R.I.P. Jade Goody

large_british_reality_star_jane_goody_faces_death_on_camera_2

I apologize in advance for busting in amidst Kelly’s debut weekend — which she is handling brilliantly — but I happen to be awake at 3 am to receive this breaking and very sad news:

British reality TV star Jade Goody has finally lost her battle with cervical cancer. She died, at the age of 27, in her home early Sunday morning.

We didn’t cover the story very much around here, because something about sensationalizing a cancer death didn’t sit right with me. I understand why Jade accepted a great deal of publicity surrounding her terminal diagnosis, and I don’t judge her one bit for doing everything in her power to leave her sons in a financially stable position. I just didn’t feel right covering it. A friend asked me about it just the other day, about why I never wrote about her. “I’ll write about her when she dies,” I said at the time.

I turn 27 on Tuesday. I cannot imagine going through everything Jade’s gone through at this age, and I have a great deal of respect for the grace and strength she showed throughout the process. Jade went from being a 20-year-old reality TV laughingstock to a model of death with dignity in less than a decade. It’s a funny thing, this life.

R.I.P., kiddo.

  • It’s “Jade”. What a post to un-spellcheck. But yeah, good vibes to her little boys. Terrible for them.

  • 27 is way too young to die. I feel really sad, despite all the bad press she’s gotten for her career and personal life I think she was a true fighter and did the absolute best to ensure her kids had a secure future. I also hope her hubby takes damn good care of the little ones.

again this is just so sad. Too many people are dying at too young an age =(

  • I didn’t notice the typo. She wrote this at 3am kids!

Happy birthday for Tuesday Beet. I’m going to make sure tomorrow I just spend one day appreciating what I’ve got.

  • Another reason to have all her last days surrounded in publicity was to raise awareness of cervical cancer amoung young women. With her efforts the age of your first smear tests in England will fall from 25 to 20, something a lot of people have been campaigning for years about…..worth writing about that? Sensationalising or saving young girls?

  • Í wouldnt judge her. She was a great mother for leaving her boys with as much as she could before she passed. And as Jenny said awareness is so important! Good for England that the test now will be taken at 20. Here in Sweden the first is at 23.

And OMG people grow up, a simple misspelling isnt something you all need to point out, one is more then enough.

    RIP

  • she is/was an idiot. she didnt even want to tell her kids that she was in the final phases of dying. now that they know, i bet that just finding out is more traumatic for them now. she was a racist pig who wont be missed.

    • ur the fuking pig wot the fuck would u no about telling ur own children at such a young age that u wil die and will no longer be here. ppl like you shud die of a horrible disease cus u wudnt be sadly missed and that for sure. so comment on sumthink u no cus no 1 cares about you opinion u yankee pig

    • Its people like you that make the world a much worse off place than it could be. You are obviously someone who is of low inteligence and lacks the insight to what jade actually did for other people. You should be pittied. She wasn’t racist at all she just made one mistake that got her bad publicity. People like you are the racist ones who blame everything on race issues. Get a life and do us all a favour and keep your negative comments to yourself. Lets hope you never suffer the same way as she did.

      • ‘people like you are the racist ones who blame everything on race issues.’ Remember mate she was actually racist and extremely ignorant…just because she had 2 kids and died doesn’t make her a saint..she was horrible individual in life.

    • what do u mean she’s an idiot if you was her and you had kids it will be hard for u to tell them what there only 3 and 4 EASYER SAID THEN DONE. R.I.P JADE GOODY X

  • and this is why perezhilton RULES, cus he doesn’t believe in censorship, and we ppl in the U.S.A love Dave Matthews, and don’t give a crap of what or how you say it. Your site sucks.

    • Uhm… I’m in the u.s.a and have probably only ever met 2 people who like DMB… Maybe because I choose not to associate with those who do.
People who like DMB are for the most part annoying.

      • It’s very sweet that you like that shitty band, kid. I know you think you’re speaking for us, but please don’t. Dave Matthews Band sucks taut, hairy balls. And um, nobody is forcing you onto our little community, so baiiiii baiiiiii!

  • Whatever her name was, Id never heard of her and most people outside the UK and India had never heard of her. I think she is informous for being informous. THAT said….whatever she may be, who ever she is I totally admire her for what she has done over the last couple of months. Making woman aware that they need checkups on a regular basis, making people aware that sometimes we just dont know what is around the corner. I find her terribly brave,(well let me rephrase that) I did find her brave, gutsy, full of life though that was fading rapidly and overall admirable. Yes she brought her posona out more in the open to raise money for her childrens future…..good on her. BRAVO Jade where ever you are. And may you rest in peace.

  • I’m going for a smear test and HPV Vaccine this Wednesday, because this story has really shocked me so much :(

  • Ugh why do 500 people feel it necessary to correct something after one person has already done so.. I mean I get the few that occurred around the same time, but the one a half hour later? That’s a bit much.

  • Seriously worth adding: get a pap smear, gals, and get them yearly because cervical cancer when caught early enough isn’t generally anything like this fatal.

Man, some of your commenters are complete idiots and crass assholes.

  • just like to say what an amazingly brave woman and mother shes a inspiration to me. alot of people find the last few months hard to digest, how can she make money off her illness? well i think anyone else in that position would honestly do the same thing, make sure their children would want for nothing. to think you had the likes of jordan slagging her off for it and saying was she really ill when infact shes worse than anyone for making money off things that are seen as imoral. her kids. simple as, her son was born ill she s made money off him she parades them on tv in what is seen as a freak show in my eyes her kids see and hear way too much. what jade has been pushin since her diagnosis is for other young women to get checked out so that they dont have to go through with what she has and so many other women. she should be proud of everything shes achieved, she was a fab mum and a really funny and entertaining person. i wish her children and family all the very best for the future, and jade rest in peace sweet heart you deserve it now after such a battle xxxx

    • Good on you: dont have TV not for years but she died bravely…….she did the best for her sons….as a former press photographer I know how the media works…it ‘aint all real
      Peace

  • Another reason to vaccinate yourself and your daughters against HPV. I am not sure if her cancer was caused by HPV but HPV is the main cervical cancer causing disease. Please, Please, Please ask your doctor about gardicel for yourself and your daughters!!! This is way to sad. RIP Jade!

  • So what she’s died like so many other young people and children come to that, looks like a hard boiled egg on a coat i shall not miss her arrogant cocky ways goody bye.

    • ur a pathectic bitch u need to spend your time doing sumthink worth doing and stp slaggin ppl of who cant defend themselves you just wana get on ur knees and pray somethink as traggic as this does not happen to u or ur family

  • I cannot believe she died of cervical cancer, I thought that was one of the few cancers that was highly curable? I guess it must have went undetected for a really long time. Poor thing, no one should leave this earth so young. R.I.P.

  • R.I.P Jade you will be greatly missed

and to those who are being mean about her:
I think you have chose those most inappropriate time to do this and no matter what you feel towards her then you should keep your comments to yourself. Out of respect to her and her family. What if this had happened to someone you loved??

  • As a survivor or cervical cancer (aged 39 now – LUCKY ME), I cannot commend this young woman enough for her courage and her dignity. She was a flawed human being – as we all are – but I would rather have had the opportunity to spend one day in her company, than one second in some of the posters on this blog. Just be glad it wasn’t you, your mother, your sister, your dearest friend, who had to deal with all that she had. Honestly, some of you catty women make me sick! Count your blessings. You could be next. Would you want people to hurt your family as I’m sure this is destroying hers?

Blessings to you and yours, Jade. Rest in peace!

  • Jade’s publicization of her battle with cervical cancer allowed the rate of women getting checked for HPV and getting pap smears to RISE! CNN reported it as the “Goody effect”.

Just goes to show…u can change the whole world through your actions good or bad…her struggle could potentially save the lives of many others..

sad story though…was following it for a long time. RIP Jade.

  • I cannot understand anyone not having respect for Jade. I can only imagine some of the feelings she went through over the past months, it must have been awful.
Love her or not you have to hold up your hat to her. She has done so much to make people aware of this dreadful cancer.
goodbye Jade, I am so sorry you lost your battle

    • Idiot people are harboring a hateful grudge against her because of her so-called “racism”. I checked out the clip of her alleged racist comment on youtube, it was much ado about NOTHING. The poor girl was raised by drug addict parents and had virtually no education, she just didn’t know any better. These same morons will post hateful shit against Don Imus when he dies too.

  • ‘4.45am annonymous’ u worded that very well! People may not have liked her always, but what she’s done to raise awareness is amazing! And I’m glad the age is being lowered! I was told I’m too young (at 21) for a smear, but after seeing how absolutely quick Jade’s cancer took over I am adament I’m getting that test! She was diagnosed just 6 months ago!!
And also about the ‘typo’ its her NAME, she at least deserves to have her name correct (not even spelt wrong its a completely different name)! And yea Beet didn’t do it on purpose so that’s not against her, its just out of respect her name should be correct! God bless her wherever she is, and God bless those boys, Jeff, her mum and Jack!xx

  • RIP Jade. Your efforts to raise the public’s awareness of cervical cancer was inspiring.

@Abbi ~ People who don’t like DMB tend to be half-witted underacheivers.

    • People who DO like DMB are either half-witted stoners or tree-hugging college students who think they can save the world by lighting incense and getting drunk at every stupid outdoor show their beloved band holds. Ugh.

The band hasn’t made a cd in god knows how long, how many times can you really play the same crap over and over again? It’s like beating a dead horse. And you nitwits just keep coming back for more.

    • For God Sakes People…let the poor woman RIP and show some respect …. she did well on setting up her children for the future (any other Mother would do the same); she was brave & courageous with educating and promoting all WOMAN to get their tests, she has obviously done good in more ways than one. I am appalled at the cruelty expressed in several of these feeds from both the USA & UK alike… I’m not sure if it is generational or if people have just lost their sense of dignity, respect and sympathy for other human beings. It’s quite sad to comptemplate so many have lost these basic human characteristics; it’s either that or just plain & simple immaturity.

  • For one, I’d like to say I’m sorry that this world lost another young women to Cancer. And secondly, I love DMB, and for those of you that don’t, sorry that you feel that way.

  • It is absolutely disgusting how Christians are fighting the vaccine for cervical cancer because they somehow think their daughters will become sexually active. This vaccine is supposed to prevent 7 out of 10 cases of cervical cancer and they want to play games with their children’s lives?

The other thing that people constantly fight is circumcision in boys. They refer to it as barbaric. This is completely idiotic. In Africa tribes that circumcise have a much lower rate of Aids. It is also believed that circumcision helps lower the risk of cervical cancer in their female partners.

  • leave her alone she is a nice girl yerh she as done stuff in the past but its not like uve done anything horrible an i feell sorry for the hole family an for jades 2 sons R.I.P jade well all miss u xxxxxxxxx

  • @ donkey punch – that’s funny, because i was just reading an article about an AIDS study conducted in 77 countries a couple of years ago. NIH has backed circumcision as a deterrent to AIDS but in general the jury is still out. the theory seems to be that it may help reduce the occurence in women but not in bi or gay men. also, with africa it is hard to know because there are so many prostitutes (who always have a much higher rate of AIDS), so many myths around AIDS, so many gay men who will not admit it, and so little condom use. many people there do not go bet treatment, and don’t want to talk to health workers because of the stigma, so that makes it hard to get an accurate assessment. in any case, no health organization is relying on circumcision as a deterrent to either AIDS or cervical cancer. condoms are still the official deterrent.
as for cervical canceer i hadn’t heard about the religious right not wanting to vaccinate their daughters…that is just stupid.

  • Jade i do feel sorry for her family for going through the pain of some1 dying of cervical cancer. my nan dyed of cervical cancer a few months ago but i think its disgraceful that she has to go out to the world and make a whole load of fuss bout her disease. lets say if one of you people out there was gonna die of cervical cancer and u went to the press they would probably tell you to “go away ur not famous so theres no pont in talking” which is absolutly disgraceful. i feel sorry for every1 with cancer and thik its a horrible disease but jade just made a whole load of fuss bout it but still
    R.I.P

  • Of course it’s sad that any young woman and mother should die at this age, but any sane person must see that the real tragedy is the hubris (to all the semi-illiterates who have written here: look it up) surrounding this woman. Have we totally lost any sense of proportion in dealing with life?

The media created a “celebrity” out of this loud, bigoted, uncouth, uneducated and unintelligible woman, and the vaccuous and great unwashed masses couldn’t get enough of it. The greater sadness for us as a society is the fact there are idiots out there saying that they want their children to be “just like Jade”. You just have to despair about what we have come to as a nation.

  • FOR ALL YOU HATING ON JADE GOODY
GET A LIFE EVERYONE MAKE MISTAKES IN OUR LIFES AND I AM SURE U HAVN’T SHE WAS GOIN THOUGH WITH A LOT SO IF YOU AINT GO NUFFIN NICE TO SAY KEEP UR STIPID RUDE COMMENTS TO UR DAM SELF

    R.I.P JADE GOODY X

    MISSED BY EVERYONE ! X

  • i cant beleave what i am reading there 2 coments i was reading and they should be ashamed of them selfs.. jade rip was a caring mum who loved her boys .. like the boys i have lost my perents from cancer. rip jade xxxx

  • I’m from Australia and I was watching her last days with my mum waiting for updates on many websites. I just turned 28 and my mum and I are very close and we felt a little sad at the reality of Jade’s soon-to-be passing, and we put out our prayers during the time for her mother, loved ones and children.

It was very hard to see a charismatic, feisty, bubbly and lovable girl change so dramatically. She so happily enjoyed her time (I believe so!) here and now proudly looks down amongst her beautiful children. She has definitely left an imprint in everybody’s hearts, whether people were fans or not.

I respect your decision to not want to write about her when she was sick, it’s not definitely appropriate for the ‘latest goss segment’, so to speak. But thanks for writing a beautiful Rest In Peace for Jade.

    RIP Jade Goody… xoxox

  • A whole load of fuss about a disease? WTF…. her fuss has saved millions of lives by raising awareness and getting people to go out and get tested. Cervical Cancer is highly curable if detected early, if not then you have little chance of surival. I’m glad she had the balls to go public instead of sheltering it from others and as for not telling her sons the whole truth…. thats the best thing she could have done – kids associate death at that age with fear and dread, they have been left believing her mum is sat on a shining star looking down on her…. Grow up you infintile idiots and i really hope one day no bad comes to you. She had the chance to make a difference and she has and she had chance to say her good byes, many people dont! We all have our opinion but dont be vile about someone who cant defend her self… as Jade said “i cant be liked by everyone, if i was i would be boring” fair one Jade…. out spoken, blunt and gorgeous – not racist!
