“The only story is that drugs are bad and they will kill you – you will become a prostitute, a rapist or a dealer. But that’s not true. I know lots of people who take cocaine three nights a week and get up and go to work. But we never hear that side of the story. I wish people wouldn’t sensationalise it. Some people are just bad at taking drugs.”

Lily Allen, who has always been completely responsible about her drug and alcohol consumption, in a controversial interview that’s pissed off a great deal of the U.K.

  • She look awesome and I think she’s doing a great job fighting off the media and doing her own thing.

    • Or, we could just doubt, the validity of the article! This is false information! Because the ”’ARTICLE” POSED”” a question about Lily Allen”s song Everyone’s at it, which is an ‘ANTI DRUG song, and then it used the quote (They’re quote not hers) I know lots of people that use coke and get up to go to work, and they’re o.k. That quote was made up by Miranda Sawyer, of Observer music monthly magazine, after Sawyer read the quote, I’m not saying I’ll never do drugs again, which Sawyer included in her article after reading it in Paper Magazine, which was also a false quote. Some time ago last year, Lily Allen spoke with N.M.E. Magazine, and she was quoted for saying the word GAK (English Slang for cocaine) Then N.M.E. reported that to the tabloids, and she was angry, (rightfully so) since then people have spread rumors that she has a drug problem, BUT>>> she doesn’t. Lily Allen did an interview on video tape, for both Observer Music Monthly, and Paper Magazine during a photo shoot, and refused to be interviewed for anything that would be written down, Writers are only stealing, quotes from each other that were made up to begin with!

  • I agree with her… kind of. However I definitely distance myself from cocaine, because I think it’s dirty. Makes me think of Grand Theft Auto and hookers. While I think both of those things are just fine and dandy, if I were ever up close to a real life version of GTA or a real life hooker, I’d poop my pants. This is getting off topic. Basically, a healthy choice is to stick to marijuana, but if you must do coke, that you’re prerogative.

    • Marijuana becomes an addiction too.. I choose to be drug free but I know many others whose lives are seriously affected by drugs and alchohol. Although Lily may have a point, making a statement that drugs are okay into the media not only makes her a horrible example, it makes me lose all respect for her.

      • I agree – If a celebrity wants to be seen as a respectable celebrity they probably shouldn’t say anything on the subject, but somehow I just don’t think that’s Lily’s top priority. She seems more like the, “I don’t give a shit,” type. Especially since she’s been drunk in public enough times already.

      • people do not get addicted to marijuana. you may want to smoke it all the time, but you don’t go thru friggin withdrawals when you can’t “get your fix”

and this is from first hand experience, natch

pot is way less harsh than alcohol. i dont smoke anymore, but it’s a lot better for you then getting drunk all the time, or other drugs

      • My dad has an addiction to marijuana hes been smoking since he was 13 . He spent 3000 dollars on it in two months over the summer .
He goes one day or a number of hours without hitting the bong and he’s such a fucking dick . He’s overly controlling and he yells and bitches about everything . He also doesn’t eat when he has no pot . He has no appetite and he hates everything and everyone . I hate it .
But when he’s smoking hes happy and he doesn’t care that I’m a slacker.

It’s funny though . Some people think you can become addicted…They should see my dad…and my cousins .
But my dad smokes it for his back . He did drywall for 30 years and hes all fucked up . But pot is way less harmful than alcohol ,crack or heroin in my opinion .
I think it’s fine here and there. It’d be a hell of a lot cheaper if he’s just grow more than two plants at a time . After they grow , he smokes them in a week .

    • thats all fine and good, but shes not talking about marijuana here. shes talking about being able to maintain a several-times-a-week coke habit.

      • I didn’t say I endorsed it, but I do think it’s a crock of shit that people are told what they can and cannot do in their free time, especially when it’s not harming other people. If they can do it responsibly, then I don’t think it’s fair that they are stereotyped for it, marijuana, to me, is more socially acceptable. I even said coke seems dirty, so I too am affected by people’s judgement on the matter, but I wish I didn’t think that way, because I do not think it’s fair.

  • I choose not to do drugs, but I agree with her. The truth is that there are people who are more susceptible to addiction than others. Some folks can do drugs and never have it develop into this big bad monster. The thing is, you never know where you fall on this spectrum of addiction until you put yourself in a position to become addicted. I really think that being outright honest about drugs with our children, with our peers, and with society in general is the best option. Give people all of the information and you avoid making drugs this forbidden, tempting thing. You also break down some of the stigma attached to addiction and make it easier for people to seek help.

I totally dig Lilly Allen. Her no BS attitude coupled with the fact that she’s not a idiot is super sweet. Plus she sings great and usually looks fab.

  • the brief window of time she sees or interacts with these people on any regular basis is not enough to assess the accomplishments of their drug habits.

seems how everything is true depending how you view it.

  • Hahahaha. I scrolled down really fast and for a minute thought this was a drunken Rihanna.

  • Hah! I know heaps of people that take coke 3 nights a week and then go to work too….as hookers and/or dealers.

  • This is a very common stance among youngsters in Europe, only adults don’t want to hear it. I will never take drugs, but some of my housemates take them and my best friend go to University every single day, work and have normal lives.

    • Please define “normal”. I think if they had normal lives they would not need to be taking drugs in the first place.

  • Just in case any young people read that- Cocaine = FAIL
    Don’t do it!

    Start a Dead Pool Beet!

    #1 Lily Allen
    #2 Amy Winehouse
    etc.

  • Wow. Just wow.

Hey kids, go out and take loads of drugs because you are potentially one of the ones that can handle it!

Can I just say that when you use drugs you’re not only affecting yourself. Just because you think you can do coke 5 times a day and still function doesn’t mean you’re not a druggie who is a step away from overdose.

I bet Amy Winehouse thinks she’s perfectly able to cope with her addictions as well.

  • Winehouse is clearly a person with an addictive personality; I think this die to her eating disorders and self harming practises, of which she herself has spoken about. It is however, her own life and she is finically independent so it’s up to her how she conducts her life.

Allen is from a showbiz privileged background and is most likely correct in her assumptions however; as drugs are illegal and cannot be taxed no one in authority wants to hear this. Tackling the drug barons would be too time consuming and dangerous anyway for the fuzz.

Alcohol and cigarettes are very dangerous to the body and it is unlikely they would be legalized if just discovered today. America tried prohibition in the 20’s and no one listened, and now booze is [thankfully] legal!

I wonder if she was referring to Joplin since he is her new squeeze, I imagine the arty world is a squeaky clean place, where morals and sobrarity rule in ways in a way that makes the music business look naugty!

Drugs are illegal as the goverments cannot tax them, and therefore cannot profit from their sale. Ergo there is no one unbiased body regulating their contect and ensuring they are clean and not cut with nasties like, for instance washing powder or dirt. Yuck…

Allen’s music seems to be getting worse though, her new single is nothing compared to her earlier work. Boooo :(

    • And what the ”HELL”” makes anybody think, Lily Allen had ”ANYTHING’ to do with this stupid quote! You didn’t hear her actually say it! It’s a matter of your own stupid selective way of thinking. And then what happens? Lily Allen will release a statement, saying that she does ”not condone drug use, and people won’t pay attention because it’s not controversial. All of you sit on your asses, waiting for a train wreck, and don’t pay attention to what people actually say. She’s not stumbling out of bars, and the writer’s are still making her out to be something she isn’t. Lily Allen currently holds the #1 single in the U.K. she has talent!

  • “I imagine the arty world is a squeaky clean place, where morals and sobrarity rule in ways in a way that makes the music business look naugty!”

    i take it you’re joking…

  • ok….. although i DO agree with her, its not exactly something that i would say as a role model. its not the brightest thing to tell kids. i randomly did a decent amount of drugs during my teen years, and was never addicted to anything. i was able to “responsibly” do drugs, but knew others who fell into addictions.

this kind of attitude isn’t the best to be encouraging. just because SOME people don’t become addicted shouldn’t be talked up that much… in my opinion. it might tell others “hey you are strong! you wouldn’t get addicted! some people don’t!” you know?

  • I know tons of people that do coke and herion all the time! And they have normal lives and stuff! And then they get endocarditis and come to the hospital and need months of hardcore antibiotics and usually open heart surgery! Fabulous!

  • Yeah I had a friend who did coke and heroin 3 times a week, and she totally had a normal life. Until she overdosed and died. Oh well, I guess she was just “bad at taking drugs”.
    STFU, lily.

  • i thought after all the drug taking she’s done she’d think more sensibly about the matter. kinda dissapointed in her really.

  • Lily Allen is a role model for thousands of young children, she shouldn’t be saying this! It’s disgusting

    • Ditto! I used to think she was really cool until al one point SHE JUST COULDN’T SHUT HER MOUTH. And stupid comment after stupid comment started falling out of her mouth.

  • It’s so funny how the majority of people act as if they are saintly and have never done anything wrong in their whole life!

I don’t really have an opinion on if I like or dislike L Allen, however, to a point I can see where she was coming from. Many people who I know took drugs while growing up and at Uni. These included weed, coke pills etc. The majority of these people are now settled and have good jobs. I for one smoked weed for years and bring in nearly treble the average wage for my age evry month. The remainder who aren’t settled and are not in a good job probably wouldn’t be anyway if you look at it all in a statistical way.

I think what she is trying to say is that all these people who sensationalise the fact that someone is smoking a joint should chill out a bit. IMO coffee and definately alcohol are far more harmful that weed.

Probably the people who are making the most of this are the generation who got mashed in the 60’s or who were from the 70’s and pi$$ed off they missed the 60’s.

  • she looks like hillary duff here. old hillary duff. like.. lizzie maguire hillary duff. with black hair. anyways.

she IS right. there ARE some people who can use it occaisionally and be cool with it.

trouble is, doing the occiasional thing often enough leads to the heavy addiction.

and some people are bad at taking drugs. they’re the types with addictive personalities.

as a role model to the public where your words are out there like that? grossly irresponsible.

  • People, please stop calling celebrities of any kind role models! Please! Not one single celebrity (actor, singer, whatever) or politician is my role model. Never have been, never will be.

    • Actually, sadly, celebrities are sometimes role models, except maybe to those of us over the age of 18 and/or with an IQ of 60 or above. For all of the others people who don’t fall under these two categories, I believe that Lily Allen (and anybody else who’s in the limelight and whose talents are admired by many) has a moral obligation to watch what she says. I’m a huge advocate of personal responsibility and of free speech. She has right to say whatever she wants, and anybody who decides to experiment with drugs and then proceeds to become addicted to them should be held accountable for their own fate. However, the last thing the world needs is somebody whose fan base I’d imagine is made up largely of a younger audience telling them in so many words that it’s okay to do cocaine. Hopefully, you’re right, though, and nobody is paying much heed to her dumb-assed tongue. Still, if I was her publicist, I’d kick her ass.

      • I’m with Loco on this one. Rational, reasonable, responsible, mature people don’t look up to celebrities/athletes as role models. How many 12 year olds are rational, reasonable, responsible or mature enough that the phrase “for their age” isn’t tacked on to the adjective? Not many. I remember being 16. I also remember wanting to be like Jerry Rice. Not saying my history is squeaky clean, but that the youth that makes up the majority of the fan base for performers like Lily Allen probably shouldn’t be told they can do whatever, because they will, and are so woefully inexperienced that they’re likely the line, and cause themselves or others serious harm.

      • Um, part of that last line there should read “so woefully inexperienced that they’re likely to cross the line, and cause themselves or others serious harm.”

  • I wouldn’t rely on ‘The Sun’ as a source of accurate information, they’re a sensationalist paper and twist words all the time to create a hype. Besides “a great deal of the U.K.” are not pissed off about this, most of us don’t care what Lily Allen does in her spare time.

    • While I agree that the tabloids are crap, I have to say, this is not what Lily Allen does in her spare time, or at least all indications point in that direction, there was no interview in word magazine. The quotes are trash that they made up! She has released a statement saying she does not support drug use, or use drugs herself!

  • Drugs are not cool! I was a fan of Lilly Allen, but now I know about her drug abuse, not no more!
Yeah, if you have no repsect for yourself. go ahead, take drugs.
Drug users are all sad bar stewards!
