Basically, Slumdog Millionaire and Benjamin Button were the big names, and Heath Ledger scored a Best Supporting nod for his Dark Knight performance (on the anniversary of his death), although The Dark Knight was not nominated for Best Picture.

Michelle Obama Inaugural Ball Gown Pictures Photos

LOL-tastic!

Michelle Obama’s dress on inauguration night did not go over well with most of you.

The designer, Jason Wu — who didn’t even know Michelle would be wearing his design until he stepped out in it! — was previously an unknown in the fashion industry. In fact, his most notable achievement prior to this had been designing clothing for a line of high-end dolls in the image of celebrity tranny RuPaul. Sounds more like a Project Runway challenge than a career!

“I really didn’t know she’d be wearing it until I saw her on TV last night, just like everyone else,” he told Teen Vogue.

“I dropped everything when she walked out — and, yes, I did cry a little bit.

“It’s an incredible moment for me.”

Wu was perhaps best known for creating a range of RuPaul dolls for top-end retailer Integrity Toys, with some of his creations selling for up to $300.

Just goes to show that your life can change completely overnight!

Jason is the hottest thing in the fashion world right now!

Jessica Alba may be happy about our new President, but she’s sure having a hard time showing it.

At the inaugural ball in DC she attended, this was the closest Jessica got to smiling for a photo. Looks like more of a smirk.

Why can’t she ever look happy? If you don’t want to be famous, Jess, stop making all those crappy movies and we’ll try to forget about you ASAP.

File this under People Who Are Having a Worse Day Than You:

A 20-year-old model who was a finalist to represent Brazil in the Miss World contest has had her hands and feet amputated after contracting a severe urinary infection.

Mariana Bridi da Costa was sedated in a hospital in Serra, in Brazil’s southeastern state of Espirito Santo, and on artificial respiration following the procedures, according to local media reports.

Bridi was diagnosed with an infection by the Pseudomonas aeroginosa bacterium, which can often prove fatal. Septicemia set in in her limbs, cutting off circulation and forcing doctors to amputate.

Her boyfriend, Thiago Simoes, told the G1 news website that Bridi fell ill on December 30, but was initially misdiagnosed with kidney stones.

The infection quickly spread, causing her to go back to hospital for tests that revealed her condition. Surgeons had to act to remove her damaged hands and feet.

How awful!

Hopefully she survives this terrible ordeal!

How does one contract such a serious urinary infection??? And what can I do to prevent it from happening to me???

Thanks Anthony!

Here’s a first look at the home Brangelina will be renting on Long Island while she films Edwin A. Salt.

It’s a 48-acre waterfront estate named Sassafras in the Lloyd Neck harbor region of Long Island’s North Shore. The couple will be renting the property through mid-summer while Jolie shoots. The main house is 22,000 square feet, and the Tudor-inspired property has two helipads, a private dock, and an 11-bedroom staff house. The mansion has been on the market for an asking price of $60M.

An 11-bedroom staff house!

What could they possibly need all that space for?

What could anyone possibly need all that space for?

I could start a small university out of that building! Hell, we may as well just move the United Nations there!

Sarah Silverman Inauguration Pictures Photos

Listen, I give her credit for kinda-sorta trying, and not intentionally looking like a total hobo for the entirety of the pre-inauguration festivities she attended in D.C., but this dress is ill-fitting and looks cheap. It also really needed a necklace. Sarah, you are soooo successful these days. Would it be SO HARD for you to hire a stylist for events like this?
