Sex and the City: What Got Cut

Okay, so there are SatC spoilers after the jump, so don’t jump in if you haven’t seen the movie and you don’t want it spoiled.

MSNBC scooped up some interesting tidbits about what was supposed to be in the movie but got cut due to its ridiculous length.

Jump in to find out!

Yes, someone was meant to die: The original script for “Sex” featured the death of one of the show’s characters, but, unlike tabloid speculation, it wasn’t anyone in the main cast. Anne Meara, who played Steve’s mom, was set to pass away in a scene meant to show that even though Steve (David Eigenberg) had cheated on Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), she still cared for him enough after their separation to visit her mother-in-law in the hospital. As for killing off any of his leading ladies, King dismissed the idea noting, “I care too much about each of these characters.”

The original script would have been a much longer movie: A number of characters’ story lines had to be dramatically cut, including one involving Charlotte’s husband, Harry (Evan Handler), and the couple’s 21-year-old nanny who seemingly never wore a bra. Christened “Erin Go Braless” by Samantha (Kim Cattrall), the character was meant to introduce a whole fear in Charlotte (Kristin Davis) about something happening to her (what that was wasn’t revealed). Davis notes, “A couple of the things got cut time-wise. You just feel bad for the guys in our world. They’re troupers about it.”

Mr. Big wasn’t the only flame of Carrie’s to show up in the movie: With the movie “busting at the seams,” King had to cut an “amazing scene” for John Corbett, who played Carrie’s ex-boyfriend Aidan.

but I still want to know more
    hahaha thanks xoxo

  • I think I’m one of the only people in the world to actually not like the movie. I loved the TV series and the film just didn’t do anything for me. Really disappointed.

  • i loved it EXACTLY the way it was, i’m glad they cut that stuff!

ps i hate hate hate all the nanny/husband cheating stuff that they’re constantly throwing into shows and movies now. why doesn’t everyone just hire a woman old enough to be the kid’s grandma and call it a day??

  • @ maari, Carrie does get married in the end. Samantha doesn’t cheat on her boyfriend but breaks up with him and leaves LA to be in NYC. Steve and Miranda go through counseling and patch things up. Char gets pregnant, finally. I liked the movie but like other’s said I liked the series better than the movie but I would still go for the SATC 2 lol.

  • shit, i don’t mind the other stuff really, but i felt like aidan should have showed up even before i read this. but then, i don’t see how it would’ve made the movie better, and carrie and aidan already had their whole run-into-each-other-on-the-street-and-say-you’ll-get-together-but-know-you-won’t thing.
    and also.
big is the only man who exists.
    (aidan who?)
    so there.

  • I LOVED THE MOVIE, BUT I DON’T THINK A SATC 2 IS NOT GOING TO WORK, THERE IS NOTHING ELSE EVERYTHING THAT NEED IT TO HAPPENED, HAPPEN AND WHATS GOING TO BE NEXT CARRIE PREGNANT?? lol!!, FOR THE PPL THAT DIDN’T LIKE THE MOVIE WHAT DID YOU GUYS EXPECT FROM A MOVIE SPECIALLY THAT ONE??

  • Hmm, a movie for gay men and 14 year old girls with over-active imaginations. Is it Disney?
