Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Congrats to Kristi Yamaguchi!

After totally blowing the Olympics year after year, Kristi Yamaguchi finally took home the gold: on Dancing with the Stars.

The figure skater was named the winner of the hit TV show on Tuesday night.

Shit, dude, I don’t understand how she even qualified for this show. She’s a freakin’ figure skater. That’s like being a professional dancer, except ten times harder! Of course she won! What, Adam Corolla was gonna beat her with his triple-axel Britney Spears joke?

I think not.

Congrats, Kristi!

You never know what life has in store, baby …

Update: I’m a moron. Kristi won Olympic gold in 1992. Research is hard and I am lazy. You would be, too, if your job description was “Be mean to pretty people.” Thanks to those of you who pointed out my error, and I still consider it bullshit that she was allowed to compete on this show. Of couse she was going to win. I still maintain that Olympic figure skating is way harder than dancing. Not that I’m a good dancer. But still …

  • Ballroom requires a totally different skill set than ice skating. Other dancers have had far more dance experience and performed worse than Kristi. Hell, Mario is an R&B singer who dances and he wasn’t elegant or whatever in this competition. I think Kristi’s advantage had far more to do with the fact that she was used to training long hours and being perfect than actually being good at dancing.

  • You’re thinking Michelle Kwan, hun, for the blowing year after year. But I totally agree with you that figure skater’s have a clear advantage. Actually, athletes do, because they’re used to the training.

  • this finale was rather anticlimactic because she did so well right from the beginning and all the way through. of course she won.

i would have liked to see cristian with the upset, but i didnt want to see that slut cheryl win again.

    congrats kristi.

  • everyone knew she was going to win because she dances on ice! thats a million times harder..i did ballroom dancing and its hard, but i dont think its as hard as ice skating..she really did have a HUGEEEEE advantage…but oh well what are you gunna do now..i wanted Jason Taylor to win though

  • Well, I love your site since discovering it a few weeks ago…I love your commentary etc., but I have to represent the professional dancers out there. I’m a former professional ballet dancer and while figure skating is very hard, it’s not harder than dancing, just different. I think skating on ice equates with turning on the tips of your toes, right?

Anyway, just had to point that out…sorry to get all serious and shit. :)
