The Simpsons are about to make history.  They just picked up a two-year renewal which will make The Simpsons the longest running series in primetime.  Ever.

What show holds the record as of today?  Do you know?  Hint:  it was on-air for twenty years.

Answer after the jump.

Gunsmoke!

oh, i thought it was going to be “Seventh Heaven”, but I guess that only felt like twenty years.

  3. Assie says:

Gunsmoke? Seriously? I would have thought it was like The Young and the Restless or one of those other soap operas.

I never caught on either. I never liked it, But then again, I don’t know one male who doesn’t not like it.

Anyone? Any dudes who do NOT like it to set me straight?

It was likable! but it lost its edge. Time Magazine named Homer Simpson the second most lovable cartoon character of the 21 century. I could see that! Who was the first…? answer after the Jump!

  7. Beet Czar says:

Hasn’t been relevant or funny in a long time; get the record then go please.

  8. Demoness says:

How could they possibly come up with another 2 years worth of material? The writers have done every possible angle! Unless the kids finally grow up?!

  10. FFS says:

It may be old and tired, but at its WORST The Simpsons is still better than Two and A Half Men.

When it came on, I was closer in age to the kids. Now I’m almost Marge’s age.

Yes, it’s gone downhill over the last few years and there’s been some episodes where I’ve just stopped watching it but I really don’t know what else to do with myself on Sunday nights. It’s like when I’m home during the day. Come 2:00, I still feel the urge to watch Another World.

I HATE cartoons. If I want to see immature male entertainment I can just come here and read Donkey Punch’s demented musings.

  13. Judy says:

I love the Simpsons and Two and a Half Men.

    What the hell is Gunsmoke?
I have to agree that it’s been a long time since The Simpsons was relevant or new, but I still enjoy it. I’m curious why so many commentors here label it “male” entertainment. What would qualify as “female” entertainment? I’m a chick, and I dig animation and ridiculous, silly humor, as well as more cerebral fare.

ok, 10-15 years ago the show was pretty funny. I haven;’t watched it lately, but I’m sure they are going to run out of ideas soon.
