Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Did You Guys See Cloverfield?

I just watched it on Pay-Per-View.

At home, with my dog. Also, I made myself Sloppy Joes tonight. And then ate them alone. Because that is the pathetic existence that I lead. They were DAMN good Sloppy Joes, too. I read somewhere to put Pepsi in the mix, so I did, and it was phenomenal. And it was just so sad, because the Sloppy Joes were so good, and I had no one to share them with. No one to be like, “Damn, you made really good Sloppy Joes!” I’m resorting to telling you guys, so that someone will be proud of me. Please be proud of me for my yummy Sloppy Joes.

Anyway, I can’t decide whether or not I liked the movie. I hate when I can’t decide whether or not I like a movie. And the last thing I need tonight is one more thing to be depressed about.

Can you guys please tell me whether or not I liked Cloverfield?

  • You liked Cloverfield. It’s an enjoyable movie.

And I’m vegetarian, so the sloppy joes probably weren’t all that great.

  • You kno wi didnt like it that much the camera angles made me kind of sick and i hate spending 8 bucks to feel like shit. if you ever make it to tri cities in your journeys you should come visit i would love to have some of those sloppy joes.

  • You hated Cloverfield. You could see what they were trying to do, but overall, the movie fucking exasperated you.

    Your Joes sound yummy.

  • Oh and I watched “The Orphanage” tonight and “The Host” last night. Both were well done foreign films, the first a horror and the second about a creature attacking a Korean city – perhaps a more worthy “Cloverfield”-type film.

  • You did like Cloverfield, it was a bit different then normal, a little depressing, maybe more then a little, but you liked it.

P.S. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about your sloppy joes, i could almost taste them by the sheer excitement you described them with

  • you liked Cloverfield but thought you wouldn`t cos of the shakey camerawork.Tomorrow you`ll think about it some more and like it more!
    What are ‘sloppy joes’ ??
We down under know not !! (and if we did we may have another name for it/them )

  • It was weird, but enjoyable. You loved the scene when they’re climbing building from building and then were liek ‘OHSHITMONSTERHIDE’

  • I loved Cloverfield. I found it to be a very unique perspective in a VERY worn out genre. Taking all the focus off the monster and more on the lives it affected made it that much more… real? I donno, but I loved it.

  • Why the sadness? Just get in touch with Jesus Christ. Ask him to teach you his ways. Loneliness is a terrible thing. I used to cry at night until falling sleep. I got in touch with Him, told him “since I seem to be unable to find what I need to be happy, I guess I’ll just try you and see if you can find me happiness (I didn’t have anything to lose anyway!), so take control of my life”. And I don’t know how He did it, but I married a wonderful woman (I think Jesus made her somewhat blind because she loves me in spite of who I am!)
Anyway… you seem to be a wonderful gal. I tell you I really enjoy you blog!

  • of course you did
    i havent actually seen it
but it looks really good so i say you like it :)

and you make me really sad, i’d come over and watch with you!

  • lol @just a friend,my god made your god.
    i haven’t see cloverfield.
    Question,what is a Sloppy Joes?

EDIT:I see..well,good luck with your diabetes!!

(i asked b/c im from México)

  • I hated Cloverfield and so do you. The guy holding the cam was so annoying and he would open his mouth at the most inappropriate times and say the dumbest shit ever. That movie was suck a waste of my time, I would’ve rather given myself a bikini wax.

  • If you leave in/or frequently visit NYC, you loved it. There is nothing scarier than the thought of being stuck in a dark subway tunnel (although we always assumed the mole people would get us, not giant flea/crabby hybrid thingamabobs). You were glad when the annoying camera got it though.
If you dont know NYC, then you thought “Meh”.
If you were in NYC on 9/11, you are probably still having flashbacks. I thought it was a lot better than most of the horror/thriller out there. Also loved the Host. The Orphanage let me “meh”.

Sloppy joes are kinda like taco meat/ground beef with BBQish sauce on a roll. Sloppy because they are messy to eat. And they ROCK!

  • you hated Cloverfield. It was a waste of time, nothing new, nothing good. However – the sloppy joe’s rocked I am sure! I need to find the recipe and I will tell everyone that Evil Beet put me on to them!

  • I loved cloverfield and respect JJ Abrams for taking a chance on this movie. It was scary as hell and as far as the shaky handheld camera goes….it’s supposed to feel like it was shot by a regular person who happened to catch the debacle going down in NYC.

    PS…i LOVE sloppy joes!!

  • You HATED Cloverfield, just like I hated Cloverfield. You hated the jerky-ass camera angles and the pathetic excuse for a “plot” that failed to make you give one iota of a flying shit about a bunch of generic, flat characters.

Sorry, but Cloverfield is probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen.

  • I dont understand… How are we supposed to know if you liked it or not? You were one of those weird girls in school who were always doing strange things to get peoples’ attention to make up for your awkward body…weren’t you?

  • You hated Cloverfield. Everyone was stupid – “lets walk around all night in babydoll gown and heels – I’m sure to live”, the story line wasn’t that much of a chance – read Stephen King, he tells the peoples sides all the time.

You should add your sloppy joe recipe! Yum -I’ll bet they were the best ever.

  • You were impressed with Cloverleaf, but the Jesus freak ‘Just A Friend’ who is scamming on you by offering advice in an innocent sounding email, then following up by trying to worm his way into your apartment to watch a movie you’ve ALREADY seen, which is a somewhat inappropriate offer from a married guy? Him, not so much.

  • Truly. You HATED Cloverfield. Started out OK, but went downhill. Accidently picked up the Spanish version of Orphanage, so was busy reading and not really watching, and it kinda sucked anyway. We called Sloppy Joes “Taverns” where I grew up, I’m thinking because of the type of buns they came in. Anyway, I have family in the Seattle area, but you wouldn’t like them, so I won’t share. :-) Join a bowling league, usually fun peoples whose motto is “We’re here for the beer”. Cheer up.

  • I loathed it. I fast forwarded some parts because I was so annoyed at how silly it was and I almost never do that. It was awful.

  • Mmmm.. haven’t had Sloppy Joes in forever! I’m gonna make ’em for dinner tonight!

  • i hate the fact that JJ Abrams can get away with anything he wants and no one questions him. Sure, dont explain where the monster came from. Sure dont tell us is the monster died at the end. Sure, tie it in with all your other franchizes. And please push your marketing tactics on us 8 months before the movie in every medium known to man.

I am a LOST fan. But I almost over JJ Abrams half ass attempts of being creative.

BTW, todays is national donuts day. Happy National Donut Day to all!!!!

  • Maybe we can get some footage of Leo watching and then reviewing the movie (followed of course by a late night snack and a bowel movement in the park).

  • I can’t help with Cloverfield–never saw it. But I know what you mean about having no one to share the great Sloppy Joes with. On the other hand, though, remember that when you’re single, you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want. And if you don’t like it or get bored with it, you can throw it away halfway through. There are lots of lovely things about being married, but I do miss eating Cherry Garcia for dinner.

  • You should have called last night!!! I would have shared the Sloppy Joes and then told you how magnificent they were. ;)

  • What is Cloverfield?

I could totally go for some Sloppy Joes. Maybe that’s what I’ll make for dinner tonight. My husband will think he died and went to heaven.

  • You HATED Cloverfield!! It was awful, it made you nauseous, and it exploited the anxiety caused by 9/11 by showing gratuitious scenes of NYC being utterly destroyed, while attempting to develop a discombobulated, weak, floundering plotline. The acting was on par with pornstars during the non-sex part of the film. Really, really – you hated it.

  • PS to TSS: You’re one of those “I don’t have any friends in real life so i have to say bad things about bloggers that i’ve never met to make myself feel better” people, aren’t you?

  • seriously though – I would like to have a good sloppy joe recipe… and the pepsi sounds intriguing (Yeah I know, my life ain’t too exciting)

  • you despised cloverfield. It made you tired. you hated all the characters. (ALL OF THEM) you fell asleep in the middle and didn’t give a shit to go back to find out what happened. You hoped all the characters died without procreating. you never want to think about it again.

  • Maybe TSS can convince somebody to take his/her virginity this weekend. I’m gonna nexflix Cloverfield and make some sloppy Joes. Thanks for the idea Beet! You rock!

  • mostly you were dissapointed. in the movie and in the fact that you don’t know if you liked it or not. I felt the same way. I didn’t mind the shakiness cos I liked the viewpoint. Usually stuff like that makes me puke but somehow this didn’t.

But did you yell at the screen as much as I did and roll your eyes at the dumb love-story? I loved the creatures though.

  • BTW… try sloppy joes next time with that SMART soy meat. I am in no way a vegitarian but this shit is good. I used it last time I made sloppy Joes and Chili and it was sweet! Ther ewas pretty much no difference except nutrition facts. They also have a seasoned taco meat that is fabulous. I make double decker tacos like you get at taco bell. You just take a flour tortilla use some beans as adhesive for the taco shell and add your fixins.

Dude… you know you want a double decker taco know!

  • I thought Cloverfield was better than I had expected. I was waiting for a Blair Witch Project with a giant monster instead. It was an enjoyable movie, but I do think there were holes in it (i.e, where did the bugs come from? And wouldn’t the city have been more infested as they came from this HUGE monster?) I also was somewhat perplexed why someone would keep filming this ordeal as they keep losing friends. Documentation is one thing, but after a while it seemed somewhat heartless. Then again, without it there would be no movie. Whatever I’m much too critical. Though, I don’t understand how they plan on making a sequel. Return of the monster that they blew up NY for? However, I have a feeling no one will know until the movie releases considering the secrecy of this movie.

FYI: I have never had a good sloppy joe. I would’ve loved to try one! Maybe we can trade recipes! (Yeah I’m that big of a dork)

  • Cloverfield sucked big time. I fast forwarded through most of it. All of that jostling….ew. I couldn’t focus on the movie at all. Very Blair witch in a tired sort of way. Now as for those sloppy joes, thanks to you, I know what I am having for dinner Saturday night!!!
    AND I’ll try adding Pepsi.

By the way beet, nothing wrong with kicking it by yourself, curled up with a dog and watching movies. My pomeranian and I do it all the time, and I truly love it. Do NOT feel like a loser because you are alone. Think of it as dating “yourself”.

  • I had heard that the shakiness of the camera made people sick but since I didn’t see it at the theatre that aspect didn’t bug me at all. I thought it was a good movie and actually enjoyed the characters.

Someone said to read Stephen King to get the character’s viewpoint but I think that is the case with all books – just wanted to say that.

Anyways, the movie had my heart rate up (which any horror flick should do for you) and I liked the how the camera flashed the bits that weren’t recorded over every once and awhile – I liked the perspective it gave me.

But in the end you had sloppy joes and they rock. Think about it this way, the fact that you didn’t have anyone to share with means that there’s more for you!

  • I was moved by your owed-to-Sloppy Joes story (I actually didn’t read the part about Cloverfield). Before I could comment you, I had to read thru everyone else’s comments and feeling on them too. I haven’t heard this much convo on Sloppy Joes since??…ever

  • What’s it about? I haven’t seen it and would like to know since so many on here hated it. It’ll save me the 2hrs of viewing and money.

  • You were a wee-bit bored by the mundane nature of Cloverfield, but thought the notion of it, was original enough.

You shared your sloppy joes with me and I was like- damn girl! Your joes tha shit!

And then our pint-sized dogs played.

  • dude. it was the best movie evaaa (puke) you loved it so much, that you watched it three more times, and would gladly choose watching it a fourth time over meeting lindsay lohan. am i right or what?

  • Regret that I waisted time watching it. The plot was slow. The acting was terrible. The special effects couldn’t even save the movie.

Also, you should celebrate being alone. Wouldn’t you rather be happy alone than in a miserable relationship just to say you have one?

  • Beet, aside from the importance of sloppy joes, shaky camera angles, and the joys of ice cream for supper I thought you should know: I love you. You brighten up my day when I read about you and Leo and the mean funny things you say about celebrities. It makes me smile before I have to haul my ass into the kitchen and do my stinking dishes, or fold laundry and other domestic crap. While you may feel alone sometimes remember, you will always have us, your readers. We are like your little baby beetlets who flock to you for our daily dose of wit and sarcasam and we all love you for it darling. Keep your chin up and before you know it some gorgeous man who loves everything about you, your crazy life and sarcastic sense of humor will come along and sweep you off your feet, you just have to keep reminding yourself you deserve it , and believe it too. It works trust me :)

  • You didn’t like it. You asked at the end, “Is that fucking it? All that hoopla. Not telling the masses the NAME of the movie and for THIS? What a waste of my life.”

  • Saw it at the cinema – it gave me a really bad headache with all the camera angle so I had a sleep while my bf watched it.
