Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, John Updike has died of lung cancer at the age of 76.

Updike’s  most notable works included the Rabbit series and The Witches of Eastwick.  His final work, My Father’s Tears and Other Stories, is scheduled for release June 2nd.

There is really no more appropriate time to cite one of his more famous passages :  “The great thing about the dead, they make space.”

  • John Irving was a literary genius, one of a rarified small group of writers now living worldwide, he was truly a great writer. Did you know he won not just one but two separate Pulitzers for literature, for his Rabbit books? The guy was a genius with the written word.

76 isn’t too bad, though; I myself would like to live forever if I could remain healthy and lucid the whole time, but if that can’t be arranged, I’ll be cool with reaching 80 at the very least.

rest well Mr Irving, you fucking genius writer, you beautiful mind, you artist who gave this world stories and books which will live forever. Thanks for them all, and rest well, Sir…

  • Updike, not Irving, damn. I’m confusing him with the other great writer Irving. I hope I haven’t hexed the poor guy – Irving that is. John Irving’s not dead yet!

    Sorry ’bout that, Mr Updike.
