Jess made her country performance debut this weekend, opening for Sarah Evans at Country Thunder, and it wasn’t exactly a stunning success.
While some of the crowd cheered, a lot of them booed, and Jess also made the mistake of singing some of her pop hits on the stage. I guess they didn’t like that too much, either.
“She’s an embarrassment to country music,” said one of the concert-goers.
In cuter news, though, Tony Romo accompanied her to the event to cheer her on. As did her dog, Daisy.
Can country music ever learn to embrace Jessica Simpson?

I don’t know – Shania is pretty darned poppy and they like her. Jessica needs more soul, like Patsy Cline. Love that lady.

She is not country and she is not a singer. So, no. She will never be a country singer. Her try at this won’t last too long.
haha i can’t stand watching jessica perform. she does the weirdest facial expressions and always looks like she’s having a seizure. she looks real cute in that picture though, although she could definitely use a visit to the salon… :/

I was at country thunder all 4 days, and a) she only played one of her old songs, and b) her covers were actually really good. To be honest, I think the only reason her performance didn’t do so good with reviews is because she did a lot of slow songs off her new album, and when she talked in between songs she wasn’t too energetic, she just talked about her personal life, or what people think of her. But as for the country music, I think she did alright.

She needs a touch-up, those roots are naasssttyyy! Is that her attempt to seem more “back woods”?

I’m a country music fan, and have been a fan of Simpson, however, I’m not sure if shes ‘country enough’ to be at Country Thunder already. I mean – she just came out with her singles, plus shes a previous pop singer. IMO she should have waited to be at such a respected country event.
Adru, everything she does, says and wears down to the red, white, and blue button down shirt she’s wearing is calculated by Joe Simpson, so yes. Probably. The roots are on purpose.

she is entertaining in a “reality star” way and she would probably have killed on “Donnie and Marie” but her voice is uninteresting and her musical choices are as satisfying as a rice cake.

I think we’ll let her in… at least for a trial run. But she would do well to remember that most country fans aren’t very forgiving if she messes up… Does anyone remember the Dixie Chicks? Didn’t think so… :P
