Today's Evil Beet Gossip

The Rules Are Changing

Here’s 15-year-old Miley Cyrus, tempting all pedophiles from the upcoming cover of Vanity Fair.

Not to mention the necrophiliacs!

I can go either way on this one. A part of me is like, “What the fuck are they doing sexualizing a 15-year-old girl like that! What kind of message does it send?” And then another part of me thinks it’s positive that young women are being shown they can embrace their sexuality. I mean, when you think about it, this whole thing about having to be 18 before the world can view you sexually is very recent. A couple hundred years ago, girls in this country were married and popping out kids by Miley’s age, and no one thought twice about it. Do we, as a society, have to teach our teenage girls that their sexuality is taboo? Can we rather teach them to embrace it and use it responsibly and wield it powerfully?

Not that this cover implies any of that. It just got me thinking.

I do feel obliged to point out that Miley Cyrus mentioned in one of her YouTube shows that everything she does, she does for Jesus. Talk about sending mixed messages.

  • Ew. She looks like a zombie…

It’s all fine and good for teenagers to be in touch with their sexuality, but Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana is not being marketed to teenagers. Her main audience is in the 8-13 set so when she starts presenting herself like this, what is that telling the tweens? They’re just too young to understand that this is adult behavior and not necessarily how they should be acting/looking/etc.

    Food for thought…

  • technically and theoretically mankind is ready for sex from the time the body is ready for reproduction.
but modern/western civilization made rules to oppose that.
    and why?
to protect the young from the older and more experienced elements of society.
no one cares if a dog mates with his/her offspring.
we have to understand rules as means of protection for your youngsters.

  • Echo above. Being in touch with sexuality is one thing (and good), being a sex object is entirely another thing (not so good when you are 15, famous and on the cover of a magazine aimed at adults). I subscribe to VF and lovelovelove it, the articles are amazing, well written and researched. Plus, she looks recently exhumed.

  • Hey… If christians can lie for Jesus, cheat on taxes for Jesus and murder for Jesus I doubt “whoring yourself for Jesus” is really all that bad. I mean, after all, it’s for da bebbe jeeeebus, so it must be holy, right?

  • Oh yes, I took responsibility very seriously at 15yrs old, I dropped E in moderation. I doubt Miley is really making any of these decisions, I’m sure it’s all just very cool/fun for her. $he’s big business ya know and she has a lot of mouths to feed. Necrophiliacs get a bad rap, they never hurt anyone.

  • The sad thing about this is she’s growing up way to fast, and I think she’s doing it because she knows that she can’t cling to Hannah Montana for the rest of her life, and she doesn’t want to give up the fame.

  • I love ya, Beet, but this “embracing our sexuality” thing at 15 can only be spoken by someone who does not have children yet. I HATE to sound patronizing, but I have to echo the above comments: why do we want our kids to grow up so fast? Once their sexuality is *embraced*, doesn’t their childhood go out the window?

  • So that ‘come fuck me’ look is for Jesus is it…….ya hear that Jesus? Miley Cyrus wants you to fuck her

  • A couple hundred years ago, people were bought and sold and there wasn’t a big push for human rights. That logic doesn’t apply here.

That old saying is true, youth is wasted on the young. A 15-year old should not be in tune with their sexuality. I’m in my 30s now and I know that I knew nothing at 15.

As to her, she’s not cute and won’t grow into her looks. Once this Hannah Montana thing is done, she’s finished.

  • EW… thats supposed to be a “come fuck me” look? i thought it was a “i just dug out of the ground” look

  • wow, its scandalous allright, just like britneys infamous first Rolling Stone cover. Shes following the same path. . .

  • Did Annie Liebovitz take that picture? Annie is an amazing woman and role model, and I can’t fathom why she would want to sexualize Miley, but she is known for taking extremely provocative and controversial pictures (preggo Demi, eg.).

  • Yeah, no. IMHO, this is wrong. This just shows that Daddy and Mommy are kid pimps out for the bank.

  • She is just taking a page from her Dad’s book. Billy Ray was on a TV show called Doc that the Christians loved. The guy would get high with the grips on the show all the time. So much for their Christian poster boy.

  • Maybe she just wants to appeal to older audiences…she did say she has “outgrown the part of hannah montanna”!

  • Oh and youth being wasted on the young? PSHHH only old ppl say that! Not knowing sexuality at 15?? musta been one ugly mofo ;)

  • I agree with the earlier post that said that it might be okay for a woman/girl of 15 to be in touch with their sexuality, but it’s different when you’re a public figure and your target demographic is 8-13 yr. olds. She needs to respect her audience and think about what’s best for them, not just what she wants to do. Sorry, but once you trade in your private life for a public one, you have to be aware of and responsible for the image you project. Obviously she’s not being responsible and her parents are just interested in money, not the consequences for Miley.

  • I strongly agree with Grace…Miley Cyrus is in a position where she is
influencing who knows how many young girls out there, and she needs to
take responsibility in her behavior while in that position. She is constantly
claiming that she’s ‘grown up,’ but honestly, her actions have nothing
to show for it. I mean look at her for goodness’ sake. She’s a 15-year old girl who is just now feeling around for who she really is, and right now she’s probably just infatuated with all of this attention that she has discovered she can get.

  • Amanda, when you get older, you’ll agree.

I’m not ugly but looks have nothing to do with it. A 15 year old is not mature enough to understand her sexuality.

  • i dunno about you guys, but when i pose naked on a magazine cover, it’s TOTALLY for jesus’ benefit.
    like totally.

  • Well, I love Vanity Fair. I defend the magazine a lot to people who think it’s pure fluff, because the political commentary is pretty much incomparable (the only other publication worth a shit — in that area– being The New Yorker) and the celebrity profiles are, for the most part, very stark and illuminating. Even if you don’t care about the famous person, you might read the accompanying text.

Miley Cyrus should be crapping her pants that Vanity Fair wanted to profile her, and she should be doubly proJECTILE crapping her pants that Annie Leibovitz photographed her! What a twit for reneging and backtracking and shit. What a total spoiled brat. Whatevs. It doesn’t shock me or anything.

The overall mood of the picture COULD work with a naturally pretty young woman. The red lips and dark hair are so pretty. Remember how lovely a REALLY young Liz Taylor was? Not creepy, Jon Benet pretty. Just very pretty. Miley Cyrus is not pretty, so the picture fails. She just looks like anemic jailbait who isn’t capable of applying her makeup in a subtle fashion.

I’m sorry, but Miley is fucking fug. I don’t feel bad about saying that, because JAYSUS LARVES HER, big gums n’ all, and she basically just tries to look like an extra from a Whitesnake video. And WTFUCK is up with those uber-slutty green bra pictures?

I WAS NOT FLASHING MY TITTTAAAYS AT THE AGE OF FUCKING FIFTEEN. Twenty-five? Yeah! But NOT fucking FIFFUCKINGTEEN.

  • Wow. Go Miley. As if MTV hasn’t warped the kids of this nation enough. Thanks Billy-Ray for your contribution to society. xoxo

  • Ernestine! I agree 100% … I have subscribed to Vanity Fair for more than 15 years now. Some of the best political commentary I have ever read. Totally underrated and falsely accused of being fluff.
I also agree with Jen from PA….
Beet…I also hate to sound patronizing, but you just can’t know until you are a parent yourself. You DO NOT want your 15 year old being sexualized. My son happens to be 15 … Enough said.
These photos are NOT what I would allow my 15 year old son or daughter to do. Creepy, creepy, creepy….. If she were 20, that might be different…but absolutely not at 15. It just screams “Lolita”….
If I were Billy Ray, I’d be cringing so much I wouldn’t be able to stand upright for the better part of the next century.
And all this “Jesus” crap….oh please. These poor girls have no clue at 15. I thank the Lord, that my dreams of being a singing sensation at that age did not come true. I’d hate to think of the things that would have come out of my mouth at that age about purity and christianity and virginity…. Oh praise the LORd that I am a failure that way.

  • I viwed more her photos at BlackWhiteMingle. c o M — where you can met many real cute babes and single black and white men online

  • Also, a couple hundred years ago, most kids worked instead of going to school and most people were dead before they were 40 (average life expectancy for women was 35 and for men, 37). So people grew up fast because they had to, not because they wanted a huge ego trip and lots of $$$, er, I mean not just to please Jesus.

    That picture is repellent.

  • Well there weren’t exactly any 8-13 year olds even reading Vanity Fair, UNTIL NOW. Good job tabloid media! Bravo!

  • Prancing around is ‘sexy’ poses did not work out well for Jon Benet Ramsey.
Miley watch out for Mom and Dad!

  • I dont know what is wrong with all of you. I see worse nudity on the streets daily; in the malls, on the beach and no one seems to care. If you must shout wolf; do it properly and without bias

  • Where the heck were Mom & Dad during this photo shoot? I have a 15 year old daughter and there is NO WAY I would EVER allow her to pose as such let alone have those pictures put out publicly!!!What the heck is wrong with people these days that they would think that this is appropriate for a 15 year old , whether male or female, to do? As you can tell by some of the responses you have gotten from some of the younger individuals on here they don’t seem to have the self respect nor a very high value of themselves if they feel that this is alright, and that everyone should just “beep” off. WAKE UP ALREADY !!!! Lord helps us ALL.

  • seriously everyone, just leave her alone.
    every other celebrity poses naked
get over the fact that miley did it at 15.

im 15, and yeah i wouldnt do that, but then
again, im not rich, and she probably got like
thousands, even millions, for doing this cover.

i think miley is beautiful, and her music is good.
and everyone just needs to get the hell over
the fact that she posed naked at 15 :]

  • Leave Miley alone!!!!!!!!!!
I waz with Miley when she waz geting foto-grafed and the foto grafer waz forcing her to go toppless, but she didn’t want 2. Stop gossiping about her 4 some PICTURE that she didn’t even want 2 take.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
