Madonna Hospitalized After Falling from Horse

No, the site isn’t showing old posts from years ago; it’s happened again. Madonna was hospitalized this Saturday after she fell off a horse that was startled by a paparazzo.

“The accident occurred when the horse Madonna was riding was startled by paparazzi who jumped out of the bushes to photograph the singer,” spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg tells E! News. Us Weekly first reported the spill.

The 50-year-old pop icon was released after being treated for “minor injuries and bruises” at a Southampton hospital, says Rosenberg.

A lot of people are suggesting that maybe it’s time Madge hung up her riding boots– and her insurance company probably agrees. In 2005 she broke her collarbone, split three ribs, and fractured her hand when she fell off a horse on her 47th birthday.

But for someone as tenacious as her, I can’t see her giving up that easily. You know the old saying: When you fall off a horse, hire a team of lawyers to appeal the decision in court and get the family of the horse to release media statements saying the horse keeps asking for you and wants to be your daughter.

    • I disagree. Paparazzi endanger their stalkees regularly. I don’t like litigious behavior, but I think that she has a legitimate reason to hold these morons responsible for her injuries.

Eventually some celebrity will be added to the ranks of Princess Diana and die from some car accident or other preventable accident while trying to avoid harassment by people who provoke dangerous or infuriating incidents and then profit by photographing it.

She may be able to stop riding horses, but should she stop driving and walking and running or doing anything in public that could cause her harm if some greedy photographer startles her, causing harm to her or those around her?
Why do legislators fail to create laws to protect people who are in the public eye and become at risk as a result?

    • I disagree. Is she only safe from these parasites on a gated property? Paparazzi endanger their stalkees regularly. I don’t like litigious behavior, but I think that she has a legitimate reason to hold these morons responsible for her injuries.

  • It’s funny that “a lot of people” aren’t suggesting that paparazzi stop jumping out of bushes and scaring people’s horses.
And it’s bullshit to imply that 50 years old is too old to ride a horse.

    • Given that it’s not exactly unusual for a rider to lose control when her horse is startled, I think she has a good civil case against the paps. If they threw a rock at her car to get her to look at them, and the driver subsequently plowed into someone, they’d be liable – jumping out and scaring a horse is the same sort of behavior inasmuch as a reasonable person can foresee that injury is a likely result.

      • Unfortunately being reasonable is not enough. British singer, Lily Allen had her car window smashed, by a paparazzi, she was almost run over by a paparazzi, she almost collided with a bus because of a paparazzi, and most recently, a paparazzi ran into the back of her car, while she was driving. These are good and very valid points, but so far, the best that Lily Allen could do, is file & get a restraining order against 2 London news agencies to keep the paps about 100 yards from her house, and not follow her through the streets, that’s very good but it”s also 3 reasons for reckless endangerment. That still has to be proven in a civil court. It’s hard to prove, but it’s true.

    • UH I thought she was implying that it was time to give up on horses b/c she has been seriously injured by them twice in the last 5 years or so.

Maybe both of us shouldn’t imply so much.

  • Madonna spent her whole entire life courting media attention so it’s kinda hard to feel sorry for her especially since she’s such a twat. Maybe if she stopped adopting african kids and posing half nude the paps would get bored and leave her alone. The more low key celebs seem to be able to do things in private.

    • Your opinion is that she’s a twat. Other peoples’ opinion is that she became world famous at a very young age, by virtue of the force of her personality, and the paparazzi will never leave her alone. Madonna, low key? What world are you living in? She’s not like everyone else, and that doesn’t make her a twat, it’s just who she is.

    • Wow, that is some twisted logic. I’m no Madonna apologist, mind you, but to make it in the entertainment industry, one must develop fans, and there are no fans if you are performing in an empty hall. Where do the fans come from? Publicity.

Yes, she has courted publicity all her professional life. So…that gives the members of the media the right to endanger her? Any reasonable person knows that a spooked horse can injure or even kill the rider. Is she at fault for being on the horse, or are the papparazzi at fault for deliberately frightening her horse?

I don’t care if you think she’s a “twat”. She’s a human being. And even the biggest media whore is entitled to privacy when he/she is on private property.

      • No it doesn’t, but by the same token Madonna isn’t stupid and should be better prepared for such things. Where were her security people? It’s their job to shoo away paps.

      • You are so intent on blaming the victim here, I don’t know if there is anything I can say that will get my point through to you. But I will try one more time, and then I truly give up.

In this scenario, Madonna is the target, and the papparazzi are the “enemy”. She is smart, as you say, and has hired protection from her enemy. By your logic, her protection must be foolproof, at all times, or it is her fault.

In another scenario, the part of Madonna is played by a U.S. serviceperson. The part of the papparazzi is played by enemy soldiers, and the part of Madonna’s security is played by the serviceperson’s unit.

If the U.S. serviceperson, despite the best effort of his/her unit, is injured in the course of duty, would that make him/her stupid and/or at fault? Because that is what you are saying in the Madonna situation.

I am not trying to make you feel silly here, I just really want you to have a little compassion for the celebrities who are hunted to a ridiculous degree, to the point of injury, as is the case here with Madonna. Or to death, as was the case for Princess Diana. Do you still want to say that they deserve whatever they get. Really?

      • Betty: Hey there, wall, can you see past your hatred for this particular celebrity and see the larger picture here?
        Wall:
Betty: Even if it turns out the story is false, does the larger point of privacy and safety make sense to you?
        Wall:
Betty: Do you have anything to add to this discussion?
        Wall: Twat.
        Betty: Sigh.

    • “Maybe if she stopped adopting african kids and posing half nude the paps would get bored and leave her alone.”

WTF does adopting children have to do with paparazzi????

      • She adopts them from Africa for attention. Like they don’t have black kids in London that need homes? She can’t buy one of them? Get a clue, Madonna is a narcissist, everything she does is for attention.

  • This is absurd. A 50-year old is not too old to ride a horse. WTF? Maybe we should buy them canes and send them off to retirement homes on their 1/2 century birthday? This is completely the paparazzi’s fault and I hope she sues the person who clearly crossed the line. Regardless of what you feel about her, to tell HER to stop riding horses b/c of money-hungry paparazzi would just be wrong.

  • I just read that the NY Post is denying that Paparazzi had anything to do with her falling off the horse, while simultaneously promoting their “exclusive pics” of the incident. IRONY?? or just idiots?

  • I guess you give up a lot of things when you become famous… like doing ANYTHING remotely normal!
