Remind Me to Divorce Madonna When I Get a Chance

Hi, guys.

I’m sick today. This is probably related to my decision yesterday to run 3.1 miles in the freezing cold alongside thousands of other germ colonies (read: people). I spent the better part of the morning at the doctor’s office, and I do have to give mad props to my new insurance company, GroupHealth, which costs less than my old COBRA insurance and has been totally awesome and easy to work with and the doctors and techs have been very nice. So just a little tip for anyone in the northwest getting laid off and in need of health insurance. I spent a super duper long time researching health insurance when I moved out here, and I think I made a good decision. But the point of all this is that I might be spending the afternoon sleeping instead of writing much. Don’t worry about me, though. I have my dog here to take care of me. And by “take care of me” I of course mean “lick my face and try to steal my food.”

I will, however, note that Madonna has settled her divorce … for around $80M. The exact amount hasn’t been determined, but Madonna’s publicist says that she’d “assume it’s one of the largest payouts ever in a divorce settlement.” Awesome. Madonna gave Guy all of her British properties and a bunch of cash. “She’s got no interest in remaining here,” said a UK entertainment lawyer. “She’s relocating and moving back to New York. It’s money she’s already paid out — what is she going to do, try to sell the houses in a flagging market?”

For shits and giggles, there’s a fun clip above of Madonna falling on her ass at a show in Rio. The fun starts around 0:35.

  • And that is why I am lucky to live in Canada and not pay a dime for my (government funded) healthcare plan :D

    Booooya

    • Hey kitkat,

Maybe you can tell me the truth from a Canadian perspective. All of the Republicans are screaming about how terrible the Canadian healthcare system really is because of long waits to get into the doctor when you are sick and such.

Do you find there to be many fallbacks to publicly funded healthcare?

      • I’m Canadian too, and truthfully there aren’t that many fallbacks to our healthcare. I guess sometimes the wait might be long, but it’s not unbearably long. I think having our government funded healthcare, (with no premiums in Alberta) is awesome!

You just have a card, and you use it everywhere! It’s like a VISA card haha.

      • Hey Erin!

The Republicans will oppose the Canadian healthcare system because they truly dont want to sponsor so much money into all those states as well as with the booming population of the states.. That will equal billions and billions of dollars just into healthcare alone, which they clearly lack because of the current deficit. The difference is, theyre blaming it on the “horrible healthcare system in Canada” as an example just to sway others into thinking that its not needed and completely negative…. when really thats not the case at all.

The line ups in a REGULAR, WALK IN clinic are not long whatsoever. You usually have 2 or 3 doctors seeing patients in that one clinic. The most Ive had to wait was 30 min, and in my prespective.. Thats not long at all compared to what the states have to wait. Plus, our integrated healthcare system offers a card for all Canadian citizens (that is, if youve lived in Canada for more than 3 years), in Ontario.. (Where I live) they have the OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) and you pretty much use it whenever you go to any doctor. As soon as they get all the memo down, youre good to go for the wait to see the doc, otherwise if you dont have one.. That is what may make you wait UBER long periods of time (as soon as you apply though, it usually comes fast)

        Hope that helped!

      • Also, the only fallbacks that may accompany our healthcare plan is that some services may not be covered under our OHIP.. For example, many massage/acupuncture/chiropractic services arent covered. Certain cosmetic clinics arent covered.

Otherwise in terms of paying through our taxes, its not much of a hassle. You pay whenever you do your taxes in the beginning of the year, and its not a hassle because its all listed when you go to the accountant.

        :-)

      • re:massage/acupuncture/chiropractic

I don’t think these things are often covered under US health insurance anyway… chiropractors sometimes. anything cosmetic pretty much never.

unless you have the best insurance EVER. in that case, I am very jealous.

Such as I am so jealous of Canadian healthcare.

      • Hi Erin,

I am from Spain, and as many European countries, our health system is completely govt funded. It’s awesome – I was very ill some years ago and I got the best treatment. I would never go to private healthcare, ever.

      • Same here (in France!)
It’s free and you get a card, like visa card only for healthcare :P

Looks like only the american healthcare sucks!

  • P.s Madonnas Rio show was in complete RAIN. No wonder she fell on her ass, but she got up in a nice and chilling way, thats how everyone should do it lol

  • seriously, i have never watched a clip of her live, and i’m sorry, but she sucks. i don’t think she’s pretty, she can’t sing, and, let’s face it, she’s like the girl who was the whore in high school and now is just plain fugly.

  • wow this video is saddening. it looked like she was staggering around the stage drunk, and her voice sounds bad. give it up madonna, you are too old to be acting like this.

  • I’m assuming the Canadian and French healthcare system is the idea of universal healthcare; you’d pay 50% of your income in taxes instead of 35-40%. You’d basically be paying for those who can’t afford health coverage. It’s not exactly free, you just pay more in taxes.

  • Wow, I bet Guy Ritchie feels really bad about what he said about her “looking like a Grandma”. I bet he’s sorry for it now.

But seriously, that looks like when my grandma auditioned for the re-make of The Electric Boogaloos… but she broke her hip. However, she turned hers into a backspin instead of just laying there and pulling up her tube socks. So it was cool.

  • wow she really has slowed down a lot. I once thought that a madonna show would be fun even though I hate anything she has made post Evita. Until now. I could get the same performance at the annual Christmas party at my Grandma’s assisted living center.
