Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Fish Boy Is Pissed

Okay, guys.  I really have every plan of letting this go after this post.  Seriously, Jeremy Piven is just such a big, fat, fucking liar that I need to share that sentiment every time the opportunity presents itself.

Piv’s publicist released a statement regarding the pending grievance filed against Jeremy for his departure from the Broadway play Speed The Plow.  It’s so long; You can read it in it’s entirety here.  The gist:

The claims made by the producers of Speed-the-Plow are absurd and outrageous. Mr. Piven’s serious medical condition has been well documented by multiple physicians. He withdrew from the play due to medical necessity on the advice of his doctors, after he was hospitalized and warned by his physicians that enforced rest was necessary in order to avoid serious medical problems, including a heart attack. His symptoms included extreme fatigue, spacial problems, difficulty remembering his lines, difficulty maintaining his balance, and an alarmingly low resting heart rate. Mr. Piven followed his doctors’ advice, although his forced withdrawal from the show was an enormous personal disappointment since it was a life-long dream to perform on Broadway.

And because prayer is answered, the video above was emailed to me today.  It was made by the National Fisheries Institute as a rebuttal to Jeremy Piven’s ridiculous claim.

Whew.  Okay, thank you for listening.  I think I’m over it now.

    • Many people feel that he is an egocentric tool and full time jerk. And this is both in L.A. and New York who have so many to choose from. It’s been going on for years, so the bar should be too low for him to crawl under, but nooooo!

  • even if he’s lying about the whole thing, at least he made an effort. when i call in sick for work i don’t expect my co-workers to spend the next two weeks bitching about my fake sickness.

  • I guess I have no reference for whether or not he’s a complete ass, so I don’t get why everyone feels this is so impossible.

However, I do wonder about his timeline of stopping the fish-eating five months ago. Whatever…he’s got all the blood work to back up his story in court I assume, so this should end soon.

  • Maybe if he didn’t whine about it on television people wouldn’t make fun of him. Now he’s just drawing more attention to his “illness”. Which sounds very fake to me, and when you have enough money, you can get any doctor to say what you want them to say.

  • Well, for one thing, the play’s ticket sales have taken a big hit since Piven dropped out.

The other thing is, if he’s so flipping ill then why do we see photos of him going out places? I mean, come on dude, stay home a little – even his pal Markie Mark was smirking on the red carpet about it.

  • The fish industry made the video? Ya, I trust that source (sarcasm). Lots of money is on the line.

He is great on entourage so fuck you all.

    • He’s great in all of the characters that he plays. Thanks for taking up for him, but he doesnt’ give a fuck about you. He’s a star, D.P.

      • Really? Thanks for telling me that. All along I thought he was only acting on the television for me. I thought he cared! (heartbroken).

  • I do know that pregnant women shouldn’t eat fish because of the risk of mercury poisoning. I also agree with the previous poster that the fish people have a lot riding on this too, so of course there going to try and cast doubt on his story. And seriously, if you were coming to come up with an excuse wouldn’t you try and do something a little more plausible? That’s just me…

  • why are people hating on him? I love him. and Donkey Punch, I COMPLETELY agree with you. I love Entourage.

the fish people are stupid. Mercury poisoning is super rare, but it does happen. yeah he was a regular at a bar. wWwwWWOOOOOWwwwwW. Of course he sounds like a jerk. He is defending himself because all these bitches keep throwing a fit about it. Going out during the week to movie premiers and out with friends is completely different from running around singing and dancing on a stage.

idk why fish people are so pissed. its not like people are going to stop eating fish because Jeremy Piven stops.

even if he is lying who the fuck cares.

    • it’s more that the fish industry is already getting hit hard by lack of fish because of over-fishing, eutrophication, pollution, dead zones, etc. the companies are expending far too much energy to find and catch fish, but they can’t make up the cost of their effort. their energy return on investment is less than 1, but fishing companies are still able to exist because of oil subsidies. a publicized story like this may mean (if people believe piven) that even less fish will be bought, leading more quickly to the demise of the fishing industry.

  • hey, everyone has their first. maybe it is the first time that someone suffered poisoning from eating commercial food. Please don’t hate him. I love him.. He’s a good actor. If he lied, then who cares? i mean it’s showbiz right.

  • The only thing I remember him from is the Ellen show. And That Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker movie.

Thats it. Maybe he wanted to be back in the real spotlight? *Shrugs*

    • Think that’s why I’m having a hard time hating on him – Ellen trusted him! C’mooon. Or..maybe she has the dirt? In which case she should spill it, like, yesterday.

  • Illness is a tricky subject… sounds like he has the bloodwork to back him up. Who’s to say if he’s lying, not all illnesses are that physically apparent, except if you have gangrene and end up losing an arm.

And I’m a big fan of his as well!

  • Well, I’m thinking the people earning a living on the play he bailed on (from actors to stagehands) – which is, indeed, now tanking so there’s some props for Piven fans – and those in the fish industry, including all the seafood restaurants, all care if he’s lying.

If he’s lying, he very selfishly doesn’t care who he hurts. And Lord knows he still has the energy to party & interview & walk the red carpet. Since the play has sued him, the courts will decide but he gives me a real douchebag vibe.

  • I love Jeremy Piven, I’m having a hard time buying the “mercury poisoning” story, but regardless, I don’t think people should be calling him names like this. He’s a good actor and I really believe broadway was his dream..there are much worse people in Hollywood to pick on.

  • i love jeremy piven and entourage. i dont get what the big deal is either. many other actors are assholes too, and this doesnt happen. i could see it more if piven had a reputation for being a slacker who didnt come to work and always had excuses.

  • God…

I think my beef with him stems from the fact that he can’t stop talking about how it was “his dreeeeaaaaam” to be on Broadway. Yeah, dude, that’s the dream of a lot of us, and I’ve seen actors who could certainly be considered as talented, if not more, than him, struggle through shows with fevers of above 100 degrees, or throwing up every time they leave the stage because they’re doing what they love and couldn’t dream of quitting. Ever. For anything.

There’s an expression. “Actors don’t get sick.” This in part comes from the fact that actors literally can’t get sick because it’s at a great expense to productions, usually (and this: case and point– the producers had to flail about to find a replacement for him that would garner as much attention), but it also comes from the fact that actors who are invested as he claims to be don’t LET themselves get sick. It frustrates me that because he comes from a generation in Hollywood where partying is so prevalent he considers himself entitled. In New York, onstage especially, it’s almost a code of honor that when you’re in production, the show is what comes first. Again, this might not be the case for rich movie stars, but I can’t even remember the last time I read about a Broadway performer who indulges in unhealthy activities as much as many celebrities do these days. When I’m in production, I stop doing anything that could compromise my health and therefore jeopardize the production that so many have put so much effort into. And it frustrates me that he seems to have broken this unspoken code that exists on the stage. I don’t know if I’m being unfortunately biased and idealistic because I feel like he’s somehow besmirched the honor of the stage performer… Maybe this isn’t justified, but it infuriates me that he can say here that he was taking care of himself and not staying out late, blah, blah, when really there are so many reports of him calling no end to his partying ways. It’s one thing for him to say, “Oh, this was my dream and I hate that I had to leave!” and it’s another thing for him to actually demonstrate that attitude in reality. It just adds salt to the wound that, like people have said above, he’s been seen in perfect health at so many Hollywood events lately. That just reads to me as him purely thumbing his nose at a production he didn’t seem to be devoted to, after all.

Okay, wow. I went on a bit of an unexpected tirade there. tl;dr, seriously.

    • Great tirade and completely on target. In theater, you do NOT do this. Not to the cast, the crew, the producers or the audience, particularly when you are the “name” with a major part. You go to the producer and tell them you are ill and everyone pitches in to find a way to work around it, but you do not quit during the run if you still have all of your limbs. That is why people are pissed.

  • i like piven as an actor, but i cant bear to hear him bs for this long….

though i don’t think anything i say will compete with the essay above me

  • He was the money draw and this was a ‘special’ deal that he HAD to do … real nasty whim of him to bolt and pretend he’s deadly ill after all the effort and money spent to get him up there on broadway where so many want to be..

  • Seriously? To think I used to respect this guy as an actor and wanted to see the play because of him… This whole thing is really low. Come on party boy! Anyone seen him at the Golden Globes? Didn’t look sick to me.
By the way, fish boy, brilliant name!!
And one last thing, who the hell told him to eat sushi everyday anyways?!?!

  • Actually it sounds like he has Fibro Myalgia and is stuck in the Doctors-Spewing-Bullshit stage. I wouldn’t be surprised if he falls apart whenever he is under stress and just gets worse with time. People need explanations for why they are sick and doctors are supposed to know everything.
Anyone who wants to rag on me about people faking chronic illness – I would trade you the last 15 years of my life for just 2 weeks of yours. Still think I’m faking?
