Today's Evil Beet Gossip

So I Watched Georgia Rule Tonight

It was on HBO, for free, and I just couldn’t resist the lure of watching Lindsay Lohan play … well … Lindsay Lohan.

The first half hour is basically unwatchable, and after that it gets a little bit better, but in general it’s by no means a tour de force, as many critics before me have pointed out.

However, I highly recommend watching the scene above, where Lindsay’s character gives a blow job to a Mormon virgin. It’s definitely the best part of the whole movie.

Also, the guy who plays her love interest — and the blow job recipient — Garrett Hedlund, is really quite a hottie. Not to brag, but he totally reminds me of this guy I used to date back in LA who was a total hottie and a total sweetheart. Watching Garrett made me really miss that guy, and I want to see more of him. In good movies. With fewer shirts on.

  • Couldn’t decide if I loved this movie or hated it. After watching it I kind of scratched my head and wondered what I had just seen, a drama or a comedy. Lindsay isn’t horrible in this role and it’s got a good supporting cast but everyone just seemed lost as to how their characters should be played. By the time you find out that Rachel really was sexually molested she has done so much to make you dislike her that it’s difficult to work up much sympathy. The biggest disappointment in this movie was Jane Fonda. She basically phoned in a part which had the potential to be a great piece of acting. With a different director this could have been a real gem.

  • Sooo…um, was that guy in the picture in the new years post you linked supposed to look like the one in this movie? Nah, not really.

  • I was expecting some Venus Fly Trap looking thing to come snapping out of those stems.

  • I totally just watched this on HBO for free the other day too, and I completely agree. It’s not nearly as bad as everyone claimed it to be.

  • I’ve never seen this movie, not even heard that much about it, but I find myself in the difficult and awkward position of defending Lohan’s acting in this scene.

Even before OkieDokie mentioned that her character has been sexually molested, I knew that was true from the way her character was behaving on the boat. That wasn’t pleasure on her face – she seemed ready to cry while he was touching her, and was obviously acting out sexually when she was intent on initiating sexual activity with the boy.

Say what you will about her acting in general and in this movie in particular, but I thought it was pretty good that she was able to communicate all that information, to me at least, in that one scene.

Okay, whew, I am done defending La Lohan for the forseeable future.

  • BCPR – you are so right. Lo is never going to be a great screen actress, but that scene wasn’t too bad and I thought she really conveyed her characters’ uncomfortable feelings about sex.

  • Oh my God, I just died a little on the inside. Oh. My. God.

She’s still a billion times better than Scarlett, though.

  • Would have been perfect if a big crab claw came out and bit his fingers off. It probably happens all the time just not on film..

  • If you need someone to play a drunk oversexed young girl Lindsay is your actress.

  • Georgia Rule was an insult to truly sexually abused young women. It was offensive.

It was a sitcom about sexual abuse and Gary Marshall should be ashamed.

  • 1. I too wathced this movie on HBO for free on Saturday (recuperation day from Firday night).

    2. I whole first part sucked, then it got good with the step dad and all.

    3. Everything was all wrong concerning the mormon faith. Someone musta pulled the mormon idea out of thier ass as they were on set w/out researching it at all. Mormons cant love non mormons. Fact.

    kudos….

  • I fucking loved this movie and its probably my favorite movie of all time. i thought it had amazing actors and a great plot.i watch it over and over again and lindsay is one of my favorite actors and she did an amazing job in this movie.

  • Ok… First of all you people know nothing about Mormons. I was once a member of that church and live in the Mormon capitol, salt lake city Utah. I know many Mormon boys with long hair and they can fall in love with whoever the hell you want to. Love is not restricted.
