In the thumbnails find: Amanda Bynes and the world’s worst extensions, Laura Dern looking like a trashier version of Tonya Harding (honestly! she looks awful!!!), Penelope Cruz and some seriously horrible lighting, Angela Bassett looking pregnant when she probably isn’t, Kristen Bell showing off her ass, Elizabeth Banks, Eva Longoria Parker, Emile Hirsch with some very tragic facial hair, Katy Perry in cheap lingerie, Kate Beckinsale, Taraji Henson, Anne Hathaway and more!

Seriously this red carpet was kind of a disaster.

If I had to pick a winner I’d give it to Evan Rachel Wood, and Kristen Bell and Elizabeth Banks looked good, but otherwise it was just kind of awful (Angelina and Brad excluded, of course).

Sarah Silverman, who I love and feel is a comedic genius, really needs to let up on this ugly duckling thing. It’s gone too far. She looked like a homeless crackwhore on the red carpet for the Critics Choice Awards. Listen, Sarah, you don’t have to buy into the standard definition of beauty, but you also don’t have to go out of your way to look awful. You’re a very pretty girl! Stop this insanity! Your bubbi would kvetch!

Evan Rachel Wood at Critics Choice Awards Pictures Photos

For the first time in her whole red carpet life, Evan Rachel Wood doesn’t look like a trampy Dita Von Teese wannabe.

In fact, she looked stunning at the Critics Choice Awards.

Dress is gorgeous, but, most importantly, hair and makeup suit her perfectly. She doesn’t look like a Dita rip-off, she looks like the beautiful young woman that she is deep under all that crazy.

Keep this stylist, Rachel!

I once saw Suze Orman lecture live, at a women’s event in California. She was very loud and sometimes condescing, and, on occasion, saying things I disagreed with, but, all in all, this is sound financial advice for the average woman.

And now she’s giving it away for free.

The entirety of her new book, Suze Orman’s 2009 Action Plan, is available on Oprah’s site, for free download.

I have now completed my reading of page one, and I already want to smack Suze Orman up-side the head but only after (and before) I vomit.

In the first paragraph of the book she talks to me like I’m an idiot.

And then the rest of the book she uses words that I don’t know.

This woman’s appeal eludes me. But it’s nice, I guess, that she’s trying to make this financial world palatable for women. We’re such fragile silly creatures who can’t possibly be expected, as adults, to know how to manage our finances responsibly. Actually, I think I’ve nailed it. I think this is why Suze Orman bothers me. Because she speaks to these adult women who haven’t a clue about how to make a financially responsible decision. And maybe what I’m angry at is the education system that handed high-school diplomas to these now-adult 18-year-olds with absolutely no grasp on the credit markets in the U.S. economy or how one should best save and invest their money. Like, would it be okay if our high schools replaced the section on the literature of the Middle Ages with, say, this stuff? Because, like, yes, it’s important to have a broad liberal arts education, but it’s also important to, ya know, have a populace who can side-step things like the enormous La Brea Tar Pit of our current economy.

Anyway.

Book’s worth a read. Some good stuff in there. And it’s free.

Don’t worry, though, she’ll be doing speaking engagements all over the country after this, and those won’t be quite so free.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

angelina jolie

Could anyone possibly look more gorgeous and in love than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at the Critics Choice Awards on Thursday??

I think not.

I have to say though, Angelina is skinny skinny skinny and I feel like her malnourishment is making her age faster. She’s only 33 years old!! Can you believe that? I feel like she looks much older. Maybe she’s just wise beyond her years … or maybe her body’s having trouble regenerating skin cells because she’s starving.
