Where are you going to be ringing in 2009?  I’m happy to tell you that I’ll be snowed in on a gluten-free bread bender.  But people who actually have lives have some big plans.  Check it out:

Jennifer Anistonis in Los Cabos with John Mayer, Courteney Cox and David Arquette.  Well, John Mayer is staying at a villa located in close proximity to where Jen is staying with the Arquettes.  He totally strikes me like one of those “We don’t need a title” types.  Bleah.

Lindsay Lohan is hanging out with Samantha Ronson at her deejaying gig at Mansion in South Beach.  Sam is feeling more rested since last week’s hospitalization now that she stopped eating at airport kiosks.

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are hosting a party at PURE Nightclub in Vegas.  Technically, she’s Ashlee Simpson-Wentz but I’m preparing for the future when she drops him and the hyphename.

A longer list of New Year’s Eve celeb whereabouts is here and please, Denise Richards made this list?  Like one person in the universe was wondering what she was up to tonight.

Oh, and I just tried the bread and I gotta tell you:  Gluten-free bread is so disgusting.

  • I am spending the evening watching various TV marathons (Law and Order, Monk) plus the 3-fer on TLC (the half-ton teen, man, and woman) with my 87 year-old mom. Don’t hate….

I will down a few Stella Artois’ while I’m at it.

  • Are you allergic to gluten or is it a health choice? I’m about to get an allergy test for gluten and I’m gonna cry if I can’t indulge in spaghetti and meatballs anymore :(

  • That link to People, where the celebs are, shows John Mayer in NYC tonight hosting a New Year’s Eve party at 1 Oak, not in Cabo. It’s down near the bottom of their story.

  • @ amanda: if you are gluten intolerant you can still have pasta. you can get gluten free pasta at whole foods…i believe it is made with amaranth. you can also make flourless cake, or use potato flour or tapioca flour. pies and tarts are easy to make gluten free, just brush the inside with egg white before baking to give them extra strength. i’m not gluten intolerant myself but i am a pastry chef and have worked with some gluten free products. a good website is glutenfreegirl.com or something like it. anyway, good luck.

oh yeah, i’m with beet: gluten free bread is pretty bad.

  • Gluten free would be the worst!
People ask how I cope as a vegan, but it’s totally no biggie. But if I had to go gluten free, I would a blubbering mess ALL the time…!

  • whoever said that gluten-free bread is not disgusting is wrong. it CAN be decent, but its pretty bad like the first 700 times you try to make it. it takes a lot of figgeting with the recipes. if you want recommendations on recipes for bread, i can find some out from my mom, she has been living gluten free for the last 7 years. but i so so so feel your pain. my whole family is allergic to wheat/has celiac disease, and they really suffer. i am most likely allergic but i dont have bad symptoms so i ignore it, because i rather eat pasta than be comfortable and healthy. you win some you lose some.

  • The real problem with gluten-free bread is that it is so dense.

There are good GF substitutes for: pasta (spaghetti, penne, and lasagna), pizza dough mixes, and dense cakes (like carrot cake or brownies)

But if it looks too good to be true (GF bagels, bread, baguettes, brioche, croissants), it probably is…

I found that GF was REALLY hard at first, but got easier over time. It helps that I no longer feel like death every morning.
