Keira Knightley Does Domestic Violence PSA

I really need to get some European television in my life. My husband recently went on a business trip to Italy. While I was busy losing my mind and making phallic-shaped pancakes, he was in Bologna watching soft core porn on mainstream prime-time tv. How is this possible?

Well, Keira Knightley filmed a public service announcement that will be aired in the UK, detailing the dangers of domestic violence.  It was directed by Joe Wright.  He’s the dude she worked with in Atonement and Pride &  Prejudice.  And truly, this commercial does feel like a mini-movie.  A graphic mini-movie, that is.

If you choose to watch, be advised of its violent nature.  This would never be aired in the United States.  Sigh…we Americans are such delicate little prudes.

  • Holy…S*it. That gave me goosebumps. Something like this NEEDS to be shown in the US. There are too many people that suffer from this kind of crap every day. Wow, I think I like Keira Knightley and her protruding jaw a whole hell of a lot more!

  • thats the kinda stuff that provides a message.

how do we petition to get it shown in the US???

  • Wow…i’m not really a Keira Knightley fan but this did give me chills…its so sad how real it felt:(

Yes…needs to broadcast EVERYWHERE and let everyone know domestic violence is ugly, scary, and very common…

      • Obviously you haven’t pulled your head out of your own ass for long enough to know, it was a joke. I know how to spell, and I also know that his joke (hopefully) was in bad taste, instead of stooping to his level; I made an *obvious* joke. SERIOUSLY, you fucktard.

      • Hey,at least the inside of my ass is still infinitely prettier than your face. And funnier.

      • ew Anonymous. don’t be such a jerk. Don’t listen to them Abby.

God, the commentors have been so mean lately.

      • haha of course it’s a joke idiot. who would actually say “yeah she deserved it?” WHO EVER DESERVES TO BE HIT LIKE THAT. But let’s compare. “die in a fire” sounds way worse than a comment jokingly based on someone’s career. You were way below my level…

  • They need to show this in the US every day! We are way too complacent and quiet when it comes to domestic violence. This shit of I don’t want to get involved needs to fucking stop, like last week.

  • Wow that was really fucked up and disturbing. It’s sickening to think that women (who are usually half the size of their abusers) have to endure shit like that (and even worse) ever day. Sometimes the emotional pain from something like that can rip you apart inside more then the beating itself. I really can’t imagine having to go through that. this definitely needs to be shown in the states. Disturbing visuals are sometimes the most powerful.

  • outFUCKINGstanding. May not be able to show it on tv here, but thank the internet gods we have no trouble passing it around :-D We need more things like this to put into perspective serious issues that people ignore or are in denial about

  • wow.. that almost made me cry a bit. keira Knightly is a great actress… yeah I wish they would show this in the US but it wont happen

  • My speakers broke a week or so ago so I watched that without any sound & it was still chilling!
Like everyone else said they won’t but should play that here.

  • Domestic violence is a huge problem. Good on Keira Knightly for jumping on board with this issue.

It’s a huge problem the world over, particularly where I’m from.

A movie was made here a while ago that really confronted this issue, it was disturbing and shocking but also very much a true representation of what a violent domestic situation can be.

You may have seen this before but if you haven’t be warned this is quite graphic (and has by the sounds of it will probably never be screened on USA TV).

Here’s hoping that more people become aware that this sort of thing is happening and hopefully we can do something to stop it.

  • Everyone’s right when they say this could NEVER been shown in the US. Violence for a good cause is banned but sex for promotion of a certain product or sales is A-OK here in good ol’ America! But BTW I’m watching the Daily 10 on E! and they just showed this commercial so hopefully this will reach more people.

  • She really is awesome in anything she does…

& This should be shown, we don’t have to wait for networks to show it or someone else to do it, grab the link and send it & post it on all your social media outlets you belong to, & email contacts…power of the people has been given back, no need to wait on someone else!

  • I just want to add that the comment “2 women die every week”, it’s just in UK. In France, where I live, 2 women die from domestic violence every three days, and 2 children die every day. In USA, a new study shows that 1/4 of american women are subjected to domestic violences.
Sure, this video should be shown !

  • “He was in Bologna watching soft core porn on mainstream prime-time tv. How is this possible?”. Italy has and always will play on a league of its own. Really.

  • Whoa, fuck! That was hardcore, man. On that note: Paging Rihana, paging Rihana!

Seriously though re Megan’s comment. Hell no, they’ll never show anything this edgy up here! People in NY are already freaking the fuck out over the anti smoking add of the little kid crying in the bus station. We may try to talk the talk north of the 49th…..but the advertising culture is far to conservative up here for this. And what a damned shame. This is top notch consious advertising.

  • Hi there! You know I was searching for a travel agent who will provide me with travel plans. But this site helped me. They arranged a great travel plan for my vacation. I enjoyed my vacation in a great hotel and I got a great flight. I liked it. Thanks. . relaciones amistad
