Kate Winslet Saw It Coming

E! unearthed this footage from Kate Winslet’s 2005 appearance on the British comedy series Extras. In it, Kate jokes about doing a Holocaust film just for the Oscar.

“I don’t think we need another film about the Holocaust, do we?” her character version of herself says. “It’s like, how many have there been? We get it. It was grim. Move on. No, I’m doing it because I’ve noticed that if you do a film about the Holocaust, [you’re] guaranteed an Oscar. I’ve been nominated four times—never won. The whole world is going, ‘Why hasn’t Winslet won one?’ That’s it. That’s why I’m doing it. Schindler’s bloody List. The Pianist. Oscars coming out of their ass!”

Kate won her first Oscar last night for her portrayal of Nazi guard Hanna Schmitz in The Reader.

Yeah, it’s a slow news day.

Day after the Oscars always is.

  • I don’t think Kate Winslet has said ‘ass’ in her entire life, but anyway that’s probably my favourite Extras ever.

  • Since Ricky Gervais writes Extras it makes their banter at the Golden Globes make a lot more sense…

And even funnier since no one got it…

    :-)

  • Ahhh Extras. Genius.
I swear it’s the best thing I’ve seen some actors/actresses in, i.e Orlando Bloom and Daniel Radcliff, look there ones up sooooooo funny

  • I totally forgot about that scene. How funny! And for you guys that don’t know, Extras is pretty freaking fantastic. You should netflix it. I looove Ricky Gervais so much!

And Kate was hysterical in this one.

Oh yeah! miss malice– the Orlando Bloom one was amazing… so was Daniel Radcliff…. lololol and Ben Stiller!

sigh. I wanna watch it now!

  • That scene was hilarious! It was the reason Ricky Gervais made that crack at the Golden Globes about telling Kate that Holocaust films equal awards. I forgot that many people haven’t seen Extras and probably didn’t get his reference. Definitely check it out if you haven’t seen it.

  • Even if you don’t want to watch the whole series, watch teh Kate Winslet phonesex bit.

    It is gold.

  • You know really, the comedy behind that is a little nasty. What it is saying is that Hollywood is run by Jews and that if you make a movie about the Holocaust they will reward you with an Oscar.
