See It For Yourself

Here’s the most recent portion of the interview Katie Couric did with Sarah Palin (and John McCain).

  • Oh Lord! Where to begin? Is it the total and utter lack of curiosity about the world outside her Alaskan borders, as evidenced by the fact that she can’t even name one national publication let alone read one of them every once in awhile? Or should we start with the fact that she finds creationism an accepted scientific theory that “ought” to be taught in our schools? Maybe it’s the fact that she thinks being gay is a “choice”? Could it be the fact that she can make a biting and sarcastic remark about her democratic counterpart, Biden, and then act as if we’re all stupid enough to believe her when she tells Katie her remark was respectful toward his experience?
No, you know, in the end it’s really this: the fact that she can’t string more than about 2 or 3 words together that even make sense, let alone form a sentence. Honestly…most of her “sentences” are not only devoid of grammatical subjects, but there are rarely ever verbs to be found that go with them. It’s just mind-boggling that this woman graduated from college with a degree in journalism.

  • I haven’t seen Bidens multiple grilling sessions or uhhh, I mean interviews with Katie Couric.

Katie is such a complete ass to her. She won’t even let her finish a complete thought half the time without cutting in. I understand, clearly most all media is for the Democratic Party, but for Christ’s sake Couric, have some common respect and courtesy for her thoughts and opinions. She could potentially be helping in lead this country, shut the fuck up and let her talk.

  • I am not American so I’m not about to try and tell you who i think you should vote for but man this bitch is annoying! She never answers any question with a straight answer, she brings Alaska up as often as she possibly can, and I just loved how she referred to a 15 year old being raped by her father and becoming pregnant as “circumstances that are less then ideal”

And this is the person who is probably going to become your president, you poor poor bastards!

  • Wow her best friend is a lesbian. You know she had to have experimented with that at some point. Could you imagine the Mother figure of this country that has lesbian tendency’s?

That would just be the Bomb.. she gets in to office and then comes out of the closet. MCcain would just be Drooling when she and her new lover go strolling around the white house.

  • Actually, I find nothing about Sarah Palin funny because she is just too damn scary to me. And you, cazminx, how do you come up with the phrase that she’ll “probably” be our president?

Well, anyway, back to my original thought…I find nothing about her funny, but I was just reading a New York Times article about her debate style and laughed out loud at this:

“… On paper, her sentences would have been difficult to diagram.”

haha… just exactly what I was saying above only funnier!!!!!

  • Watching her speak is beginning to make me cringe the same way I have been for the past 8 years when monkey-boy speaks. I don’t even care so much what’s being said because it’s all BS from both sides but why so annoying?!? The media is not for democrats of against republicans. She’s just happens to be an idiot who has mostly been shielded from the media because this is how she comes across when she speaks. It makes me sad that while we’ve come to a place in time where a woman can be in such a position of pwer in this country, she is mostly everything I think a woman shouldn’t be. She may well ruin the chances for women in the future-even intelligent ones because some people will always make a connection.

  • I know she went to college but she must have skipped English! Nothing she says makes sense and wouldn’t you think she could add “G” to the ends of her words ie; comin’, bring’n, etc. She is just as embarrasing as Bush. She even says nuc-u-lar just like Georgie. Lord help us if she and McSame get into the White House!

  • I can’t stand her. However, the only thing that made any sense was her answer about evolution. It was straightforward and actually pretty logical. Yes, she believes in God, but evolution should be taught. Straight to the point, made sense, and that’s it.

Everything else made me want to slap those wannabe Tina Fey glasses off her face.

  • She’s an idiot. It’s not that the media is biased. It’s that Palin is a moron and no one can answer these questions. People want to do interviews with her because she’s a female–not because she’s a Republican and we want her to be grilled.

  • i’m sure i’ll get reamed for this but i like her. she has her values and she sticks to them without apologizing for them. sure, some of her phrases seem a bit off (ie. less than ideal circumstances) but it was an interview; she didn’t have time to prepare and she was trying to avoid offending people without backtracking and changing her mind.

  • > Katie is such a complete ass to her. She won’t even let her finish a complete thought half the time without cutting in

You know, I am thinking the exact opposite. Katie Couric now seems to be on the McCain payroll full time. Where is the interviews with Biden? Is he getting the same chance for air time? They have edited out the worst of Palin’s stupidity and believe it or not these interviews are made to make her look as good as possible considering she is a drooling idiot.

  • Like her or not, she will be our next VP… Oh yeah and hyatt, you MUST be on DRUGS to even suggest that the media isn’t bias… Its so lucidly clear that the media is trying to break her down…

  • The media are sharks and Palin’s stupidy is the blood in the water. She accepted the nomination, she deserves all the scrutiny she is getting.

  • > Its so lucidly clear that the media is trying to break her down…

Really? Where are the questions about her religious beliefs? Has anyone in the media asked her if she really believes people walked the Earth with dinosaurs? Has the media asked her about how she does not support the “morning after” pill for women who have been raped?

Ask her some real questions and then you can use the typical lie that the media is Liberal. You must be on DRUGS to even suggest that the media isn’t Conservative.

  • Oh Donkey Punch,
Ok I am with you on her religious mambo gumbo… That is ridiculous. I think that she is completely off base with a bunch of social issues. But over all I support her on the fiscal issues. And better yet, the media totally has a liberal bias. Unless you are only watching fox news… CNN and MSNBC. Are you just watching Bill O’Reilly and Hannidy or something?? By the way that is a TOTALLY AWESOME name are you 14 or something??

  • She’s might be a lovely woman, but she’s a terrible choice for a VP. She lies while smiling, and is incapable of a straight answer. In fact, most of her answers are circuitous.

Can she please be replaced by Tina Fey?

  • I think that was a pretty good interview on Palin’s part. Couric has always had a way of cutting people off and making them sound bad. I support a lot of Palin’s views, but think it’s ridiculous that she’s being criticized for being religious, even when she belongs to no particular church. It’s the same thing that happened to Obama with his out-of-hand pastor. And why does her being governor make her less qualified? Bill Richardson, the governor of New Mexico ran for the presidency, and no one criticized him for that! He has about as much experience as her, but she is being criticized because she is a VP candidate. Last time I recall, people were bowing down at Gov. Richardson for a presidential candidate, up until he dropped out of the race. It almost seems like people are harsher on the Repulicans because they’re afraid of what they’ve seen from the Bush administration.
Even though I don’t agree with all her views, I respect her as a person and as a politician.
Personally, I’d rather see her name first on the ticket with McCain underneath her. McCain has sold out time and time again. Palin would get my vote over McCain.

  • Donkey Punch—

So from your obvious first hand, in person experience, you know for a fact that they have filtered out the bad in Palins interviews to make her look as good as possible? I guess Donkey Punch was the film editor for all these interviews and has the real story everyone…

  • Megnolia, how much time does she need to “prepare” for an interview? Did Couric call her up and say, “Hey, Sarah, I know it’s short notice, but can you come down to the studio RIGHT NOW for an interview?”

It’s scary that people are letting her off the hook. She’s not prepared? Exactly!!! Palin has been cramming non-stop since her nomination to shove all this stuff into her brain…because she didn’t know very much to begin with.

Palin is supposed to be on the ball, she’s supposed to know what she’s talking about about, she’s supposed to not be an idiot.

And, I may be unapologetic in my conviction that the earth is flat and apples fall up, but I’d still be an idiot.

  • Hyatt Riot–

Interesting. “People want to do interviews with her because she’s a woman.” That logic must only mean that, Obama is getting interviews left and right with Couric, simply based on the fact that he is black. I’ve seen the interview with Obama and Couric, and Katie can do nothing except smile, ask him about his favorite movies, NOT cut him off when he rambles off five of his favorite flicks, when she only asked for one. All Palin gets is stern looks and being cut off. And you really think the media, or CBS in particular is un-biased. Wake up, please.

  • .anne.:

Along with being governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson:

Spent 14 years as a member of the US House of Representatives
Was the US Ambassador to the UN
Was the US Secretary of Energy
Negotiated one-on-one with Sadam Hussein the release of American hostages in Iraq

So, I can see what you mean about him having “about as much experience” as Sarah Palin.

  • .anne.-
You are right. People are harsher on Republicans because of Bush. He is a Republican. He ran on the Republican ticket and was lauded by Republicans everywhere! This trickle down Reagan economics pushed by Republicans is what we are seeing now doesn’t work. If you mess up for 8 years, most people in the country aren’t going to reward you with another 4. And that’s pretty much the way things are looking. If it weren’t for some subtle racism, Obama would be way ahead (or more ahead than he is now- those polls are looking gooood). And before everyone jumps on me for saying that, I am not referring to Republicans. I am referring to a lot of blue collar dems and indies who are not comfortable voting for a black man.

And Kristin- there are CBS aides who have desribed parts of the interview which have been cut out. Apparently she’s asked to name one major decision by the Supreme Court other than Roe v. Wade and she just sits silent. That has been cut out, I presume to make her look better.

The fact is, John McCain did not vet Sarah Palin, so the media is doing it for him. It’s politics. It’s not sexism or lefty elitist favoritism (do you think the media has been unfair to John McCain? I think they have been quite favorable to him). The country deserves to know who Sarah Palin is and what she stands for. If she is ignorant of government, we should know. If she can’t name a major news publication, we should know. If her views on Pakistan differ with John McCain, we should know. If she thinks living next to Russia is the same as having a foreign policy, we should know. If she wants to force rape victims to have babies, we should know. It’s our right as American citizens.

Also, I don’t believe she’s being criticized for her faith in God. Obama himself is a Christian and Joe Biden is a practicing Catholic. It’s when you mix your religion with politics that you start getting into tricky territory. Sarah Palin can love God as much as she wants, more power to her! But the minute she uses HER interpretation of the Bible to make laws about my uterus or what my kids should learn in a science class, or who my gay friends should love and marry (or enter into a civil union), I stop being so rah rah about it.

  • Hey, Donkey. Here’s where she was asked about the morning after pill. It’s like three entries back on Beet’s blog.

Couric: And so you don’t believe in the morning-after pill?

Palin: … I would like to see fewer and fewer abortions in this world. And again, I haven’t spoken with anyone who disagrees with my position on that.

Couric: I’m sorry, I just want to ask you again. Do you not support or do you condone or condemn the morning-after pill.

Palin: Personally, and this isn’t McCain-Palin policy …

Couric: No, that’s OK, I’m just asking you.

Palin: But personally, I would not choose to participate in that kind of contraception.

  • “ugh” is right….if I have to listen to her gosh darn tootin ya accent for 4 years I will seriously go nuts.

  • seriously, can anyone diagram this sentence:

And there are — those issues, again, like Roe v Wade where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there.

p.s. to those of you who go on and on about how intelligent, great, wonderful (insert any other positive adjective you’d like here) sarah palin is, you’re just showing what your own limitations are. This is a serious matter. This presidential race has widespread consequences – far, far beyond our borders. Her downhome perspective may be cute and heartwarming to some of you, but to those of us who are well-informed, critical and discerning, it is just plain xenophobic, narrow-minded and downright stupid.

  • Kristin – I was thinking the same thing about Honkey Crunch. If you pay attention to all of his (?) posts, you will become aware that he has been everywhere, seen everything, knows everyone and has some uncanny ability to have had all human experiences possible, and for God’s sake….Don’t you dare question his intelligence! One more thing: never forget that no matter what you may disagree with him on, YOU are the “conservative moron”.

  • Snowdevil….

I’m in no way considering myself conservative on every issue, so please obtain some maturity and quit the name calling. Simply put, I don’t think Obama has NEAR enough experience or credibility to be president.

Obama appeals to many Americans, because of his ability to speak well to large audiences, and hype America up with ideas of, “hope,” “change” & “progress.” If all it takes is an individual with excellent communication skills and a teleprompter, I’m going to consider running next term.

  • Kristin – Can you read? Really? Where exactly were YOU referred to as a conservitive? My point was simply that no matter what anyone thinks about anything, if Skunky Lunch does not agree, you are automatically a “conservative moron”. Sorry you missed the point Einstein, must have been over your head.

  • Woahhhhhhhhh….I was going off what you said only and it clearly gives the illusion as if those were your own words. He never titles me as a conservative moron, so that statement wasn’t something I could reference back to him saying. Keep in mind, I don’t know you, don’t know your extent of sarcasm or what tone was being implied when you wrote. Thanks for clearing it all up in such an understanding way, though. You seem like a total sweetheart.

  • From the interviews I’ve observed Governor Palin seems to be the perfect “White House Stanford-Wife”. Governor Palin has the perfect way of agreeing with the majority of what Mc Cain says without interjecting any original thought or her own.
    With that said:
The American people seem to forget, the office of President is ideally run by the People. “We, the People” will need to become more involved in Local, State and Federal Government to make a substantial change in any Executive decision made by one person the People place in office.
    Get Involved.
