A Friends Movie At Last?

I have to say, I’m just not super-psyched about this. I didn’t even really watch the last few seasons of Friends, so I don’t have any idea where they’d even pick up, but word on the street is that the box office success of Sex and the City has encouraged the cast of Friends to get together for a movie.

Apparently all the other cast members had been interested for awhile, but Jennifer Aniston was dragging her heels.

“As the biggest star of the Friends franchise, Jennifer can’t help but look at what’s happened with Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex And The City film and be a little jealous,” says a source. “What’s held back a Friends movie so far is that people were worried that Jennifer had simply become too famous to play Rachel again.”

But Jennifer is apparently on board now, and production on the film has been given the green light. If all goes well, it should hit theaters in the next 18 months or so.

What do you guys think?

Good idea or bad idea?

  • I LOVE this show! Watch all the reruns a gazillion times I laugh& get emotional everytime like its the first time I’m watching it. Not all that crazy about a movie.

  • I’ve been waiting for this for four years.. by now, I’ve lost my interest. if they do it, it better be AMAZING.

  • I loved the show. It never failed to make me laugh. A movie could be done, but it would have to have just the right script. I am concerned, however, about the length of time that has past. But, on the other hand, it is in reruns all over the place, so it’s not like people have forgotten about it. I guess you could say I’m of two minds on the subject.

  • the series i loved loved loved
could watch every single episode over and over again
they still crack me up after countless views
as for the movie… can’t possibly imagine it would work

  • I literally screamed when I read this!
Fuck SATC, this is what I’ve been waiting for!
    YEEEESSS PLLLEEEEAAASE!!!

  • It would have a to be a really good script.
The storylines of the series were interwoven in a way that
made even the bad episodes good.
When they showed the fans 10 favourites just before the series ended it turns out my favourite episode is also one that
I dislike other parts of. That is what elevated this TV show.
I don’t really care what happened to Joey , and the series wrapped up loose ends. It sounds like a bad idea.

  • Sorry. Jen can’t carry a movie! Even with a good script and the other friends bringing their “A” game, I’m not sure that this is a good idea.

  • I think its a great idea for the fans… but I’m not one of them. The only person I liked on it was the airbrain Phoebe, cause she seemed to always point out how overly-dramatic the rest of the cast was being.

If they make it, I think Chandler should be the main star, cause at least he can carry a movie pretty well, i.e. The Whole Nine Yards.

  • To be honest, i didn’t watch the last few seasons either, it was on tv for so long it became boring to me..

My husband is gonna be real happy though, he’s got the complete seasons on dvd and shit like that, so im sure he’ll enjoy the movie too.. Im not that interested though..

  • I’m excited about this!! Maybe Jennifer Anniston is realizing she’s not the BIG star she thought she was.

I do hope they put a lot of thought in to the script, and not just throw something together for the sake of making the movie.

  • How come every time the media talks about Aniston they always mention how “jealous” she is? Or some other petty thing?

  • I get so angry when they always make Jen sound like a bad guy in the news no matter what the situation is. Granted I’ve never met the woman, but she seems like a complete sweetheart and I know about 90% of those dumb stories they write about her are complete BS. I wish for once the media could just be honest without dramatizing everything to get better sales.

  • I’m not sure how it would even be remotely the same if there’s not a live studio audience or a laugh track, which doesn’t happen on the big screen. I can’t even imagine it NOT as a sitcom style, so if they do something, it’s gotta be made just right. I would almost rather see a made-for-tv-movie length episode, audience and all.

I would KILL to be in that live studio audience.

  • I know tihs may sound unamerican, but i hated Sex and the City the movie. I had never seen the actual show – but my husband had (hmm) and he said to prepare myself for a new lexicon in which I would then start referring to people as “fren-a-mee”. Intsead what is as a bunch of consumeristic peole who pay WAY to much for a pair of shoes that are guaranteed to result in bunions, ruined knees and a walker.
so, i am sure i will not see the friends show.

i am glad that courtney changed her hair style.

  • The last 3 seasons of friends were total jokes. At least SATC didn’t embarass itself like clearly these greedy ass retired and bored yuppies are going to do.

I have to stop myself from puking when im walking around greek town and keep running into David/Ross with gay boy Billy Dec. Now THIS??

  • And then Jennifer Aniston realized that she’s made millions as a feature film actress, and has released a few acclaimed movies, but this whole beat-Angelina-at-her-own-game thing has been an utter disaster, as Angelina gets better box office, continued Brad affections (and impregnations–probably not a word), an Oscar nod, humanitarian awards, better magazine covers, mother-of-the-year consideration, coed lust, and at some point in the not-too-distant future Nobel consideration (at least on the celebrity under-card).

Hell, Jen might as well do a Friend’s movie. She’s the big dog in that sextet. She’ll earn SJP money and get a Producer’s credit (and associated percentage compensation).

For the non-record, I like John Mayer, but Angie-Brad blows Jen-John out of the water, not that it was ever a competition. Will Joey get to bring the cast of, uh, ‘Joey’ along?

  • bad idea. satc was a cable show without a laugh track. i don’t think this will have the same feel as the show, and will thus, fail.

  • Jennifer Aniston is too big a star to play Rachel again? Umm isn’t that how she became famous in the first place??

I’m not dead impressed with the whole movie idea. Yes the series was good, but making a film of it? It’ll just end up being like an extended episode, just like the SATC “film”.

Maybe they should just leave Friends as a happy memory in people’s minds.

  • SNC is completely wonderful and so is Friends. And if some folk don’t like either of these….then just don’t watch/go/pay whatever. But for those of us who lovelovelove these people, we would watch sequel after sequel after sequel……

  • Too famous? If by ‘biggest star’ they mean ‘most pathetic d-bag’ then fine. But seriously… what exactly has Jennifer had to do since the show ended? Sit on the beach all day, bitch about what a raw deal she’s gotten, and lose half of her fan base? Yeesh.

  • yes that would be great! i love friends and have all the dvd’s.

i would like to see what hapend with chandler and monica and off course ross his final wedding with rachel.

p.s.cut the crap about jennifer she does great in her life!
