mummy movies spoke out in the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK about her distaste of all things Botox.  “It should be banned for actors, as steroids are for sportsmen.  Acting is all about expression; why would you want to iron out a frown?”  Yeah, that’s a brilliant analogy Rachel, except steroids improve performance and, by your definition, Botox diminishes performance.  Duh.

How about this?  Let’s ban all dumb actresses from wearing dresses that make them look like a spear of asparagus just searching for some hollandaise.  Deal?

  • From my understanding of her quote, she was pointing out the irony of the situation at hand. So it actually was an appropriate analogy. “why would you want to iron out a frown?”. People just THINK that botox is great; they treat it like athletes treat steroids, clinging to them as a means of advancing their success. But Rachel thinks otherwise.

      • Rachel W is gorgeous, talented, and has oodles of style (including this dress!) By the point she makes regarding Botox (and steroids), she proves her common sense and intelligence as well. The hatred in Wendie’s post IS disgusting. What gives, Wendie?

      • I agree. I am getting so sick of her type of “wit.” Like, I don’t know…not ever single post not regarding Bradley Cooper needs to be so bitchy. I mean, saying Mariah sounded bad during the memorial?? She was trying not to cry! Have some sensitivity, Wendie!

  • I thought the quote appropriate; however, I did not find Wendie’s reaction appropriate. I had to check the website to make sure I have not accidently gone to the moron Perez Hilton’s website!

I like the evil beet cause it (usually) isn’t so nasty. Rein it in, Wendie.

    • Agreed. I feel like there was no reason to be nasty. Sometimes there is but this seemed unnecessarily harsh. And I was going to say that I actually LIKE her dress. Weird, I know.

  • So full of hate! Wendie’s posts have limited my visits to this site. I miss Beet.
    I agree with Rachel Weisz.

  • I will never listen to her again because of what she did the the Mummy franchise. The first two movies were basically AWESOME and the only movies my dad, brother and I can agree on. But the third one was TERRIBLE. I mean WTF how are they going to for real replace a main character? geeeeesh.

    • I hardly think it’s her fault for wanting to detach herself from the franchise. Dude, Mummy 3 BLOWS and really, not even Rachel could save it.

Also, her analogy makes sense; both drugs enhance one aspect of performance while diminishing the quality of another.

      • Mummy 3 was horrible, one of the worst films i have seen in a long time. I respect Rachel more for having the sense to turn it down.

  • Jesus. I finally try this site again and there’s this bit. it’s not that it’s mean, though it is. it’s just … not at all funny. or worthwhile
    hmm. like this site now.

  • I agree with you Wendy!! She DOES look like asparagus.

And I honestly think you have brought a LOT to this webiste so keep on trucking!!

  • Let’s watch this idiot do an about face when she doesn’t get offered any more roles because she is too wrinkled. What a tool. She could use a little “help” in the face area anyway.

    • I’m sure there will be roles that call for wrinkly-faced characters… plus, if already wrinkled, it’ll save time and money as there won’t be much need to “artificially-wrinkle” with make-up, no?

  • zomg harsh for sure, but you should all still be nice to Wendie. She’s lovely.

  • Yeah, I try to skip your posts, generally, Wendie because of the forced hatred. Really, what Rachel said makes sense, and her dress is quite lovely.
I started reading this because Beet presented news in a witty and fun way, but all the Wendie posts are just harsh and unnecessarily rude.

  • Normally I love Wendie’s posts, But this one was really pointlessly bitchy and far too harsh- not at all necessary… Save the vitriol for someone who actually deserves it.

    • Me, too. I agree with a ban on botox and with Rachel’s comments about it. Glad to know I can count on her for more moving performances in the future.

  • I am totally against Botox and basically any cosmetic prodecure to change your body. I say don’t F*** with Mother Nature!!!!!!

  • Yeah you, quite the DISS. The quote is appropriate analogy, silly. Please read it again. I love you Evil Beet but this time your SO wrong! :)

  • Her analogy is correct. DUH. Too harsh Wendie.

There doesn’t seem to be too many happy readers after this post.

  • I think it’s hilarious when the commentors take things so seriously and get offended. That’s one of the funniest things about this post. It’s weird how they think Wendie is mean because she’s nowhere near as rough as any person I know in real life. The people in the comments must be the lucky folks who’ve never been friends with girls in high school.

      • no attacking you but i’m guessing you were one of those girls that got made fun of by a group of people, it would explain it.
I think it really is just another form of hate in this post and you know what hate can turn into. no exaggerating but it is like that.

    • oh trust me, i KNOW exactly how cruel teenaged girls can be and wendie reminds me of those nasty junior high school bitches. if you think it’s funny that people don’t like wendy’s unnecessarily bitchy posts you have a really odd sense of humor. there’s nothing funny about this post or its comments. who cares if she’s nowhere near as “rough” as the people you know in real life? that’s not the point. the point is if you’re going to tear some celebrity down you could atleast TRY to be witty about it and make it somewhat entertaining. wendie’s the one acting all offended, like she invented botox or something and is taking rachel’s comments personally.

  • I am just going to ditto what a bunch of people said about her analogy being correct, that she is a great actress (very intelligent, too), and that she looks gorgeous in that dress.

A little bit harsh, there, Wendie. But I do still love reading your commentary!

  • I love your posts! don´t EVER change that style of yours, it is very unique. It´s hilarious how everybody seems to get offended by your commets…they take it so personal

    • My name says it all.
You have had so much negative feed back you have to fucking plant nice comments on your own site.

Why dont you just buy a clue instead of “plant”? Asshole.

      • Oh, look what I just did.

  • I love Wendie. I enjoy her posts and her personal blog as well but I agree that this crossed the line from snarky into spiteful. Rachel Weisz is an Academy Award winning actress and in I think if she has an opinion about acting it should be considered valid, even if it is not what works for everyone.

  • “How about this? Let’s ban all dumb actresses from wearing dresses that make them look like a spear of asparagus just searching for some hollandaise. Deal?”

Poor Wendie, Didn’t Rachel’s comments hit close to home sweetie? When is your next botox injection? Its easy to try to be catty but it takes skill to have some wit and intelligence to make it work and honey, you have no wit or intelligence.

Rachel is right on the money with her comments. i have a friend when had some botox done and she almost ruined her face and had to be taken to the ER because the left side of her face swelled up because of an infection. Botox is like a performance enhancing drug in a way and it has it nasty side affects but some people don’t know went to stop and they end up ruining their face. They should be some kind of regulation for it.

  • I like her. She’s an awesome actress, and that dress is a beautiful color. It perfectly sets off her hair and skin. It looks kind of plain, but then again we don’t have a full body shot either.

  • Rachel Weisz is actually one of the more intelligent actresses. She
graduated from Cambridge with a degree in English.

  • I like the analogy. It makes me think of how ridiculous Nicole Kidman appears in dramatic roles. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Kidman fan…but she just can’t pull off the facial expressions like, say, Jodie Foster can. Her performances are never totally believable for that reason. She’s always a movie star just playing a character as opposed to an actor being a character.

  • the second i saw that dress i thought ‘damn, why couldn’t i find a dress like that to wear to my friend’s wedding?!’ and then i read the post and was put in my place, i guess. then again, i am a vegetarian so maybe i strive to look like veggies? I think the fit, the pattern, the fabric and the color are all amazing on her!

  • i don’t really have an opinion on rachel weisz, but i didn’t think her statement was that ridicule-worthy. it’s not like she’s megan fox.

and the first thing i thought when i saw that picture was damn, where can i find that dress… gorgeous and sets off her coloring really well.

  • how about this? let’s ban all dumb bloggers who post nasty mean judgemental “stories” that really have nothing to do with gossip in the first place! Deal? for the love of god, deal?

  • No, you misinterpreted the quote. Rachel was saying that steroids give an unnatural boost to performance just like botox does to appearance, but while on the outside it may seem to look better, that mask of fakeness just hides the real beauty inside.
Sometimes watching a puny weight-lifter struggle to lift dumbbells or a flaw on somebody’s face is more real and awe-some than if both look infallible, even if by society’s standards it makes them look “weak.”

Even though I don’t agree with her quote and am pro-botox, I think Rachel did a wonderful job expressing her ideas and doing it with her usual elegant charm.

  • Is someone holding down Ms. Weisz and forcing her to have Botox injections? She could have just said that she personally doesn’t like the idea of using Botox, rather than acting all holier-than-thou about it. I’m all about “live and let live.”

To be fair, Rachel may have not said exactly what she meant — or else she doesn’t fully understand Botox. My mom gets Botox injections, but her plastic surgeon is talented and never overdoes it, so she retains her natural expressiveness. Now, OVERUSE (and/or misuse) of Botox is problematic, because it diminishes natural human expression. Maybe this “Botox abuse” is what Rachel really meant, rather than just the occasional use?

I do agree that the dress is highly unflattering. The cut is OK, although I think it would look better without sleeves, but the pattern and the color make me think “draperies.”

    • Acting all holier-than-thou? Rachel is right on the money and i agree with her wholeheartedly. I rather see an actor who can express what he or she is trying to put in their performance than a actor who can’t because their face is stiff.

  • not even perez is this catty. is that why you guys hate him so much? because he’s more like you than you care to admit. if you want to insult and poke fun in a clever way, read lainey gossip or d listed for some pointers.

  • Anyone else think that Jillian sounds dumb? “because he’s more like you than you care to admit”. I don’t think so…

Also – Wendie might need to summer down.

  • You really shouldn’t be giving anyone fashion advice beet. You little tacky redneck you! Also, Botoxes are bad! ;)

  • first time posting on a gossip blog… ever [and i sometimes read Perez and am able to restrain myself from joining his ‘posse’ just to give my opinion on some of his sickest posts…]. so this goes to show how annoying/plain dumb this post came to me [and clearly over 90% of the comments above as well]. i am also only posting in hopes Beet will take notice and reconsider this Wendie person’s place here.
i noticed i visited here less and less after seeing the many wendie posts that slowly began gaining momentum of cockyness and annoyance and less Beet.
i’ve always found Beet’s humour just about right, not crossing the line. clearly, ‘Wendie’, seems to be trying too hard to me, and this post shows that patheticaly. and yes, it does feel very ‘perez’-ish. i mean, c’mon, “duh”? no. wendie, you seem to have tried to establish your blogger personality much too soon.

the dress is gorgeous, not to contradict, just as an opinion. i’d KILL for it; such a lovely shade of green. plus, i’m sure it was picked out by the actress’s styleist, who likely has actual fashionable knowledge about… fashion-y crap.
Weisz’s overall point about botox sounds legit and, whether one opposes the use of it or not, is true. acting is acting- expressions, movement, etc. botox impedes that. not much too it.

    so no, no deal.

  • It was actually a valid analogy, if only Wendie took the time to analyze it. Steroids enhance performance. Botox enhances appearance. I’m sure that was what Rachel was implying and then she went on to talk about the side effects of botox to make her point.

The English are not as stupid as you’d like to think, Wendie.

  • Hey wendie, did Rachel do something to hurt you? Is she not supporting your favorite gay marriage cause? She is a beautiful woman and not in the least bit dumb as you are implying. Dumb would be Megan Fox!

  • Rachel seems like one of the nice people in hollywood.
Also she is a good actress.

    Back off her.

  • Rachel needs to get off her high horse. When actresses who advance in this business due to beautiful looks (yes you Rachel!), it’s patronizing to say that people shouldn’t try to look as good.
