Even The Immortal Undead Need Stylish Thermals & Hoodies

Twilight DVD launch party at kitson

Beverly Hills Boutique Kitson hosted a Twilight DVD and apparel launch party this Saturday, with stars of the movie in attendance. Robert Pattinson couldn’t be there because he’s too busy writing terrible poetry and desperately hitting on ladies via Twitter. Not really. Although he could be.

Only 200 tickets were sold to the event, which probably consisted of standing around in line for a few hours and shelling out $75  for an overpriced t-shirt or hoodie with the movie’s logo emblazoned on the front– exactly what I’d expect from a “launch” event whose advertisement looks like something a 14-year-old whipped up in MS paint for their MySpace page.  That’s exactly  what the apparel line they’re launching will consist of– hoodies, thermals, and t-shirts with the movie’s logo printed all over them. C- for creativity.  I’d rather have Rachelle Lefevre’s dress.

Have any of you actually read those books or seen the movie? My inner bitch is dying to talk so much smack about them, but I’ll reserve judgment until I actually read the things. I used to crack on Harry Potter until I accidentally picked up Philosopher’s Stone and ended up reading the whole thing in a single night.

  • I just watched the movie the other day to see what all the hype was about and I couldn’t get into it. It was pretty lame, actually. Then again, I’m not a 15 year old girl.

  • Love the books (it satisfies my inner teenybopper)… hate the movie. I’ve noticed that’s the norm. If you read the books, you are quite dissatisfied with the movie. If not, apparently the movie is ‘fan-fucking-tastic’.

That being said… the things I would do to Kellan Lutz. *Sigh*

  • You’re doing great Kelly! Keep it up :-)

To answer your post…the books are okay, and that’s being generous. To be honest, they are poorly written, the conversations contrived and the main character is insufferable. Stephen King said it best. Stephenie Meyer is not a good writer. But it’s one of those things where you don’t really care about what is going on, you just want to know the end, what happens finally.

Which is why I kept at it. You’ll have to suffer through pages of Bella’s knees giving away all the time, crumbling under the force of Edward’s god-like beauty…I’m not kidding. It happens at least 16 times in the first book alone.

The movie was okay. Looked kinda cheap at times. Especially when they zoomed up on Robert Pattinson’s face and you could see the outline of the contacts he was wearing. His eyes change to the colour gold when he’s not “hungry”

Read the books, they are interesting but very vain and shallow at times. Nothing compared to Harry Potter, and anyone who believes otherwise needs a piping hot glass of Bitch Please.

    • Agree completely! I thought the books were so-so but kept reading for mere morbid curiousity, I had to know how it ended. Personally I loved the 2nd book and have high hopes for the 2nd movie. Agree with your thoughts on the movie too. I feel like if a bigger studio had got ahold of Twilight it might have come off better.

Twilight has nothing on harry potter and that comes from a fan of both.

  • Twilight is awful. This post was hilarious. The difference between harry potter and twilight is that twilight is essentially a romance novel for teenagers (if i’m going to be reading a romance novel i don’t want any of this virginal g rated shit… i want hardcore). Harry potter was more like an actiony adventurey type deal.

    • I agree with you. Kelly’s doing great! Keep it up :-)

    • Girl! I said the same thing to my friends. I was like guys we are in our 20s if I wanna read romance I want some hardcore *%$#$%# not this 5 books just to kiss BS.

  • I’m a 30 year old mom who read the books and saw the movie and loved them both. I have a lot of friends (all female actually) in my age range who loved them both too. Sorry I can’t satisfy your inner bitch by dissing them for you.

    • Me too Caro. I think that we’ve started to settle into the grim reality of a boring existence by our thirties, so the slightest bit of tingle is enough to get us excited. That’s my theory, at least. Also, all of my girlfriends are Baptist’s who wouldn’t read the hard stuff if they could.

Nonetheless, I liked it in spite of the fact that it was ridiculous crap.

  • Back when I liked Twilight, I picked up a Twilight hoodie in Forks Washington, when I went on vacation there (er, we didn’t go on vacation in Forks, we just passed by Forks). It was only about 20 dollars. I wish I got another hoodie though, it says something like the “Fang Club”

  • I’ve seen the movie 7 times and read all the books 3 times =D

It’s pretty much my favorite thing in the world right now.

  • Apart from you (Kelly) being a bit more sarcastic than Sasha – you still rock! I like your posts and yes – I’ve read the books n watched the movie. I agree with almost everybody – they ain’t so good ALTHOUGH they are catchy because the characters are very vividly described in places so if you have wild imagination some of them may become your true love:)).

  • I think that the books are captivating in their own way, but aren’t very well-written. No main characters die (making the story less realistic) and the plot seems to go in circles to nowhere. The main conflict is the question of whether or not Bella will become a vampire. It just seems too fan fiction-y to me.

    • I havent read the books or seen the movies but um, arent they about vampires? How is anything that happens in a book about vampires too unrealistic? If you didnt want to read a book that was too fantasy fiction-y, you probably shouldnt have chose this one.

      • It’s about vegetarian vampires. That sparkle like diamonds in the sunlight. And one human girl, who every other vampire in the world wants to kill… because she smells good. When it comes to vampires, sure: you should expect “out there”… but the things in these books are outright ridiculous.

  • Well, at first when everybody was obsessed with the books I told myself I was not going to read them because I will not succumb to what everyone else was doing. But then the movie came out and my friend dragged me to it, and I liked it. So I read Twilight and pretty much LOVED it. So I will eventually read the other ones. And I also went out today and bought twilight. Whatever. Don’t judge. I’m a 17 year old American girl. I want my own Edward Cullen. But I’m definitely not one of those people who sat on the mall floor for three hours till midnight to get a twilight dvd that I pre-ordered. And I’m definitely not obsessed with Edward Cullen. It’s just fun to get excited about stupid things that make you happy. =]

    • High-Friggin-Five.
      I feel the same way.
In the beginning i was like “omg vampires come on guys how old are we?” and my best friend started reading it so i thought why not?
I fell in love :) i thought the books were great and my friends and i actually even ditched school to go see the movie. Twice. Woo tomorrows future!
I agree with you about not being obsessed but just simply liking it. Is it that hard to believe that people like a movie with a cast full of GORGOUS people? no. Superficial? yeah. But so what. we’re girls. get over it.

  • I bought the Harry Potter Philosophers Stone for my daughter, one day I picked it up because I couldn’t find anything else to read.. and was hooked. Whether you ‘truly’ like Twilight (the book, I hear the movie is a disappointment) depends whether you are 16 vs. 36. If you’re young, you can fall in love with the “Heroes”, if you are 36 you’ll be like… “That’s an okay story, I’m sure I would have enjoyed it more 20 years ago..”

You’re posts are fine (and trust me I’m one of the resident writing critics), welcome and keep up the good work =)

  • The books are pretty poorly written, but so EASY to read that it just feels like your brain is absorbing whatever is in the book sans effort. A lady came up to me in the airport and saw me reading Twilight and was so eager to hear what I thought about it. I said “Extremely childish, it is a book for a layman”….needless to say she walked off unimpressed.

Though the way they idolize Edward Cullen made me have this huge girlish crush on Robert Pattinson now….and i’m 24! I guess we never let go of our inner teeny bopper.

  • I don’t see where the comparison from twlight and harry potter comes from. Is it just because Rob Pattison was in both of them?? if so, it TOTALLY makes them the same thing… or not.

  • I like the movie, love the books. They were just an easy read that came together really well in my imagination. If you like deeper stories normally, wait until you get a cold or the flu, lay on the couch and start reading twilight then. Some of the actors in the movie lacked talent, so it’s frustrating to watch in certain parts.
    Kelly, you’re doing good.
Anyone- if you’re over 16 and I see you in public, wearing a ‘twilight’ shirt, I’m going to laugh quietly at you, to myself. Mostly.

  • Kelly – you’re awesome!
The books are badly written, but the storyline is interesting and keeps you reading from beginning of the first book to the last. Though, it can be a bit over the top. ( Well, I think I’ll have to admit that I am a 16 year old girl, so of course I loved the movie for all the obvious reasons)

Stephanie’s wrighting isn’t very good, and not nearly half as good as J.K. But still. The books are quite enjoyable.

  • Kelly- I had a similar Harry Potter experience but it was when I picked up Goblet of Fire and had to extend my annual leave.

The Potter movies were don’t shine a light on the books, I’ve got Twilight on my bedstand awaiting pre-movie viewing judgement. I’ll let you know.

  • Twilight… oh, dear god. The movie was meh at best, but the books? HORRIFYING. HORRIBLY HORRIBLY HORRIFYING. Leaving aside the semi-abusive relationship that is the focus, there is a fine line between not enough detail and WAY TOO MUCH detail that Stephanie Meyer sprinted across, describing stupid things with a ridiculous amount of detail, and no relevance to the plot.

The last book isn’t as bad as the first three… well, plotwise, it’s nine thousand times worse, but the comedic value is priceless. It’s like Ms. Meyer gave up any semblance of not making fun of her own characters.

  • Kelly: Your posts are redundant and don’t fit in with the tone of this blog. Omg smash Twilight because it’s popular and because you haven’t actually done any real research on it or even bothered to read the books! Way to start out the first work day with a shot of creativity. Bash or don’t bash, I hope your future here is half as long as Soleil’s stay. Although comparing you with her is like… oh hey! comparing a moldy bitter piece of trash with someone who actually did this job well and had the ability to move on to better things.

    • Does it seem strange to you that you are one of only a couple people who feel that way? She is exactly the voice of this blog. She is witty beyond compare. The fact that you post anonymously just says that you are either not here enough to have a voice for this blog, or are too much of a wuss to own up to your opinion. Either way, you negated yourself.

  • I love the Twilight series but the last 3 books are way better than the first one. The movie IS a bit disappointing. Hopefully they get better cause i plan on seeing ’em all. I’m Team Jacob all the way, the “Edward in all his painfully beautiful glory” does get a tad old… And i’m not aware of the philosopers stone but i did like the sorcerers stone : ) Welcome Kelly!!! Nice blogs, good times : )

  • I have read all the books and loved them. The movie was not the best I have ever seen but I am a die hard Twilight fan. As for Harry Potter, who cares. Don’t even try to compare the two. Plus if you haven’t read the books then don’t judge. I don’t really want your opinion on something you know nothing about.
With any hope you will be gone soon enough as it is.

  • I got about 20 pages into the first book. Then I put the book down to go Google Stephenie Meyer to see if English was, in fact, her first language. That is how poor the writing is.

  • I think the Harry Potter comparison comes from the fact that the generation of kids reading Twilight are the same ones that became enamored with Harry Potter. It’s the next big “It” book for that generation. Why that’s the case I can’t really say. I’ve read both series. The Harry Potter books I loved. They were interesting and well-written with very well-developed characters. Twilight, well, the writing sucked. Bella, the main character, whines incessantly just like most teen-aged girls I know. She has a hugely unhealthy attitude toward love, which is also modeled by tons of teen-aged girls. I can see why the books appeal to their demographic, but they are crap.

If I were 13-16 when I read them I probably would have thought they were the best thing ever. However, I’m a 31 year old mother. I thought they were a bit ridiculous. The only reason I kept reading them is because I’ve been stuck on strict bed rest for the past 5 weeks for a high-risk pregnancy. I don’t have much else to do. If that weren’t the case, I don’t imagine I would have finished the first one.

  • Kelly, I am really enjoying your posts so far!

As for twilight, I thought it was poorly written, and poorly conceived. This being said, I read all four books and could not put them down while doing so. I have no idea what it is about them that makes you want to keep reading, but it is certainly effective. I have to say, as well, that the twilight series has gotten so many young people to actually READ! My sister is twelve, and she hated reading. Being an English major, I tried SO many ways to get her to start, and nothing worked until I lent her my copy of Twilight. She finished all four of the books in like, a week. Now, she reads so much more often, and not just Twilight. So I think that although Stephanie Meyer didn’t exactly produce the best work in terms of writing, she deserves kudos for getting young people to engage in reading again.

  • Stephanie Meyer goes ON AND ON AND ON AND ON about how beautiful Edward Cullen is. Thats basically what the books are about. And then we get to learn a little about some werewolf who has a really high body temperature…which is unlike the vampires who have low body temperatures. And Bella is clutz. And boring. And plain. But some how a gorgeous guy falls in love with her JUST cause she smells good. And then this team of raging vampires with a ridiculous name are trying to kill her for the same reason.

    Overall the books suck BECAUSE:

The plot is totally unplanned…Stephenie Meyer didn’t even plan it out…she just dreamt it up.

The woman can use up 3 chapters talkin about Edward Cullens face.

She so copied the concept of the movie Underworld…which came out in 2001 I believe..

The main character is annoying and dimwitted.

    Therfore…Harry Potter kicks vampire ass.

  • My opinion…..
Read all the books they were ok .The movie sucked it really dragged – the actors could have been better . It might have been a more interesting movie with different actors, they were just going through the motions . I know that most of them were playing vampires, which are undead creatures but they could have added a littlle life to their acting.
The Harry Potter series has Twilight beat hands down with both the books and the movies

  • Yeah, twilight is crap. Even Robert Pattinson said SMeyer is sort of mad, she believes herself to be Bella, and its like the books are her “personal fantasy diary” that got published. She cant write and these books are overrated. I suppose a majority of the fans are tween girls or their mothers.

  • Edward sparkles, for God’s sakes. What’s the worst that could happen if he was seen at school in the sun? They’d think he’d gotten glitter on him or something and laugh. And if his family was all seen together sparkling, people would think they’d had a damn sparkle fight.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood kicks Twilight’s sparkly ass.

  • Personally… I didnt like nor hate the movie… it was okay… but NOT great… I did however read the books… and I must say I didnt go all crazy about it ’till I read the second one, NEW MOON… and the way Stephenie Meyer narrated the part when the party 4 Bella goes all wrong, it just gave an adrenaline rush…..

But what really… almost, if not it did… made my eyes watery, was the way she was narrating Bella’s feelings when Edward left her… Call me crazy/dramatic/dumb/woman … But if u had in your life that kinda of pain, its almost impossible 2 describe it. In just a few lines, She made me feel all the pain of a HeartBreak…
But thats just me… Maybe I was just way into the book

    Au revoir.

  • i have a secret obsession with twilight that my bffs and i share. its shameful and we totally had a dvd party last night. at this point was last year i was absolutely disgusted by twilight fandom and swore id never be like that… yeah now i have twilight parties and read twilight blogs religiously. my only solace is that im not alone at 23 with this obsession. haha.

i read the books first and thought the movie kinda sucked, but its one of those so bad its good things i think. i have higher hopes for the rest. i think they suffered from a low budget and a crazy and crappy director.

  • Sorcerer’s Stone…. not Philosopher’s Stone. I originally took it as a joke in Kelly’s post, but then noticed in some of the comments that people copied it. Really? How do you people talk about books if you don’t even know the titles? Good Job Kelly! Keep up the good work! Loving it so far. :)

  • I love the books (and the movie) I probably love the movie because I read the books afterwards. You should totally read the books though. Its a really sweet lovestory, the kind about finding your soulmate and blablabla what we all look for, right?!

  • I have to admit… I’ve been obsessed with the Twilight series since the books first came out, before I knew they had any type of popularity. I suppose it’s my guilty pleasure, because I can understand why some would hate it. It’s certainly not for everyone. But I love it nonetheless. And so I want to enjoy the movie, but after reading Twilight so many times I just can’t stomach it no matter how hard I try. The acting is terrible, the movie looks low-budget in at least a few scenes, and I feel like a good amount of detail from the book was left out. I know you can’t possibly put an entire book of detail into a movie, but even just some of it might’ve made the movie a little more worth watching.
