Why Carrie Underwood Wouldn’t Survive One Day As An Evil Beet Writer

Carrie Underwood is issuing apologies both to Matthew McConaughey and to her family over her completely Wonder Bread comment made to the star during her American Country Music Awards acceptance speech for Entertainer of the Year.

Carrie Underwood was overwhelmed to have won “Entertainer of the Year” at the American Country Music Awards on Sunday night, but the moment did turn a little mortifying when she made a sexual reference joke to wanting to see Matthew McConaughey’s “boots” in her acceptance speech.

The Texas-born actor presented Underwood with the big award, but before his official duties he entertained the audience with a story on how he and his brother once took a road trip thru Texas to see Dwight Yoakam perform. While there the brothers tried to “pick up” a few ladies by telling them that they made a livin’ exclusively custom-making George Strait’s boots.

“We’re like, ‘Oh yeah. Say, as I a matter of fact, out in the parking lot, in the trunk of our white Corvette, we have the next year’s new edition white ostrich quill George Strait signed series that he’s gonna wear on tour next year.’ And they got pretty excited about that and said, ‘Well, can we see? Can we see? Can we see?'” McConaughey told the audience. “And we obliged … Point of the story is, we got lucky that night. Thank you, George.”

After taking the trophy from McConaughey, a tearful Underwood caused jaws to drop when she said:

“I don’t know what to say. I got nothin’ … I want to see those boots, Matthew.”

Underwood released a statement shortly thereafter.  “I‘m so embarrassed, I totally embarrassed myself. I just blanked.   You want to say something eloquent in a moment like that and I embarrassed myself. I’m sorry Matthew, I’m sorry to my family. I’m totally embarrassed.

Seriously?  Carrie Underwood really believes her lame attempt at being funny was so offensive that it was worthy of making a statement?  She was so mortified that she had to apologize to her family as if she has bestowed scandal upon them?  Anyone even listens when Carrie Underwood speaks?  I’m full of questions this morning.

All I know for sure is this-I’m more inappropriate than that towards my mailman.  I guess I need to call all my relatives and apologize for my actions.  This could take a while.

  • Lol. I thought it was a funny remark. But apologize for it? It really wasn’t that inappropiate. And he started it!

    • You could probably get more money this chick, if she came with a dream house, but don’t take her out of the box, because she’ll go down in value. Can you say cheese?? more like cheesy !!

  • if she felt she misspoke, then it’s maturity that prompted her to apologize.

people who scoff at maturity, now that’s odd. =(

  • It was just an innocent remark I watched theawards and when I saw her say that I laughed. She is just too afraid to get a bad image what so ever!

  • this might seem an arrogant question, but, is the statement, ‘Anyone even listens to Carrie Underwood when she speaks’ all done there? is it missing an ‘as if’, or did it start as one tense and end up as another?

is this some sort of tweeting side effect?

  • As a lifelong blurter of awkwardly and sometimes inappropriately flirty remarks, I have to say this was a pretty decent blurt. I kinda like her for this.

    • No kidding. I feel like I have to stop myself from saying something stupid about every twenty minutes or so. I don’t always succeed, either.

  • The story didn’t really interest me, but the last paragraph surprised a snorting laugh out of me – Thanks, Wendie!

  • umm i watched the show and i didnt see any jaws drop that comment was exagerated dont you think? i did however see everyone laughing including matthew and reba!!haha….if carrie didnt say it reba would have…no aploogies needed from carrie. i think she apologized to her family because she respects her mama and pops and she probably thought that was disrespectful to them and obviously she didnt want to offend them or matthew, she has good morals and i respect that about her. its very nice to see this side of carrie though usually shes so conservative, i like this side of her she’s funny and she looked comfortable up there even though she was nervous as hell, and just for the 4-1-1 i always listen when carrie speaks and so does the millions of fans who follow her…so to answer your question yes i care what she has to say. i also think matthew liked that flirty remark..he’s pretty much married but he’s a man its flattering when a beautifull girl gives a sexy remark right men?…and carrie is taken as well so theres harm done. just innocent jokes from the both of them.

  • On a side note – it takes a little while for comments to appear! Meaning you don’t need to re-post something when you don’t see it right away… although, I’ve been guilty of it a couple times, too.

PS. If you enter your e-mail in posts they get posted in a matter of seconds..woo!

  • i thought it was cute. and why so hard on her? she is a terrific singer and just because you (wendie) may not like her doesnt mean others dont. dummy

    • umm… this probably isn’t the site for you if you get offended when people don’t like the same celebrities as you. lighten up!

    • The motto of the site: Its not personal, its just gossip. Not everyone is going to like her, and that’s fine.

It was funny. Carrie actually looked spontaneous for once. She usually is pretty boring. Why did she have to take it all back with a stupid apology? They had to invent the offensive part so she could apologize.

  • Her acceptance speech was the funniest and most sincere part of the entire night! It is great to see someone up there reacting normally. I am so tired of hearing all the thank yous to all the producers and yahoos I don’t know.

  • Ms. Underwood does’nt have to apologize for her joke to Matthew because
i find the joke cute and funny,if i hear that story from someone i should have said the same thing too, those people whose making it a big deal,
they simply don’t like her and jealous what she have achieved in her
carrier,in fact i find her so sweet and i admire her more when she’d mention Mike Fisher’s name in her speech,no wonder she look very happy these days..YOU DESERVE IT CARRIE AND I WISH YOU MORE
    LUCK !!!!God Bless You!!!

  • it’s part of her charm she’s prettier than she’s probably ever been and getting attention from men.so what.she’s been raised right.the grand ole opry invited her to be a member and that says alot.
