Christine Baranski, Because I Love Her

Here’s Christine doing some promotional work for the movie version of Mamma Mia!, where she plays Tanya.

I looooove Christine Baranski. I fell in love with her when she was on Cybill, as Maryann. You know, Maryann really was the original Will & Grace Karen. Christine Baranski invented the wealthy, alcoholic, functionally insane best friend. And I love her for that. Come to think of it, Cybill was also where I developed my love for Alicia Witt, as Zoey. So how come I never fell in love with Cybill Shepherd? Strange.

Oh, and I have to share this: Now that I live in Seattle, I always check the weather forecast for the next day. In Scottsdale and LA, there’s no sense in checking the weather, because it’s always the same: warm, dry and boring. But in Seattle! Oh, in Seattle you never know what the next day will bring. It’s so exciting! As one friend put it, Seattle weather is a cock-tease. Like, it’ll be bright and sunny one day and then pouring rain the next four days. But I LOVE that! I was chatting with a girl at the MAC counter at Nordstroms yesterday (yes, I know where to find friends in a new city), and it turned out she was from the Phoenix area, too, and we were both talking about how we love that it rains all the time out here. I was like, “I don’t think that happens to anyone who wasn’t raised in Phoenix” and she was like, “Yeah, everyone else thinks I’m crazy.”

Anyway, here’s the weather forecast for tomorrow in Seattle:

My response? All alone, in my apartment, I’m like, “Yippeeeeeeeeee!!!!”

  • God, that sounds dreadful. I’ll stay here in AZ. And will remind you of your excitement when it’s December and you haven’t seen the sun in 5 weeks. But, enjoy for now!!

  • This post makes me miss Seattle and all of NW Washington. :( I miss days upon days of nothing but gray skies and rain.

  • KB….STOP…. you can’t know that feeling until you’ve been in Seattle … I long for the climate of Western WA sometimes….

OK…. Beet, maybe you’re my long lost daughter? I love IT when people appreciate WA. I would never live anywhere else in the world. And I love it more when people love Christine Baranski and Cybill. Do you know if Cybill is running in syndication on any channel? I used to watch it twice a day when it was on Lifetime. OMG. That was one of the all time best sitcoms ever and you’re right. Has Cybill come out on DVD yet?
If you ever venture over to Eastern WA let me know….

  • i hope the weather didn’t disappoint you today =). the sunshine was quite a surprise, but quite the tease too, i’m sure. good luck on finding a boyfriend; guys in seattle seem much more introverted and you almost have to be set up to meet anyone.

  • Sounds like Seattle is ‘murrican’ for London! Saturday – dry, sunny, 20 degrees. Sunday – much colder, chucking down rain. Monday – same. Today – cold but sunny again – but for how long?…*sigh*….

“So how come I never fell in love with Cybill Shepherd? ” Dunno, but I was the same! I adored Baranski and Witt, couldn’t stand Cybill. Same with Buffy – I loved most of the characters, but Buffy herself left me cold. SMG’s bitch coming through, perhaps….

  • You need to download the weather app from theweathernetwork.com and keep it in your system tray. I’m in Ottawa and the weather is different every day.

I couldn’t handle the rain though. As someone with curly (read: frizzy) hair, I hate moisture. The week I spent in Vegas was the best hair week of my life. So straight and shiny…… sigh…………

  • I live in the Mediterranean coast in Spain. 300 sunny days per year. I am moving to England in September, I can’t wait to see *actual* rain.

  • I Heart Christine Baranski. She was a much better actess than Cybill, so she made some Hateraide and messed up another good show.

  • Cybill, I mean. Christine kept getting awards and kudos, and Cybill blah, blah, just like Moonlighting.

  • if you really want some, i dont know whats going to happen tomm weather…..move to chicago. might snow tomm. In April.

  • I am from Phoenix, too. I get it…I GET it. I live in San Francisco now and it doesn’t rain as much as I would like, but still, it is more than in Phoenix.

    Also, you’re hilarious!

  • You want rain honey? Move to Ireland where I am. Believe me….when you’ve been here a week, you’ll be screaming to go back home. Looking out the window now, and the rain isnt even taking the time to come down. Its grey and cold, and we’re in the middle of summer. Meh!

  • thanks to syndication, i’ve fallen in love with shows i would have never watched otherwise (CYBILL) as well as enjoy some I always did (Will & Grace). Cybill was fabulous in Moonlighting but Maryann’s character does steal the show in this other series. Christine is very interesting to watch and I fell in love with her in the film Birdcage and would like to see more of her. As for the weather, Seattle sounds like its right up my alley. I don’t mind the rain one bit and think sunny days are overrated.
