Ridiculous Perfume + Rip Off Bottle=Teeny Boppers Raiding Their Local Hot Topics

First of all, there is a new fragrance coming out that is named Twilight.  Yeah…like the movie.  It’s being released by Hot Topic, so you can expect that it’s some real quality shit.  Secondly, do you think the Twilight perfume people might be getting sued any time soon from Nina Ricci?  May the manufacturer please not say that they were unaware of Nina Ricci’s bottle design.  I don’t even wear perfume and saw the Twilight bottle and thought “Doesn’t some other chick already use an apple bottle?” and proceeded to Google.

  • Hahaha. I love reading blog entries I agree with.
I’m not sure what’s really wrong with Hot Topic, and also I saw the perfume at Border’s, but really.
Hilarious that they should do the exact same bottle, admittedly a tiny bit more red.
It’s appropriate to the books, but they could have easily done a different apple design.

  • My boyfriend bought Nina Ricci’s perfume for me last year because I loved the way it smelled and hardly ever wear purfume…I’m pissed now that mobs of pre-teens in heat will be buying an identical looking product…sigh. I just hope they don’t smell the same as me.

  • Hey what’s that smell???…..I know! It’s million dollar lawsuit with undertones of copyright infringement & pinkslips!!!!

    • THIS. I hope they get their pants sued off.

Unless… OHMYGOD. Does anyone think that Nina Ricci sold the design or something?

      • Nina Ricci did not sell the design. Their legal department is aware of the situtation.

Does anyone think it’s funny, given the draconian attitude about Internet leaks for the last book in the Twilight series and the flurry of cease and desist orders sent out by Little, Brown Inc. threatening legal action due to copyright infringement for even putting up a link to comments about the book before the release date, that the Twilight franchise might be getting sued for copyright infringement? The irony.

For those who aren’t aware, Meyer posted the following on her official site and hr MySpace:

“Speaking of spoilers, I want to ask you guys for a favor. As we saw with Eclipse (not to mention that last Harry Potter book), there is always the potential for copies of the book to be leaked early. My publisher is doing everything they can to prevent this, but there is only so much that can be done. This is the favor: if someone, somewhere, somehow, gets a copy early, I’m asking you to please not post any spoilers on the internet. And if you see something, please don’t spread it around. Breaking Dawn was meant to be experienced in a certain way, and I would hate for someone to get that experience ruined by seeing something online they didn’t want to see. My fans have been super cool about this in the past—last year in particular you guys went above and beyond to protect Eclipse until the release date—and I hope that we’ll have the same positive experience this year.

“If somebody does post a spoiler (and remember there will be a lot of hoaxes out there—do not believe everything you read: Bella gets eaten by a polar bear, anyone?), I’d love your help in getting them taken down. My publisher has set up a special e-mail account, bdcopyrightviolation@hbgusa.com, for fans to alert us to spoilers that appear online. PLEASE only send links to spoilers. E-mails about events, contacting me, etc. will not be returned.”

At least one Live Journal community was shut down for posting links. Several others recieved cease and desist orders. One peron who bought copy of the book that had been sold early at an airport bookstore was threatened with legal action for posting spoilers from the book. Even Fandomwank.com received a cease and desist order for posting commentary and links to site that had links to PDF copies of the book.

        As I said, the irony.

    • i didnt see it at hot topic i saw it it BORDERS book store so that kindve tells you its not going to be quality stuff.

  • Someone save us from ourselves. “Twilight” could quite possibly be the worst thing to happen to teenage America, because even the intelligent people that I know are buying into this franchise and will probably greatly desire this…poison apple perfume. I could take the High School Musical Body Splash put out by Claire’s because, I mean, it’s Claire’s. But this is 10x worse (or better, depending on your POV) because it is actually TRYING to pass as something high-class. By stealing the bottle from someone else, but that make it all the more hilarious/horribly sad.

  • Why does everyone assume that this is a blatant rip-off? How do you know that the manufacturer of Nina Ricci perfume didn’t sell a license to use the design (and maybe even the perfume!) in the Twilight branded product? I mean, isn’t that the more likely case? People here always seem to assume that the LEAST likely situation must be the true one.

    • Ninca Ricci is a high-class, expensive, fashion-conscious brand. They (a) financially don’t need to collaborate with the Twilight franchise and (b) have no reason to tarnish years and years of careful marketing and PR campaigns to establish their current corporate image.

    • Nina Ricci bottle are designed by Lalique. The packaging is part of their marketing, the same way the Coke bottle and stripe is part of their marketing. It’s copyrighted. They have promotional statements about the design of their perfumes’ bottles. Trust me, th least likely situation in this case is that Nina Ricci sold rights to use their packaging.

Also, when I sent them an email, the brief response I received made it clear that Nina Ricci had definitely NOT sold any kind of rights to their packaging.

  • It’s the exact same shit. They couldn’t even add another leaf? It’s like they did it on purpose.

  • hot topic putting out perfume… ew. what does it cost 9.95 a bottle, i don’t even want to know. i agree with tracy, they’re milking it too much, and personally the movie wasn’t that great, if it wasn’t for that cast chosen playing the book characters, i wouldn’t watch. it too me the whole weekend to figure i didn’t like it much. so sad. i hope the next one is much better.

    • the first time i saw it i didnt like it. i thought it was trying to hard and ended up being unintentionally funny, because i laughed the whole entire time. the second time i made myself remove the ideas in my head about what it should be and it was pretty good. not great, but good. ill keep rewatching it mainly for the man candy however.

    • I couldn’t decide whether i liked it or not for a few days either then decided the movie was way too rushed for my liking. It wasn’t the epic love story that the book was. The romance was lost. Also it really pisses me off that whenever a movie adaptation is made of a book they change really small insignificant things. Things that have no reason to be changed. Grrrrrrr…

    • Nope. It’s $48 a bottle. But their glitter lotion/powder/crap that makes you sparkle like a vampire is $9.95.

  • It’s possible that Nina Ricci is in on this for some profit. (I know of nothing in writing on this). Some companies who manufacture name brands, also make comparable items, labels and all for chain stores as well. So long as Nina’s manufacturer is making this (and of course receiving royalties), we may not read about a suit.

  • DKNY makes a yummy perfume in a similar apple bottle too, but the nina ricci bottle is definitely almost exact LOL

  • They’re capitalizing on this ‘Twilight’ franchise like none I’ve ever seen. God, perfume? It even LOOKS tacky, especially with that stupid poster on the box. It’s so. FUCKING. AWKWARD. Maybe I’m feeling this too deeply, but everything about ‘Twilight’ makes me feel like I’ve downed a gallon of bleach.

  • Dude. For me Twilight is the new Spongebob. I rocked Spongebob before it was RIDICULOUSLY popular. Then Poof, insta huge and I don’t care anymore. I love the first couple books but the movie is stupid as sin. And the amount of Merch is mind-numbing. Can I kills you now Summit?

  • you know, with what a cool, sort of sensual object the red apple is, they couldn’t come up with a better bottle…?

  • ickk.
teens are getting so obsessive over that book its sickening.
i mean, people get made fun of because
they’re obsessive over harry potter or pokemon
    or something equally cloying,
and then girls are like wearing twilight tops,
shoes, stickers, and i swear i saw a guy in the mall
    with a twilight tattoo. D:
i think twilight junkies should be made fun of
more than those harry potter lovers.
at least they didnt make a harry potter perfume.
what’s it going to smell like?
    owls?

  • Don’t you think it’s more likely they struck a deal with Nina Ricci? I doubt they would dare copy something like that… If they licensed the bottle design, Nina Ricci gets some extra cash, and Twilight gets their perfect design… Everyone’s happy! I guess we have to wait and see…

    • Nina Ricci didn’t license it. There’s a reason their bottle design is copyrighted — they want to preserve their exclusivity. Part of their marketing is their bottle deigns, which are by Lalique. Their marketing also includes statements about how a perfume is a treasure and should be contained in a work of art.

  • I know there is a lot of Twilight merchandise out there, but it’s nowhere NEAR the craze of High School Musical or even Hannah Montana for god’s sake. I can’t go out to eat without it being somewhere in my face. I used to think those ‘Nsync lip glosses went too far, but they had nothing on these stupid shows/movies.

  • You actually didnt google it. You must be confused. Perez posted the same thing, only surprise, his was posted before yours. you should be fired for that shit.

  • It may be a knock-off but what a cheap looking piece of crap. It looks like dollar store material. What does it smell like? Did they make an attempt for something decent or is it citrusy smelling wolf piss? You know I wouldn’t care so much if it overtook Miley and forced her shit off the shelves. I am so tired of seeing her face on every fucking product known to mankind. If they would just put her face on a roll of Charmin.

  • I think they should just stick with the book because they got one character smoking pot and the other who got a buzz when he wasn’t supposed to and the movie was just retarded and now they made a perfume and are getting sewed for it they should have put at least put fang bites. WHAT IS WRONG WITH TWILIGHT!!!!

  • HAHA! if it’s sold in bookstores you know it has to be some quality shit! I’m pretty sure they have covered every aspect of our lives with twilight merchandise. clothing, underwear, school supplies, bedroom decor, and now perfume. I sort of hope there is a lawsuit they have gone a little too far i think.

  • Word. I would have noticed that too. I’ve been a fan of that bottle even though I dont have the perfume. Lolita Lempeka* uses apples too, guess its the new trend.

  • As a big fan of both Nina and Twilight… I was shocked! I wonder if they smell the same.
Whoever had this brilliant idea should be fired.

  • oh goodness everyone stop getting your panties in a bunch,I’ve seen soo many perfume bottles with almost the same design and shape as others, thats nothing new. Also ones that practically have the same damn name and smell!

  • Wow…just saw the “Twilight” movie and thought it was the sappyest piece of “goodguy vampire/mortal love story” drivel since “gasp” Buffy the Vampire Slayer introduced the character “Angel”. speaking of which, didn’t “Edward” sort of bare a striking resemblence to Angel…the brooding, sullen look, the fucked up haircut and entirely too much makeup. As for the Twilight/Nina Perfume issue? their bottles are “similar” with only minor design variations. If the makers of the Twilight perfume had put a little more effort into NOT making it look exactly like the Nina bottle, it would not be an issue. I don’t think they can honestly use the “not aware” of an existing package excuse, I think they “intentionally” designed it to look like the Nina bottle so they could capitalize on the existing products allure.

  • UM…They are the same. However, the apple is used many times as a design for the book including book cover . They wanted perfume ..hmm..in shape of an apple . All apples look the fricken same dont they? DKNY / Ninna Ricci. I dont care. Enough bloody lawsuits..its boring. In the UK people want this perfume and we can’t get it. Ridiculous. Nina Ricci needs a kick and reality check.
    1) NOBODY is going to mix the perfumes up because of the shape of the bottle.
    2) She has enough money from her perfumes unless they are not selling..hmm..is that why she needs MORE money greedy madame.
    3) Twilight DID buy copyright for the perfume bottle yet Nina ricci claims the same..SOOOOO

Why not sue the people that make the perfume bottle? No , they wouldn’t do that as Twilight has more money..its all down to greed. Nina Ricci did not design the bottle did she? ..Pathetic..get the Twilight Perfume to people that DO want it please. If people dont like it , then ignore the matter..why sweat over something you dont like??!

  • What an idiot you are. You claim you are NOT censorship anyone yet you are! when you don’t allow comments for X-reason, in your case comments that include Republicans, Homophobia, or Daves whatever band that don’t agree with your view you are censorship the right of expreson of others basically you’re violating their free speech to write whatever they want.

Go ahead, ban me from your little blog., is the ONLY thing you have in life, a holding possession to a few bytes in the internet that you can control like a dictatorship at your wish.

  • I’ve smelled the twilight perfume before: Like kitty litter and car cleaner.

Smells awful and the deseign is stolen. Nina Ricci made this design. It’s the same as copying someone’s artwork. It’s like this in artwork: Lots of people draw apples but if it’s obviously the same design then it’s stealing.

YOU CANNOT STEAL SOMEONES DESIGN. IT WAS LOW OF TWILIGHT TO DO THIS.
